Lock the door
Draw the shades
Close my eyes
I'm miles away

I'll spend the day
In my own way

Count the hours
Mark the days,
Underneath it all
The rising swirling
Of the waves

I'll spend the day
In my own way

All the plans
That were made
Let them die
Let them fade

I'll spend the day
In my own way

Please understand
I'm only human

After all's said and done
Only here a moment and
The moment's gone

I'll spend the day
In my own way

Please understand
I'm only human
At times I fail
At times at fault

Don't break your back
Tryin to carry
Weight of the world
Can't please them all

Lock the door
Draw the shades,
Close my eyes
I'm miles away

I'll spend the day
In my own way
I'll spend the day
In my own way
I'll spend the day
In my own way

Based on the 2 down-votes (to go against 52 up), apparently there is one other person identical to the OP.
MAN!  I was SO certain that this was by a Pink Floyd alumna.

I love his voice and his moody music. Good fit for Covid times.
I saw Ray 2 years ago and i was an 8 listener.
unfortunately this was all he had. Ray has no concert rock in his repertoire and I sleep th
Excellent vocal timbre - mellow and confident, passion and power, acoustic and electric, soft and not so ....

More a Gilmour influence than a Water's one.
This would explain why the entire album works so well!

From the WP entry: "He cited the Talk Talk album Spirit of Eden as stylistically similar to his vision of an unstructured, free-flowing album."
This certainly shares a lot with "Us and Them", but I'm willing to throw in a healthy helping of "Make It with You" by Bread. I like it quite a lot.
  "pink floyd cover"...

Can't stop headbanging ferociously.
Cool tune.
Well I like him...  Yes a Floyd fan too
I'm with the "sounds like Pink Floyd" group.  I like relaxing tunes but this one doesn't do it for me.

damn! that's a burn.  whew.
or...wait.. is that a whiff of delicious sarcasm?
mmmmmm, sarcasm.
One of the best tracks on this amazing album.

No, at least 22 other people have seen fit to bring that up.  So far it's about 16% of all the comments for this song.

15 upvotes.   1 downvote.  Undoubtedly from the OP.  Seems they are regularly the outlier.
something of a David Gilmour / On an Island feel to this.. me likey likey :)
8 to 9, this song keeps getting better with each hearing.
Better suited for Mellow mix...
Such a beautiful tune, and I loooove the guitar.

Bit of Darkside of the Moon going on?
Normally enjoy Ray but this one’s really hard to like.
I saw a blood moon like that off my balcony last night, how fitting.
gorgeous dreamy song - really brings me to a peaceful place and love the twangy/spacey guitar

So love this song.... and I'm not necessarily a RLm fan... but this song stops me cold and reduces the anxiety level by a factor of 5.
Thanks Bill.

Who tf is Richard? The one and only William Goldsmith, amazing song-stringer in Paradise, is not a Dick, if that's what you were trying to say.  I hope you were just confused, and if so, my apologies. and if you weren't stfu.
I've heard this song for years now  and didn't know how good the lyrics were because I never looked them up.   They are a reprieve for faithless dying idealists. {#Boohoo}  How can you not like Ray on this station?   Trouble and Supernova are great albums.
I find this pleasantly Pink Floyd-y

12/28/19- boy, I blurted out that comment without noticing it had already been made. and I see that it has been echoed since.

Still really like this song.

Bill (and Rebecca) turned a LOT of people onto a lot of interesting artists and music.

I am one of them.

Sorry, but this is no Floyd. Possibly an OK track but played far too often on RP. Rating 7, but played as if it was a 10, which makes it a 4. Sorry!

Hmmmm, should I trust your judgement on whether this is played too often, or Bill's?  Decisions, decisions.

Oh.  Actually that was pretty easy.

By the way ... who are you apologizing to?
Ray LaMontagne has a voice that has a way of creeping into my skull and rolling around. I enjoy his texture-ey mellow-dys !

Ray is fantastic. A great guy too!
This is one of my favorite songs of the last couple of years. Luckily, I keep forgetting about it, so that when it comes on Radio Paradise I get to be surprised and enchanted all over again.
Definitely a "concept" album. Lots of trippy Pink-Floydy space blues rock. If you like "In My Own Way," you won't likely be disappointed with the rest of the album. I definitely recommend it!

Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd, smiling
Merciless, the magistrate turns 'round, frowning
and who's the fool who wears the crown
Go down in your own way
gotta bump it up. 7>8 soothing song.

HA!.... I echo the same - this song is cool. And I own a lot of Poe (and Conjure One), Elbow, The National, Editors, Local Natives, the list goes on and on.

This is new to me as well but Ray LaMontagne has one of those recognizable gifted voices.
Just tuned in and, hearing this, wanted to see who it was... I'm going more specifically with David Gilmour than with just general PF... So spot on with the segue Bill.
Had not heard this before, really like it.
By the way which one is Pink?
So very Pink of you, Floyd!
Nicely quiet for designing in 3d at 5:00 a.m. NOT good for staying awake! {#Wink}
{#Tongue-out}Had to look at the playlist to see who this was - different for Ray but still love him.
mellow mood for a Winter Saturday afternoon in the Great White North {#Roflol}
With him doing this raspy breathy whisper schtick, the only thing I think of when he 'sings' "I'll spend the day in my own way" is him in a bubble bath. :-)
Food for my mood.
Smooth as silk.
nicely ambient. early, early morn on a rainy day
mister one day wonder : "be here now" ... way more genius!

ya, the pink Floyd is unavoidable here

Not a huge fan because he's just too laid back, but I did like this cut.
OMG, can he not pick up the pace just a tad? It's a bit of a dirge.
Lovely.  Very talented.  But kinda boring. Musical Seconal.  Next.
Thought it was a lost Pink Floyd track.  And imagine all the absurdity surrounding the lawsuit over just two seconds of something even vaguely similar to Stairway to Heaven?
Nice ethereal, atmospheric arrangement, reminds me a bit of his (or his producers?) reverb master-class called "Be Here Now"...great tone on the guitar parts, kind of Neil Young crunchy but smoother.

Just about every song on the RP playlist has "comments referring to Pink Floyd".  Sometimes it makes sense (like with this tune), other times it seems more like some widespread, delusional, confirmation bias.

Beautiful. Depicted perfectly on iTunes.
One of the most probing singer/songwriters of his generation, Ray LaMontagne achieves a cosmically sublime state on Ouroboros. Lined with imagery that feels drawn from riddle-like dreams, the freely flowing song cycle passes through ethereal jazz folk (“Homecoming”), fuzzily iridescent psychedelia (“While It Still Beats”), and radioactive blues (“Hey, No Pressure”). The tunes are spare, often consisting of just LaMontagne’s raspy whisper laid over standard rock instrumentation. Yet the way producer Jim James wraps them in echo-laden atmosphere and spacey effects lends the music a spellbinding sense of vastness.

Oh god.. not again.
Months of the same song.
Quite like it but...... Please can we move on
The opening chords came on and I think my blood pressure droped 10 pts. Yea, it's Prozac like - but in a really good way.
This is like taking a whole bottle of Dreamy Sleepy Snoozy-snooze. It could be used by cash-strapped surgeons in place of anaesthetic for open heart surgery. It is truly narcolepsy in a song {#Sleep}
