That's a beautiful bit of music there. Everyone in my trailer park is twerking to that one.

Just saw Ms. Colvin in an intimate show with her BFF, Mary Chapin Carpenter.  It felt like hanging out with them in their living room.  Great music and camaraderie.  A lovely evening!
There's a sincerity in Colvin's voice that has always touched me deeply.
Gonna break from the pack and give her a "9."

Thanks, Bill!
She really has better tunes.  I'll be listening.

Pretty Vapid stuff. Makes me appreciate the Miracles more.

An ok cover, but IMO the original has far more feeling and is more engaging. Still, she sings it well.
I think this mashup works pretty well.

56 according to the Wikis.
And an Illinoisian at that!

Wow — I hope Shawn saw your post. She would really appreciate being called a "young artist" I'm sure!  :)

There are no words for how much I do not like this
Nice voice, like the fiddle. Sounds a bit like Juice Newton. More Colvin! {#Clap}
Much prefer Carmel's cover of this.
Yes, there are better Colvin tracks. Several come to mind. Still, her voice is so crisp and clear, never tire of hearing her. 'I Don't Know Why' is classic Colvin.
Oh dear, did you have to follow her with The Pretenders? 'Pretender', indeed.
Surprised this is rated so low.  It is so well done

I love you Shawn from the moment I heard your voice and discvered your talent.

Saddest concert I ever attended - Edmonds, WA.  A stand alone artist that takes you to very sad & lonely places;  and I'm not a lonely person.  You're well aware of where your taking your audience.  My youngest sister saw you in the midwest because she loves you too.  But she told me never again.  Just to emotionally draining.

Did I say I Love You.  Your tallent is incredible.  Your style and grace is appreciated.  It goes directly to an emotional depth that stops you where you are.

If you like "Cry Like an Angel" check out Shawn's first album, "Steady On". It's one of the tracks on this superb album, her first and finest IMHO.

I know this is an ancient post, but it's true. If one were to turn off the lights, burn a couple of scented candles, and listen to "Dead of the Night" from her "Steady-On" album, perhaps things would come more into focus. That CD/album will be one of my mainstays, always.  I love this version, but in my opinion, she should have just left off "Tracks of my Tears" and gone with "Cry Like An Angel."

Hmmm... I like Shawn Colvin, but for a really fine version of tracks of my tears - check out the one by Go West.
Brilliant vocals  worthy of respect from Smokey himself.

Starts off great but the rest is pretty meh.

I would say this is not okay. And I also really prefer Smokey.

Hmmm...interesting arrangement. perfect in a smokey basement club basement gathering accompanied by slelect Single Malt Scotch.

I believe that's an accordion. It sounds alright to me.
Totally on your side. How's the name of that member of The Band? Sounds like him.

Actually, since the question was "can one man take", I believe that excludes straight girls as well.
I concur with some comments, here. I'm a big fan of Colvin. Not this particular recording. But that's only accordian to me. You?
Pretty tasty!!
The lyrics are getting on my nerves...once you get past the "Tracks of my tears", it sounds like one cliche strung after another for the rest of the song. Should have been an instrumental.
This is good....and ah like the mighty organ too, in the musical sense that is...ahh-hum.
I give out many more nines and tens compared to ones and twos, so this song has actually achieved a dubious honor

Oh, and it's an accordion.
Play an accordion. Go to Jail. It's the law. Bumper sticker circa 1986

... and again! oh yea!
oh yea diggin' the cajun/zydico backin' ... go shawn honey!
This is okay - but I *really* prefer Smokey...
voice is a working class joni mitchell. very nice.
Sounds like a David Wilcox Song to me. Quite nice. -Adrian
I like. Not like the other Shawn Colvin I have heard on the over-commercialized, brain-dead mainstream radio. Is this typical of her music?

I think I'll have to triple that. I dunno. I could have sworn I hear a song once or twice and thought, "wow" and saw that it was Shawn Colvin. But this is pretty boring-lame.

Absolute shocker! Why cover a song that should never be covered? She stinks for this...hippy crap...
Hey, that's not fair. This is not a cover of Tracks of My Tears. She just used a tiny bit of it as a lead in. That said, I wish she hadn't. The song would have been better without it.
Shawn Colvin's excellent, but I'm unfamiliar with the version of this song that just played, maybe I haven't listened to this album in a long time, but it seemed different.

I am in Subdudes withdrawl! Heard that they might get back together tho- anyone have any info?
THE SUBDUDES RULE! The Subdudes are back together. At first, they were called the "Dudes" and they did some limited touring. I saw them on two consecutive nights at Cibolo Creek Country Club in San Antonio. There I first heard their new song "Wishin" whcih is destined to become another Subdudes classic. In 2003, they began touring in earnest as the "Subdudes". They came through Texas (Houston, Austin and San Antonio) in Oct. I saw them at Casbeers Tavern in San Antonio. After the show, they spent an hour "hanging out" with the fans. It was great. Steve Amadee said he does play with Shawn Colvin but now he is back with the Subdudes. Check out their web site for tour dates and schedules. https://www.subdudes.com/ The Subdudes will be in Austin in March 2004 for South by Southwest. I WILL BE THERE!

Sounds like none other than The Subdudes as back up band. Steve Amadee is the world ruler of tamborine-as-drumset. (Not so evdent here, but check out The Subdudes "Live At Last" and you'll be convinced!)

If I could sing like Shawn I don't think I would talk to people. (I'd just sing to them)

I agree with your praise of Tracks of My Tears, but I'm not loving her rendition of Smokey's classic.

I agree. This particular track is actually pretty good, but so far it's the only counterpoint to my idea that Shawn Colvin has put up a permanent residence in the zone of mediocrity.

I agree--though really, it's barely nice, esp. compared to the originals. My $.02.

A great last set

Cover Girl isn\'t her best overall disc, but it has some great covers... so if you like this...
