So many memories experienced from this epic stand out of VH sonic perfection. I can't deny!

...1985 Junior attending a small high school in WA State, somehow given parent's trust way past curfew to a 24-hour marathon dance 12 miles away to raise funds for the community with most of my classmates along with three other nearby towns worth of students. 
A great setup, right?!
This formative song was played at least once an hour, along with crazy train from Ozzy, for the full epic onslaught of sleep deprivation & elation. The Menlo DJ played the best of the 70's & '80s. 
What a night. 
That perpetually dark dance floor, giving way to dawn. Waning to that eventual morning light playing Van Halen at least once an hour! 
I was in heaven, I admit. 
Making out with a here to unknown perfect kisser. 
You know, in that experimental way, learning each other intimately. Taking place near the end of the dance off with a Senior student from my HS. lol. She was older and into me. Are you kidding?
We were kind of stunned by the connection. Never really talked at all after that consummate day. 
But wow. 
That bond possessing such a fleeting amount of time still haunts me.I think about her every once in awhile and wonder what she's doing these days? 
I hope she's well. 
Perfect memories & great times reflected for years with all of us involved. 
We have a class reunion once a year in August still to this day and it gives me strength, meaning and deep connectivity.

no knock on Sammy but Dave had that charisma and swagger. Also, he never took rock as serious music. It was about fun, getting laid. He said "Rock music isn't so much about  guitars as it is about guys in spandex" (which probably pissed off Eddie)

RUN TO THE TURNTABLE AND SET THE NEEDLE DOWN ON THIS! I can never forget the hot, breathless day in Summer of '78 when my buddy Mike and I got back from the record store, played this, CRANKED, got blown away, and began what would become a daily ritual for a good long while... Mike and I could never get enough of it! Still hits me hard with nostalgia today!

Agreed! Today/future....don't think us listeners will EVER be treated to that kinda talent again! Not taking anything away from today's artists but.....nah...never compare! Truly got the rockers attention, with bands like VH, etc, etc, etc...!

Let's not let Me Wise Magic go unmentioned!! It's actually kinda strange....hearing this on FM, versus hearing it on RP! Perhaps just me? Either way, VH definitely rocked our world!! R.I.P. EVH. And, btw...DLR, to be sure! Sammy is/was good at HIS style....didn'treally mesh with VH's style. IMO, of course!

First time hearing this i was about 11. The paper boy, let's call him Ted, used to come by in the afternoon, continuously blasting this album on a boom box (no ipods or walkmans then folks), stacked on top of his papers. I recall thinking, what type of music is this that I'm hearing?

I can never forget, summer of '78, my friend Mike and I drove our moms crazy playing this record every day. (My dad confessed to quite liking "Jamie's Crying," though...) God, it was HUGE... Foreigner's Double Vision was on the radio, there was The Stones' Some Girls, Joe Walsh had "Life's Been Good," The Cars were smoking hot, Cheap Trick, Talking Heads, too... The Sweet had by then an impressive collection of jamming hits to choose from, and The Who had Who Are You? REO Speedwagon, Foghat, Jerry Rafferty, Steely Dan, Kansas all had major hits on the airwaves... It was a long, hot, ROCK AND ROLL SUMMER... I do feel like THIS kicked it off in the style we became spoiled for...

I am a music snob (of the prog rock variety), but I do love VH.  Usually immature/pointless lyrics, but man, the riff, melody, and energy they delivered is amazing.  While I act all enlightened when I pontificate about King Crimson, I also like to play Eddie loud and rock out.  VH is far better than 99% of the hair bands of the era.

I'm sure I am not the only one that picked up a guitar due to EVH. I am not sure how you could have heard his playing as a young teen and NOT wanted to play like that. The tones and sounds he created were one of a kind. I think back to all the posters and pin-ups I had in my room at the time, and I think he was smiling in every one. He played with such joy and passion. He will be missed.

RIP, Eddie, and thanks for the music and inspiration. You are one of the greatest.

"We get up there and blaze."

Yes indeed, that's exactly what he and they did.. Quite the supernova, too, for the day.  For a time they were brilliance defined.

Thank you for arranging to "go off" in my lifetime there Eddie. You done good.  It's been real. RIP.

Now on to the future.   This same one awaits us all at some point don't it?  So go blaze, folks.  Make some noise and enjoy your life.  It all ends far too soon.
