It was dawn and the kitchen light was still on
I stepped in, found the suicide asleep on the floor
An open mouth screams and makes no sound
Apart from the ring of the tinnitus of silence
You had your ear to the ground
White noise
I don't know if there's breathing or not
Butterflied arms tell me that this one has flown
Blood seems black against the skin of your porcelain back
A still life is the last I will see of you
A painting of a panic attack
He died in his sleep last night
He died in his sleep last night
He died in his sleep last night
He died in his sleep last night
You died in his sleep last night
You died in his sleep last night
You died in his sleep last night
You died in his sleep last night

You died in his sleep last night
Death dreams you don't forget
It's been a while since I dreamed this but
Even now, when asleep, I'll tread with care
Death dreams you don't forget

I wonder if Frightened Rabbit has ever met Modest Mouse?

Speaking of songs where the singer claims to have recently died, how come we don't have any SOHN on here? It seems like a good fit to me. (The Wheel by SOHN (on YouTube))

Love the segue from prelude #1 in C to this ...What an epic fit.

This live version of this song is stunning.

Was a bit insensitive to this band's situation when I wrote that. Did not know the backstory. Typical. Character flaw. But I've since read up on Hutchison's demise. Gawd, it's bleak and it is gothic and it is tragic. In every possible way. And, maybe this speaks to the times and conditions, his last words/thoughts are still out there on Twitter.
You don’t need to go to Twitter. Youtube is devastating.

You should check out the previous three albums too. Midnight Organ Fight definitely deserves top-10 album status.
I just listened to the whole album: Painting of a Panic Attack. Wow! Every.Single.Song.IS.Excellent. For me, anyway. It is eerie and sad, each song is incredibly down, what, I can only guess is the reflection of Scott Hutchinson's state of mind, which sadly now, we know that he was incredibly depressed, taking his life two years after its release. Every song seems to be coming from the depths of pain, and yet so touchingly beautiful. I hear a Snow Patrol influence, or maybe it works the other way. They are Scottish so its the regional Celtic sound I hear.
Bill and Rebecca, I hope you play more from this amazing, moving album.

However, there's a band called We Were Promised Jet Packs. Who knew?! An unexpected bennie of looking at text regarding this I'm Miserable On Some Cold & Damp Rock In The North Sea So FU All kinda song.

Beautiful. Still heartbroken that we have lost Scott.

It’s impossible to put into words what first discovering FR after Scott’s death was like. Youtube imortatilty has both good things and bad things. I will always appreciate RP for introducing them to me.

I disagree. My daughter attended a fiddle camp there at The Haining last summer. The biking is good, a tour of the tweed mill is interesting, and of course when you're bored you can always go to the chippy.
Frightened Rabbit and I both come from the small town of Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. The locals will tell you that "a day out of Selkirk is a wasted day". Personally not so sure about that one?

A cheery little ditty.

Gosh, what genre is this that sounds like children's melodies picked out on your first guitar, overlaid with atmospheric chord effects to make a kind of tragic-sounding "Old McDonald Had a Farm"? Some bands really have little talent and are just irritating when the struggle that must have gone into making up a song and have it go 4 minutes is so glaringly obvious. And then we hear the live version of Sweet Jane, so I guess there is a God.
I don't know what art is supposed to accomplish in it's most essential manifestation, but this song seems to have done it.

So pleased that RP has discovered Frightened Rabbit, been waiting for years for this.
RIP Scott.

Holy God, this is a beautiful ode to death.
Bill - thanks for continuing to play FR.
A good friend of mine told me about these guys. I was living in beautiful Scotland and they not surprisingly had a big following there.
He had tickets to see them in 2018.... Then the singer went missing not long before the show.
So sad 😔
