egads.

all I can think of is the Three Stooges episodes where they are flicking grapes into the open mouth of a pompous opera singer.

justice served.
Such a wonderful melody
A beautiful piece, thank you RP for being so versatile.
I do hold my breath in anticipation of how you're going to get out of it and into the next song.  Finding the right segue takes talent.
It would be great to hear more like this, more often.
Magnifique ! Thank you Bill for bringing this spiritual enchantment to RP listeners.

had  tuberculosis and knew his time was short when he wrote this.

Pergolesi's masterpiece. This piece was written just weeks before he died at the age of 26! Imagine what he might have accomplished if he'd lived longer.

(Bill, this isn't opera! It's considered "sacred" music. The Stabat Mater is a hymn to Mary, set by many Western composers.)

I've been involved in a couple of performances of the work over the years and it has always been a pleasure. Those gorgeous suspensions, oh my! I wish I knew who this lovely performance is by, though! It certainly wasn't Pergolesi himself!
Never heard of this and it's excellent.  Thanks once again RP!
always good music to concentrate by - whether coding or troubleshooting it is always a nice brain shift when these pop up!  Thanks RP!!!
That's a lot of lyrics in Latin for an Instrumental.
Prefer the Floor and Simone version from Epica's Retrospective show, but this is good.
Very nice

Pity me, O Lord, for your munificent bounty is too great and meaty and hastily proffered for mine orifice to absorb in full.

The savory essence of Thy trifold meat patties lashes my tongue and hairy lips but I cannot taste the heavenly Special Sauce.

Could You not cut up this great gift into bite-size chunks ? and Also hold the chocolate shake for me as I am right thirsty?

Cheers.
A big improvement over the usual very common “easy listening” classical fare on RP. Thanks for trying something more edgy.
Hmmm. I like classical but not this. Oh well. LLRP!!
Tremendous song. Bill, keep bringin the mojo, brother!

incomparable to what?

Isn't that a Less McCann tune from 1968 with Eddie Harris?
Wow, stops you right in your tracks.
As one that loves opera, and wouldn't mind hearing the odd piece now and then (i.e. un  bel di, from Madama Butterfly) on RP, this'll do until more folks are are convinced it has a place in an eclectic collection.

I love the Simone Simons and Floor Jansen version done for Epica's anniversary show. Both are massively impressive singers (Floor, likely the most versatile singer living)
on Jabra headphones at first I thought the voices were autotuned then I could hear the harmony.... lovely
Thank you so much for including this beautiful work.  The diversity that is found on RP is incomparable.
It's funny to listen (and see) LP (Laura Pergolizzi) followed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi :)

And, at the same time, weird to see that the latter has so few ratings and no comments too (as of 2022.08.16). It will be probably due to a very recent adding of this (master)piece to RP's playlists.
I love when RP suddenly throw something as utterly beautiful as this in!!
Great piece of art! A solid 9! Keep safe and healthy in these turbulent times!
At first listen, i give a 7 at start! Need to hear this again!
Sublime :)
