Moving on the floor now babe you're a bird of paradise
Cherry ice cream smile I suppose it's very nice
With a step to your left and a flick to the right you catch that mirror way out west
You know you're something special and you look like you're the best

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

I've seen you on the beach and I've seen you on TV
Two of a billion stars it means so much to me
Like a birthday or a pretty view
But then I'm sure that you know it's just for you

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

Hey now woo look at that did she nearly run you down
At the end of the drive the lawmen arrive
You make me feel alive, alive alive
I'll take my chance cause luck is on my side or something
I know what you're thinking I tell you something I know what you're thinking

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twists across a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grand
Her name is Rio she don't need to understand
And I might find her if I'm looking like I can
Oh Rio, Rio hear them shout across the land
From mountains in the north down to the Rio Grande
Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do

I Agree!

As a teenager I dismissed DD as 'boy-band' material, so was amazed to read that Zappa alumni Terry Bozzio and Warren Cucurrulo (I think) chose to work with DD at some point.

Hope to hear some of the less overplayed Duran material to see what it was that caught their attention..

Ordinary World would be nice, but it's not even on the playlist.
outstanding musicianship

Of course I had the Patrick Nagel artwork on the wall of my first non-Dorm apartment. Junior year...........the 80s.............good times!

Listen to Save a Prayer, off this same album (Rio).  William and Alanna have it in the RP rotation, interestingly enough.
I've got mixed feelings about Duran Duran. On one hand, they are the emblem of a  commodified hair band. But as this song demonstrates there were actually artists desperate to escape the bondage of popular music.
Thanks !
You know what her name is

yay! Love Duran Duran & I don't care what everyone else says! These guys keep on keepin' on!
Happy Song. Catchy pop, with great hooks. What's not to like?!

Never got this group. Lead singer not good. Except for their much later single, which I can't remember, only that I liked it.
I wanna go sailing!!!
It's all great {#Roflol} - fantastic keyboard work by Nick; lovely guitar and some nice e-bow from Andy; John's bass playing - probably the most under rated in pop; great, solid, exciting drumming from Roger (when most relied on Mr Linn) and Simon's OK too . . . my first pop LP and I still love it. Good value at £4.49 from Rounder Records . . .

Spot on....
This song never gets old. Thanks for playing it!
Fantastic.
Hilarious details from the video shoot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpd34URi-Fs

So that's what he was screaming...
Captain Kirk, all sweaty, overwrought and screaming
{#Lol} {#High-five}

Yeah, one of those tunes that got permanently cooked into the teflon frying pan of 80s FM radio. I doubt any of amount of time will wear out the Overplayed stench of this one—not that it was all that good at the start. But Duran Duran's Wedding album from the mid-90s is quite good...

Great addition to RP! Listen to the rolling bass in the background (almost a tribute to Chris Squire).

Some will say that this song is pop-this-or-that, but this song, and more importantly the whole album, is a very very well written piece of work. Give it a full listen, and you will be impressed.  The Chauffeur should be on RP rotation, very artistic song that is pretty timeless.

Much of their earlier stuff was lyrically straight out of Simon LeBon's notebook of poetry from college, and he was pretty gifted. The rest of them had great musical talent (especially Nick Rhodes' keyboard wizardry), and that's what made them last longer than most pop sensations.
The 'One Direction' of the 80s
Excellent!

I always thought Duran Duran were more influenced by early Roxy Music's sound more than that of anyone else, but then Roxy's first two bass players, Rik Kenton and John Gustafson, were likely familiar with Squire's work.
No complaints here. Love DD. {#Bananajam}
How in the name of music is this song from Duran Duran holding up so well? Never would have thunk it in the '80s. Solid 8.
Brings back some great memories for this child of the 80's. Classic video:
