Gray Jean was a river child
Born down by the river wild
Said hey, what ya wanna be?
Nobody's gonna intervene

And she wants you but you won't do
And it won't leave you alone
And the rain falls on the wrong year
And it won't leave you alone, it won't leave you alone

Could be that he's into you
Could be that the opposite's true
Struck down as a summer child
Ten steps just to run a mile

And he wants you but you won't do
And it won't leave you alone
And the rain falls on the wrong year
And it won't leave you alone, it won't leave you alone

Your spirit's willing
Flesh is getting bored
Speaker's blaring out some long forgotten chord
Some misbegotten long forgotten chord

Sing me some mandolin
And I'll sleep all the winter long
Till then I can only be,
nobody's gonna intervene

And she wants you but you won't do
And it won't leave you alone
And the rain falls on the wrong year
And it won't leave you alone, it won't leave you alone

I listen to most of their Albums a lot, but this one hat not left its sleeve for a long time. Something is missing.

Could be misbegotten even.

Yes, but the cover is very nice.
Dull, boring
One of my new favorite groups. Not my favorite song but love their music. Thank you RP.

This is where white mainstream rock was before the Beatles came along and injected some actual Creativity.
It's the current version of Pat Boone.
Stodgy straight 4x4 beat, boring vocals, etc.
'Safe' and an easy 1 at most.

This may not be the most exciting or dynamic tune, but that's not really a "straight 4/4 beat".
Seems I'm liking quite a few tunes from this release. Hopefully it doesn't wear thin in time.
played too much
I'd give it a 7 even if only for the line "the spirit is willing but the flesh is getting bored"

Eight months, four days later, I can second this comment. Though today it is mid afternoon when this set played again.

Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Bill Hailey, and Jerry Lee Lewis tend to disagree with your weak back-handed insult.  This track fits quite nicely with the Jenny Lewis song athat preceded it as well as the Grateful Dead song that came after.  If Americana is not your bag, just hit the PSD.  There's really no need to get condescending and pretentious about it.

Feel feel feel mare, at 99.9 degrees beware of the fillies.
"Midnight Rambler"   thank you psd, REAL music (not this December shit)
So mediocre it's mediocre.

A rare decent among my likeables and ho-hums. Still thought it was Death Cab until I made it back to my phone and checked.
A pretty moderate and polished song for them. Digging this new direction, hope it leads them to be more appealing to Colin's haters. They're a great band.
Going to see them tomorrow night at the Peabody in St Louis! Can't wait. Carolina Low is probably my favorite song off this CD, but I like it all.

Thanks Bill!

Thanks for raising the standards of RP comments... there's just not enough potty humor.

I'm soooo over these guys! At first, I liked what I heard, but this is a classic case of overplay. Bill, you gotta thin out your playlists a little on these guys. The ratings on their songs keep dropping for me, but I don't think it's their fault. I'm down to a "2" on this song now.
So I'm just wondering how much Bill does his programming in advance. Is this a recovery for playing Auld Lang Syne 2 songs back? Hahahaha
I'm really liking the new album. Several great tunes.
Blech!
Couple misprints in the lyrics.

Your spirit's weiling (willing)
Flesh is getting old (bored)

Interesting tune. I like it somewhat better than other Decemberists I've heard.
Nice.  7 upon first listen.  We'll see where it goes from here.
I appreciate these guys. I just can't listen to them. For me, they join Arcade Fire and Death Cab for Cutie territory. Many people like them, they seem to have some musical and lyrical chops, and they take creative risks — but they are either overrated, or an acquired taste. In some cases, they are just plain annoying after the 3rd or 10th listen and so compel that magic button.
Diggin' the groove, but I'll wait for a few more listens before I rate it.
These guys are amazing.
awful sound, dopey cover art, I'll quik psd before this song leaves an odor

no more Peter Buck jangle?
O YEAH!!!!!
