Light was changing on the water
Where birds above it flown
There was pain in your eyes
So you vanished in the night
Missouri River in the distance
So I lied upon the lawn
I remember walking against the darkness of the beach
Love is like a ghost in the distance, ever-reached
Travel through the night because there is no fear
Alone but right behind until I watched you disappear
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
Just moving with the moon
And the light it shines
And I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Just moving through the dark
Once I had a dream I was falling from the sky
Coming down like running water
Passing by myself alight
In the morning, I would wake to the sound of summer falls
Like little whispers through the signs
I'm moving through the dark
Of a long black night
And I'm looking at the moon
And the light it shines
But I'm thinking of a place
And it feels so very real
Oh, it was so full of love!
Come and take my hand, babe
There's a turn in the road that we've been taking
But it'll set you free
Because there's a rhythm in the way that we've been moving
Yeah, there's a darkness over there, but we ain't going
See it through through my eyes
Walk me to the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Love me every night
Drown me in the water
Hold my hand and there's something turning me
See it through my eyes
Love me like no other
And hold my hand and something turns to me
And turns me into you
Lead me through the light
Pull me from the water
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Just see it through my eyes
Love me like no there
Hold my hand and something turns to me
Turns me into you
Turn to me
Into you
Thank goodness for them.

Reminds me of Bob Dylan at times.
Yep - that elusive quality of melodic nasal twang, but with considerably less rasp. And no Nobel Prize....
Love this band, love the imagery, the harmonics. Floating......
it's a floater for sure .. way good .:)
I was on a lonely, dark road in central Michigan last night when this came on the RP app.
Snow swirling hypnotically around the car. Farmhouse lights in the distance. A blinking amber light above an intersection. And this playing loud.

It was transcendent.
Don't know.
This first grew on me and then it lost its magic when I heard it again and again. What's left is the impression that it is a little ... corny?
Yeah, thank god we've still got Little Mix and Olly Murs, eh?
Little Mix get Best British Band awards for a good few years in a row? What the hell??
RP keeps me sane and I, for one, would love to see TWOD live.

I agree!! Still, a good tune!

That explains a lot about the other side of the pond.
yeah we gotta sense of humour, and don't take this kind of shit
gee I'm glad this band hasn't tried to bring their dross over to England.
they'd be laughed out of town

This is no Shoegazing.....this is Stargazing. Put this on at your cottage or trailer, in the summer, on a clear night, with a glow on, float away..........
Yep - this is one of those wistful songs. Compare to Billie Eilish that came immediately before it .............!
gee I'm glad this band hasn't tried to bring their dross over to England.
they'd be laughed out of town
You'll get your opportunity to laugh in early-mid 2022 when they tour Europe and the UK. Personally, I'm jealous as they're not scheduled to play near where I live.
This is truly a very lovely song. I've had years to digest it, and even if I go months without hearing it, it still astounds me. He takes his voice through such plaintive emotion, all the while played out against a range of incredible guitar, and sometimes Dylan-esque stylings emerge that really strike me deeply. There is also such a mastery of sound engineering and sonic atmospheres at work here that I am continually amazed. It's as if it takes my mind out to a moonlit meadow, trips me out to some of my own memories and imaginings, then weaves me back into the present spell of the music again. Bravo!
The sole true classic song in recent years which will stand the test of time like few other songs did (wish you were here for example) - a perfect dramaturgy form its start, through its middle break and fading end, a perfect mood and produced and performed outrageously good
gee I'm glad this band hasn't tried to bring their dross over to England.
they'd be laughed out of town
And, I take it you are the self-designated music critic for all of England. Did Queen Elizabeth die and make you King? I must have missed that news flash.
gee I'm glad this band hasn't tried to bring their dross over to England.
they'd be laughed out of town
Maybe they're not wanted in Doucheland. That's cool.
I'm not sure that I've ever heard a song that quite so perfectly captures the essence of how nostalgia - the bittersweet, melancholic longing that sits somewhere between your stomach and your heart.
Good catch. The song tugs. In a good way.
For me, this kind of nostalgia always speaks to lives well lived. Why regret or miss a place and time in your life if it was not spiritually, psychically rewarding?
Lives well lived.
Thank you RP for introducing this amazing group back in 2014 or thereabouts. I feel so lucky to know of their fine music, and wouldn't have without RP. The best station, streaming or otherwise, ever. You have blessed my days and nights since I first discovered you and helped me through so many tough times. Thank you for being such a beautiful gift!
Very well said!

Ssshhhhhh!!!

What's next...The Hooters? Robert Hazard? Todd Rundgren? I'll just have to wait and see...
It's not bad, it's just... too often for my taste!
I'll agree in the 'not-enough-Sam-Cooke' sentiment...though damn this one still gets me.
LLRP!!

You don't deserve this masterpiece, a 11 minute journey through love, memory, distance, space and sensibility.

Decent. That's the word.

I had to listen twice, not because I didn't know the choon, but because your memory evoked something ... add judging by the votes, not only me ;D

Where? Sleeping?

It's a good thing you didn't fall asleep.
The rhythm section sounds like it's high school kids.
Yeah. It would be a real snoozefest to be this band's drummer. I love their melodies and their guitar hooks though. This tune gets an 8 from moi.
Try listening to some of the other songs on the album (A Deeper Understanding), like In Chains or Up All Night. If you were the drummer, you wouldn't be asleep.

In general, when people refer to "harmonies" in a song, they are referring to the harmonized vocals. I believe Laptopdog was referring to "vocal harmony" or "harmonies", which would require more than one voice singing - and this song does not have. I don't believe he was referring to the broader definition of "harmony", though perhaps the post he was responding to was referring to the "harmonious" arrangement of the song.
I'm not on Prozac and it's not played enough.
Totally resent that. Not on so much as some orange juice & apple butter on toast, but can ALWAYS go... here. Bugger off.
In music, harmony considers the process by which the composition of individual sounds, or superpositions of sounds, is analysed by hearing. Usually, this means simultaneously occurring frequencies, pitches (tones, notes), or chords.[1]
The study of harmony involves chords and their construction and chord progressions and the principles of connection that govern them.[2]
Harmony is often said to refer to the "vertical" aspect of music, as distinguished from melodic line, or the "horizontal" aspect.[3]

Really?! There's only guy singing. Unless maybe you can hear something they recorded in the dog-hearing range?

Fair enough, lizardking, I concur. 11 would be a stretch, but indeed, long live RP!
Well if we all like everything exactly as everyone else does....this world would be boring has hell, right? Still, I ADAMantly rate this one beyond the charts; it's a transformative piece of music for me, for when it found me and how it's entered my consciousness....I guess that's what I like about it....stay cool MrStatenIsle...and LLRP!!
probably cuz they're in the moment, in the groove, in the place they're thinking of...a wonderful place based on how awesome the tune about it is....where's the 11 rating at?
Long Live RP!!

Liquid kazoo-like guitar. Hmmmm.

Glad you liked it! Several other artists use an electric guitar to create a liquid kazoo-like guitar sound. Notably Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame.
It is jaw-dropping amazing the sounds that electric guitars can produce these days. Many of us, count me in too, often believe that sound x is coming from a keyboard synthesizer when the sound is actually coming from an electric guitar 'synthesizer'.
Dreamy, lush.
I dunno.... this one should catch on and garner a bit of a following. Looking forward to the new album.

Yeah... I was thinking who it was that his voice reminds me of. Now I know :)
I get hints of Bryan Adams
No, please no. I love percussion on this album.

Living in Ontario, Canada, I know these transcendent winter/fall driving moments well. For me these occurred with the albums "Deep" by Peter Murphy and "Mind Bomb" by The the.
I love it.
Don't ever stop playing this
