Everybody's asking where did you go?
This was gonna be my masterpiece
The paint's not even dry yet, oh no
I could trace the outline of a shadow
I need blood and breath
To mix my colours
Where did you go
After you promised me a portrait
Took off your clothes, held a pose
Drawing your arms, your hands and veins
And fingers and your lips
Broken nose
On your eyes, so just stare into the distance
Please don't move, whatever you do
While I'm adding the blue
I know I'm not Monet or Van Gogh
I can't draw like S. Clay Wilson
You got inside this brush
That drips with red
I can't draw from memories or photos
I need blood and breath
But you left me nothing
Where did you go
After you promised me a portrait
Took off your clothes, held a pose
Drawing your arms, your hands and veins
And fingers and your lips
Broken nose
On your eyes, so just stare into the distance
Please don't move, whatever you do
While I'm adding the blue
Closed this chapter yesterday
Take this page and throw it away
Fill the holes in, sand the wall
You were never here at all
The warmth where someone never stood
Promises were never good
The smell of human sweat and tears
A passing thought, the passing year, baby
Where did you go
After you promised me a portrait
Took off your clothes, held a pose
Drawing your arms, your hands and veins
And fingers and your lips
Broken nose
On your eyes, so just stare into the distance
Please don't move, whatever you do

So what of it? When's your album coming out? Chrissie's made some great music since, if you're not just looking for "one of the best debut efforts in Rock history". There are a scant few of those, and then you're left with not much else to listen to. In the meantime, lyrically Chrissie Hynde has only grown. This is a great song and very enjoyable album from a mature singer who always shows her uniqueness in everything she puts out.

I have to say - I've listened to and loved her music/voice ever since I knew about her back in the 80s. But for some reason, this characteristic of her singing has become very distracting to me of late. In this particular song, it almost seems contrived/overdone instead of natural.
Why can't she just sing a word instead of giving it 3 notes and syllables?
Pfffft, only 3 notes and syllables? Mariah Carey says hold my Cosmo.

Chrissie's Stockholm is a masterpiece -- every song is great. A wonderful evolution beyond The Pretenders.

Reckless : My Life As a Pretender
Stockholm is one of my all time favorite albums. I like this better than anything she did with the Pretenders (though I like their work a lot). Every song is really good, exceptionally well-produced. Been listening to this album for years and it still sounds fresh.

Saying someone is sexy is not sexist. Obviously no one has ever said it to you.

Mediocre at best subsequent to the deaths of Honeyman-Scott and Farndon 40 years ago when she was 30.
Hynde sadly never again came anywhere near the magnificence of her first album with The Pretenders, arguably one of the best debut efforts in Rock history.

Never heard it before tonight, but what a belter! Her unique marque on it through and through, go Chrissie, just keep them coming! Sorry about your Dubai audience earlier this year, well within your rights.

I've heard this before here. While it's still playing again. I'm bumping it. Gorgeous story and melody. That is a very soulful song.
And to think the media has Chrissie Hynde all washed up. Great song.
Wonderful song.
Wonderful album.
Wonderful album.
This might be the worst morning of Radio Paradise I've listened to in the 14 years or so I've been listening. I've hit PSD 8 times already in two hours. This song is getting the PSD as soon as I post this.

She's still got it… as good as ever… and inspires like a rising tide... floating a lot of boats, like mine.

7 or 8? A very thoughtful piece. Lovely melody. Lyrics please.
I so respect her music and love her spunk. Love this song—so good to hear her again.

At least on Stockholm she has stopped quavering so much but I'm afraid I just don't quite "get" CH. Why can't she just sing a word instead of giving it 3 notes and syllables? But, I like this understated song better that the others Bill is playing at the moment.

There are better tracks off of this album; I'd lose this one.
Caught her on The Colbert Report last week. She's still got it!
Good song. Better album cover!
Good new stuff.
This song is soooo good for the ears...
