The song has gone almost full circle here, from the 1950s original by Nigerian percussionist Babatunde Olatunji then over to Santanta, and back to Manu Dibango in Cameroon.
Love it!

Solid 8First thought it was an elephant on the cover, then I realized it's a person! Now I see African continent... all relevant.
Hey...is that a Selmer alto around his neck?

I agree. Except... what was dropped on the floor there? A little Madagascar?

Grateful Dead's Scarlet Begonias was the lead-in to "Jingo" this time and it worked great.
In any case, this track can easily stand on its own!

Loving the combo of King Sunny's juju music and Manu's sax. Very tasty indeed.
Interesting. It’s unusual for Radio Paradise to play the same song back-to-back, even if one is a cover the other. Is this the first time?
I'll check in - Cool cover.
Great segue from Santana's original to this track, thank you Bill.

Agree! King Sunny Ade's juju music is fantastic. Juju is hypnotic blend of Yoruba talking drums, pedal steel guitars and synthesizers. There are many layered, simultaneous rhythm's and jams, thus the mesmerizing effect. Nigerians dance all night to juju music. I would highly recommend the "King of Juju" album shown here. RP credits this song to Manu Dibango, but it's on a King Sunny album and the ONLY King Sunny track that RP plays- which I don't understand. Juju music fits right into the RP vibe. King Sunny Ade (along with Fela Kuti) is a talented and influential Nigerian musician, and one of the first African musicians to gain international success. He deserves more airplay here!!
