Mamma where's your pretty little girl tonight
She's tryin' to run before she can walk
That's right
She's growing up
She's got a young man waiting
She's growing up
She's got a young man waiting

She's wide-eyed
She'll be streetwise
To the lies
And the jive talk
But she'll find true love
And tenderness on the block

Now daddy don't you ask her when
She's comin' home
When she's back don't ask her where
She's been
She's going out
She's got a young man waiting
She's going out
She's got a young man waiting

She'll be okay
Let her have her way
It's a long way
It's a long walk
But she'll find true love
And tenderness on the block
She's gonna find true love
She's gonna find true love
She's gonna find true love
And tenderness on the block

Now I know how much it hurts to see her go
But she's got a mind of her own you know
She's all grown-up
She's got a young man waiting
She's all grown-up
She's got a young man waiting

She was wide-eyed
Now she's streetwise
To the lies
And the jive talk
But she'll find true love
And tenderness on the block

She's gonna find true love

Applause for Shawn ,, but, I'l always love Warren in anything he did.
I think she's going to find true love......more bland repetitive dross from Colvin

Is that the Subdudes backing Shawn? Sound like it to me.

And no comments on this thread for 12 years?!?!?!

The problem stems from a combination of cultural suicide and administrative ineptitude. I suspect that the solution lurks somewhere in the quality of leadership at all levels, the most basic of which is parenting. Oh, uh, you were referring to the genre? My error.
Not one of Warren\'s best and while it is delivered sweetly and purely by Colvin, this song ends up as being merely okay. The backing chorus set my teeth on edge - MOR radio here we go ....
Female singers aren\'t dead.... They just smells funny...
Way too cutesy.
Nice effort, but I\'ll take the Warren Zevon original please. :(

Please play "Set the Prairie on Fire"
great variation on WZ\'s version! Love it! Love it! Love it!
Love that Shawn Colvin.
This song is growing on me. The more I hear of Shawn Colvin, the more I like her. I just upped my rating on this one.
I like Shawn Colvin, but I prefer Warren Z\'s version of this song better. pbm 8^)
aweful! . . . all it needs is the twang and it can be as bad a ache breaky heart.
Ouch! Please stop torturing me! Please stop the lyrics! This sucks dirty bong! I mean the REM song...sorry for double posting...I"m new to this!
Not the best from Shawn Calvin...I prefer her album \"A few small repairs\"...or whatever it\'s called...but she is great live...I still remember her on the Larry Sanders Show and she kicks ass...not her best but still...she is coooooool! :)
It\'s worse than I thought! Who cares if she finds true love! And the backup singers! It makes me want to hurt myself and others.
What\'s with the country? This is crap.
Nothing against Shawn Colvin, but this version can\'t compare to Zevon\'s. His edge is a little tough to match.
This is an OK cover, but I think Zevon\'s original is better.
\"Climb On (A Back That\'s Strong)\" and \"Set the Prairie on Fire\" are also two great songs from this CD.
