Leaves were falling, just like embers,
In colors red and gold, they set us on fire
Burning just like moonbeams in our eyes.

Somebody said they saw me, swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud, killing the blues.

Now I'm guilty of something ...
I hope you never do
Because there is nothing
Any sadder than losing yourself in love.

Somebody said they saw me, swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud, killing the blues.

And then you've ask me ...just to leave you
To set out on my own
And get what I needed.
You want me to find what I've already had .

Just great.
swoon… SC is amazing
Her voice will likely never warrant anything below an 8 for me.
This might just be my fave version of this oft-covered tune. Her voice is fantastic.
Stops me in my tracks. One of several on RP.
Meh.
very nice, the simple engineering on this is top notch
One of those songs where it gets to the end and I say "[expletive], that was live!?"
+1 to my rating for that
Originally done by Rowland Salley in 2005, BTW, yet I still prefer either Robert Plants or Shawn's version...equally

Did he do this too? I must be too young. I'll take Shawn's version, for that sincere smile.

With Alison Krauss

Great song and really well sung.
Nice cover! But I liked Robert Plant's version better
Reminds me alot of Linda Rondstat
Stunning Vocals ~ 10
Turns out the song was written by Rowland Salley. Interesting!

Feels like she's dialing this one in.......falls flat for me.

Always like Shawn Colvin, but I'll never forget seeing her with her band in in a small club in  Munich about 20 years ago.  We were sitting a table right in front, very intimate.  After about a (very nice but very short) 45 minute set, she leaned over to the bass player and said "Let's play killing the blues and get the hell out of here...".  It was fairly expensive and I was turned off by that comment, like we weren't worth it.  I lost some respect for Shawn that night.

Maybe she or the bass player wasn't feeling well that night.  Try not to assume the worst.  "Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about."

Thanks Bill!
A "good song" that I don't particularly like. The tune doesn't grab me, but I appreciate it's unique construction. It doesn't follow a formula. To me, I've always felt the mark of a good song is when a number of really good artists interpret it all over the map. Ref: John Prine, Allison Krauss, Robert Plant. No two people do it even remotely the same.
Nice.
Could definitely hear more of this.
Not often played based on the 9 total ratings and lone comment.
One of Shawn's best covers.  Please play it asap, Bill.  I can't describe how much I love the passion in SC's performances / her voice & good looks, etc. Keep up the great work Shawn! {#Hearteyes}
