I too am an "old fart" in so many ways but Ray is a breath of fresh air.

I love just about everything I hear on RP, and I appreciate the fact that the Goldsmiths have introduced me to many performers I'd never heard before. But one performer that I just don't get is Ray LaMontagne... and Bill seems to play Ray's music more than any other artist's, on both the Main and Mellow mixes! Please Bill... he's just not that good or original.

I like this, but it's a shadow of the work he produced on his 1st album. That had some outstanding tracks.
This song exudes a radioheadish somnolence. Turn it up, close your eyes, and feel it...

Old fart here. I love all sorts of quiet male singers. Nick Drake, Tom Rush, Paul Simon, Tim Buckley. But there's something about LaMontagne's breathy, whispery, weak stylings that make me want to break things. Too bad (for me, I suppose) because he writes well.

DISAGREE!!! My boys made me listen to a top 40's station is exchange for going to swim team practice and I can guarantee they have a two-hour rotation of every "hit" song!!!

I was on a fourth date with a very sweet woman. We were sitting around her apartment talking and she suggested putting on some music. I put on The Shins, which was great for background but it wasn't very inviting. The next playlist was this album. When this song came on, the entire mood shifted in a very positive way. We both just relaxed and allowed the seduction of his voice to work its magic. You can imagine where all that sensuality led!
One or two tracks on the album are a bit harsh compared to this mood, but I strongly recommend adding this to any intimate playlist.

It's a different chord progression and different overall melody, but there are some similarities to that song and a clear similarity to the Simon & Garfunkel style in this song. Then again, there probably aren't very many contemporary acoustic guitar, singer/songwriters who are not influenced by S&G to some extent - those two guys left a pretty substantial legacy.

Elicits memories of late nights sitting around the bong listening to early "underground" radio stations in the early 1970's, hearing Pink Floyd's DSotM for the first time. "Quicksilver Girl" by the Steve Miller Band also comes to mind. Now if I can only find that stash I hid about ten years ago......

It seems that very little ultimately happens in this track. It's the a repetitive chorus and melody. Mr. LaMontagne does little for me on this or other tracks.
