Brandqvist grew up in the village of Harplinge before continuing his education in Halmstad , Tjörn , and then Gothenburg , where he attended university .

In 2005 , he formed the Emil Brandqvist Orkester with Finnish pianist Tuomas Turunen [ 1 ] . In 2012, they were joined by Swedish bassist Max Thornberg and formed the Emil Brandqvist Trio . Their debut album, Pappas Vardagsrum, was released in 2011 by Frostros Records. Since Breathe Out , their albums have been released by the Hamburg-based label Skip Records.

The trio performs mainly in Germany, Sweden and Finland.
