See this ancient riverbed
See where all the follies are led
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
I was just some tow-head teen
Feeling 'round for fingers to get in between
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
The season rubs me wrong
The summer swells anon
So knock me down, tear me up
But I would bear it all broken just to fill my cup
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
Sweet descend this rabble round
The pretty little patter of a seaport town
Rolling in the water and rolling down the old main drag
All dolled up in gabardine
The lash-flashing Leda of Pier nineteen
Queen of the water and queen of the old main drag
The season rubs me wrong
The summer swells anon
So knock me down, tear me up
But I would bear it all broken just to fill my cup
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
The season rubs me wrong
The summer swells anon
So knock me down, tear me up
But I would bear it all broken just to fill my cup
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
Down by the water and down by the old main drag
Down by the water and down by the old main drag

Funny...normally live versions have more jam than the record, but I'd say the opposite in this case. Maybe speaks to how damn well the studio album is produced.

Get a better reproduction rig.
I found that music I didn't previously appreciate  was much better than  some not so good electronics.
True audiophile  setups don't have to be 10k. 2-3k can get you there.  Start with adac/pre-amp.   then get  speakers with the day, if you have a good shop.  Or active speakers like I did.  Its unfortunate that Airmotiva stopped making them.  So GOOD  !!   They still make passive speakers    Hope you find this posting.

But if the music and singing sucks why bother? This song should be buried in a concrete case under a mall never to be heard from again.

This song is brutal, time to remove from the rotation. Sounds like some drunk high school performance.

Not to put a damper on a fine song but
someone had to follow

Sympathy for the Devil

Yeah, I feel you. It was so noticeable in the Crane Wife live (broadcast on NPR), where he had the amazing Shara Nova singing with him. And then I heard his more Brit-folk tribute album (Ofa Rex?) and the voice grew on me.

Probably sounds like REM since Peter Buck played on the studio version of this song.  Not sure if he was there for the live cut as well . . .
I simply cannot take his singing.

This song reminds me of when I was young  and my Fairy godmother asked me if I wanted a large penis or a long memory....   ..I forget how I responded...

Would probably be better than a 2-3,000 seat theater where their stage presence leaves much to be desired.
More of this please.
This sounds more like the Jayhawks than the Decemberists but not bad.

I think they only play large theaters or arenas these days.
