Light was changing on the water
Where birds above it flown
There was pain in your eyes
So you vanished in the night
Missouri River in the distance
So I lied upon the lawn
I remember walking against the darkness of the beach
Love is like a ghost in the distance, ever-reached
Travel through the night because there is no fear
Alone but right behind until I watched you disappear
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
Just moving with the moon
And the light it shines
And I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Just moving through the dark
Once I had a dream I was falling from the sky
Coming down like running water
Passing by myself alight
In the morning, I would wake to the sound of summer falls
Like little whispers through the signs
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
And I'm looking at the moon
And the light it shines
But I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Oh, it was so full of love!
Come and take my hand, babe
There's a turn in the road that we've been taking
But it'll set you free
Because there's a rhythm in the way that we've been moving
Yeah, there's a darkness over there, but we ain't going
See it through through my eyes
Walk me to the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Love me every night
Drown me in the water
Hold my hand and there's something turning me
See it through my eyes
Love me like no other
And hold my hand and something turns to me
And turns me into you
Lead me through the light
Pull me from the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Just see it through my eyes
Love me like no there
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Turn to me
Into you
It's not bad, it's just... too often for my taste!
I'll agree in the 'not-enough-Sam-Cooke' sentiment...though damn this one still gets me.

You don't deserve this masterpiece, a 11 minute journey through love, memory, distance, space and sensibility.

Are you listening to the same radio station?

Then don’t listen simple as that
Decent. That's the word.

I had to listen twice, not because I didn't know the choon, but because your memory evoked something ... add judging by the votes, not only me ;D

Where? Sleeping?

It's a good thing you didn't fall asleep.
The rhythm section sounds like it's high school kids.
Yeah. It would be a real snoozefest to be this band's drummer. I love their melodies and their guitar hooks though. This tune gets an 8 from moi.
Try listening to some of the other songs on the album (A Deeper Understanding), like In Chains or Up All Night. If you were the drummer, you wouldn't be asleep.

In general, when people refer to "harmonies" in a song, they are referring to the harmonized vocals. I believe Laptopdog was referring to "vocal harmony" or "harmonies", which would require more than one voice singing - and this song does not have. I don't believe he was referring to the broader definition of "harmony", though perhaps the post he was responding to was referring to the "harmonious" arrangement of the song.
I'm not on Prozac and it's not played enough.
Totally resent that. Not on so much as some orange juice & apple butter on toast, but can ALWAYS go... here. Bugger off.
In music, harmony considers the process by which the composition of individual sounds, or superpositions of sounds, is analysed by hearing. Usually, this means simultaneously occurring frequencies, pitches (tones, notes), or chords.[1]
The study of harmony involves chords and their construction and chord progressions and the principles of connection that govern them.[2]
Harmony is often said to refer to the "vertical" aspect of music, as distinguished from melodic line, or the "horizontal" aspect.[3]

Really?! There's only guy singing. Unless maybe you can hear something they recorded in the dog-hearing range?

Fair enough, lizardking, I concur. 11 would be a stretch, but indeed, long live RP!
Well if we all like everything exactly as everyone else does....this world would be boring has hell, right? Still, I ADAMantly rate this one beyond the charts; it's a transformative piece of music for me, for when it found me and how it's entered my consciousness....I guess that's what I like about it....stay cool MrStatenIsle...and LLRP!!
probably cuz they're in the moment, in the groove, in the place they're thinking of...a wonderful place based on how awesome the tune about it is....where's the 11 rating at?
Long Live RP!!

Liquid kazoo-like guitar. Hmmmm.

Glad you liked it! Several other artists use an electric guitar to create a liquid kazoo-like guitar sound. Notably Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame.
It is jaw-dropping amazing the sounds that electric guitars can produce these days. Many of us, count me in too, often believe that sound x is coming from a keyboard synthesizer when the sound is actually coming from an electric guitar 'synthesizer'.
Dreamy, lush.
I dunno.... this one should catch on and garner a bit of a following. Looking forward to the new album.

Yeah... I was thinking who it was that his voice reminds me of. Now I know :)
I get hints of Bryan Adams
No, please no. I love percussion on this album.

Living in Ontario, Canada, I know these transcendent winter/fall driving moments well. For me these occurred with the albums "Deep" by Peter Murphy and "Mind Bomb" by The the.
I love it.
Don't ever stop playing this

This much airplay and a 7.7 rating - clearly RP & its audience are on a divergent track from mine. After 10+ years of listening, that's too bad, it's impossible to contribute when the need to mute is actually increasing!
I wouldn't go that far. Musically, pretty much everything I've heard from these guys sounds pretty generic and almost interchangeable. They at least seem sincere however - especially their lyrics; nothing about Toto ever seemed sincere to me.
Yeah... I was thinking who it was that his voice reminds me of. Now I know :)
I can hear that too, but I think this might actually be a top secret government experiment to determine what would happen if Bob Dylan actually could carry a tune.

Recalling of something important and the telling - to someone - or anyone.
It’s a journey - it’s remarkable and beautiful. Wow, made me think of a lot of places, times, and people that forever sparked my soul.
Follow this - take some time - commit - listen through.
There is a stream of thought -
The evolution of a dream -
A guitar feature that is less a solo and more a human voice from the other side of something.
Pieces of poetry
A falling further into sleep
Remembering

. . . All 11 minutes of it!
No surprise here man. This is a good band.

That's real nice. As it should be. It's like this band was created for our own thoughts and ways.

I know what you mean, but I like that, it's good music you can listen too without it being in your face.
Better still, quit whining and hit the PSD button.
Yes

I'm with you.
