Sunny came home to her favorite room
Sunny sat down in the kitchen
She opened a book and a box of tools
Sunny came home with a mission

She says "Days go by, I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire"

Sunny came home with a list of names
She didn't believe in transcendence
And it's time for a few small repairs, she said
Sunny came home with a vengeance

She says "Days go by, I don't know why
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire"

Get the kids and bring a sweater
Dry is good and wind is better
Count the years, you always knew it
Strike a match, go on and do it

Oh, days go by, I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire

Oh, light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own, and she's all right
Sunny came home

Sunny came home
Came home

I would suggest "Riding Shotgun Down the Avalanche" as Shawn's best song....nice live version here.

The lyrics are devastating!

That's a damn fine song, but bringing Alison Krauss on the stage is cheating!

Makes me feel a little happier after a long day.
Every time this song comes up, no matter how weary my poor eyeballs are from a hard day behind the screens, I feel compelled to get on here to defend this song's greatness. So there. It's great. I love it. It has staying power with every listen. Over and out.
This is horrific dreck. Sounds like a song used in advertisements for feminine hygiene products.
I freakin' love this song. Just does things to me.

Can't remember the other one, but I don't think Sonny Came Home is it.

Well done! If those four are not at the top of the bottom, they are close contenders!
But no, Sonny Came Home would not be on the list.
Not my list, anyway.
This is just what I was thinking about the John Hiatt - Wrote it Down and Burned It - song preceding.

If you get the chance to see her live she does a really great job of reinterprering this song. Its easy to forget how dark the subject matter is, and to think it garnered so much airplay and awards. Its kind of cool when a truly subversive song does that.
yawn.

As a fawning fan of SC I'll say this is not one of her best.  Despite that I'm happy that she's had great success with this song.  I prefer to see the artists I love have enough success so that they may continue to make the music I love.    Too much success can spoil an artist, and their art however.
Radio Paradise - Playing the biggest hits from the 80's, 90's and Today!

One of the five worst songs of all time.
Also, saw Shawn Colvin in the late 90's at the MOA in Raleigh, and she was a great show, and a talented artist...
A very good song, made even better for me in that it's a pretty edgy theme, and darkly disturbing in spite of the pop sensibility. Sure it was overplayed in the day, but that doesn't detract from it's goodness. You'll recall that Hey Jude was perhaps a bit overplayed in it's time? (Not that I'm making comparisons here). Thanks Bill for playing such a great, always interesting variety.

I know I lose major cool points for proclaiming this, but I absolutely LOVE this song and crank it up every time.

Only part of that is because it reminds me of sunny days along the coast in Tampa, Florida in the summer of '97.

Wichita Skyline gets some play here, at least it used too. It's my other favorite on there...

No No No!!!! I can get this overplayed nonsense on the local soft rock station. They overplayed it when it first came out and I still haven't recovered.

Why are you listening to radio stations that overplay songs? I agree it can put you off them, but then if you avoid those stations and listen to such songs less often you realise why they were so popular in the first place.
Sorry folks - not a fan of Shawn Colvin.

Although, this is a great, dark and disturbing album cover!! {#Devil_pimp}

Indeed!!

It was definitely overplayed, but it doesn't suck. It's fine. Not great, not horrible. Fine.

Yes. A 5.

Agree - and don't mind several times a day hearing good "radio" songs on RP along with the many other treats here.

Dunno...but she grabs the kids burns the house down and then leaves for some reason. Probably cuz she's nuts.
most excellent

Definitely unknown here and therefore not overplayed. I can enjoy it....

Whatdya want, pop?!?! This is Radio Paradise!
I have friends who swear by her, but I never connected with her. This one did not help that effort.

Put this among the many songs which have sweet music and frightening words.

What was true in 2003 is still true today - this song is unbearable.

Agreed with the local station thing. Hopefully, RP won't overplay it.
