In the darkness before the dawn
In the swirling of this storm
When I'm rolling with the punches
And hope is gone
Leave a light, a light on

Millions of miles from home
In the swirling, swimming on
When I'm rolling with the thunder
But bleed from thorns
Leave a light, a light on

Leave a light, a light on

In the darkness before the dawn
In the darkness before the dawn
Leave a light, a light on
Leave a light, a light on

Go to settings and under info options select two columns and never scroll down past lyrics.
Like it!
This sounds like it should be on an OST. That's a good thing for me. IMDB says it is not.

Edit: And today as it plays, I'm reading about another school shooting

Wow. Thanks for the heads up.
I was kinda enjoying this song until I read your comment and realized it was Coldplay.
So anyways, this band is brutally bad.
But ask yourself, who is the one whining?

I always thought that this was Bon Iver. Don't like them.
Coldplay is generally OK with me, but still don't like this.
I am not usually a huge Coldplay fan (I know, my loss...) but I love this song....great for bicycle soundtracking

Hahah!!! Good one. :D

Unfortunately, no vocoder could save Thom Yorke of not sounding pitiful as he is. ;)
Not their biggest fan but this is more like it.  Chris Martin should use a vocoder all the time.
As I was walking home, just past midnight, first day of 2018, this song popped up in my headphones, the perfect moment!
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018 - 新年快乐 - BONNE ANNEE
Very, very nice!

C. Martin:
"Oh, l like this sound in Depeche Mode... let's make an easy tune.... yes, gimme 5 secondes... oops, my fingers went wrong... but, Oh, sounds good anyway!.. OK, I got the melody.
OK, we have a hit, guys!"
Against all haters, i do like this band!

Excellent comment, Christopher Woods!  Coldplay lost me after Rush of Blood to the Head, after showing such amazing promise in that album, and Parachutes before it.  This song, Midnight, seems like (hopefully) a return to interesting and creative music, not endless arena rock.

I could get interested in Coldplay again if they're going to keep moving away from their previous big-stadium-happy-crowd-soft-rock-anthem sound. I liked their early, crumblier indie sound, and - like that sound - this track's much more sonically and musically interesting.

Particularly like it in sequence with a bit of Led Zep (Your Time is Gonna Come), good choice Bill as usual!
I like this band, sorry :-( lol!
Overplayed
very good album!
Be sure your subs are in phase for this one.

OK, I find this really funny. These comments made me go listen to some Kraftwerk this afternoon. As a result, I discovered that the main opening riff for Coldplay's Talk was very blatantly ripped from the Kraftwerk song Computer Love.

I think I'm sensitive to this riff because it also happens to be the ringtone on my wife's phone for the past five years (the Coldplay version)...

Yes, and they had asked Kraftwerk if they could use it and Kraftwerk said "Go for it!"  So what's the problem? Riffs are ripped, borrowed or stolen all the time...some are just better hidden than others.

Really disliking this.  I think it is the auto-tune effect.  I find it distracting and difficult to listen to.

Haha, nailed it. Like it a lot even if it's Limp Bizkit ;)
He is not using an autotuner, it is a Vocoder that has been around since the 70's. Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton are some examples of artists to use it.

so un-coldplay like, I like it. ;-)
Coldplay doing their best Bon Iver impression. Or is it a Foals impression? It sounds like so many other bands that aren't Coldplay that it's hard to pick just one.
this is a step up for coldplay

Just curious, Bill: in your opinion which performer or song is the worst abuser of auto-tune? I remember hearing a raw recording of Julio Iglesias's kid that someone smuggled out of the studio: the guy could not carry a tune.

Isn't that the point of recording in a modern studio?; practicing, getting that muscle memory, finding sounds, re-recording, dropping in and out, mixing, fading, effecting, mastering trying to produce something nice, ear catching, popular, moody etc, all with the threat that you may have used the same chord sequence somewhere owned by a lawyer in China who will sue your ass..........

That said, the likes of coldplay & U2, strumm along with the orchestra , a chord sequence bought and varified litigation free .... they seem to have a following of people who like the songs cause they can sing along,  also with the intonation of a sweeping brush pulled from a pond and wrapped tight in fishing line!

Julio sings live more than he records, (even in the school yard) and thats proof enough for me that he should be up there.

not usually a big Coldplay fan...no matter the reason.
This is an amazing song!
This whole album is superb.
Chillplay
I like the violins, dreamy relaxing music.

Makes me think of Tom Bodett's Motel 6 adds. Or something to play in the first settlement on Mars.

Lots of hate around this song, but I love it!
Wow, I wondered who this was. Reminds me of Kurt Bestor (in a good way, I still find The Prayer of the Children incredibly powerful). I think it's great CP are not afraid to try something different. It made me sit up and listen!
Yuk.
Gets a 3 from me for the ruinous vocal 'styling'.

The effect may not be to your liking, but it's not duplicious in the way that auto-tune generally is.

Hmm. No surprise in this eclectic assortment of music lovers that there would be Coldplay haters. I'm a big fan of this track. Ripped off or otherwise, it's haunting, ambient, etc. Just plain cool.

I liked this especially because Mr.Martin was not singing. Thought it was William Orbit to start

Coldplay have had an interesting career.

When they first came out, I thought Thom Yorke had pulled the trigger on himself and Radiohead found themselves a new singer. Not horrible, but certainly not original.

They then seemed to discover that the way to get rich is to write radio-friendly pop. That's when I wrote them off entirely.

Now, what was this? Somewhere underneath Massive Attack, dance-floor-friendly 90's trance-hop?

I'm giving this a 2.

Maybe in a decade I'll suddenly get them. It took about that long for me to realize Oasis was actually talented....

first time I've heared this, is it new? sounds good initially but hmm, then again ooh. I used to be indecisive but I'm not so sure now.

I have a hard time with Coldplay.  I dig some of their stuff, and I think this is pret' darn good but for some odd reason that guy who named his kid Apple just bugs the heck out of me...
This would fit well on my soporific playlist. {#Sleep}

And I thought Coldplay was on the list of groups I dislike.

This is a great song. Very unique, nice melody, interesting use of sounds and tones. Maybe, just maybe Coldplay can encourage me to listen to their new music, but with the previous two albums they totally lost my interest...
Nice to hear something from them without Martin's appalling falsetto wailing.  Sampled from other stuff, true, but I think it is listenable if not purchase material.
Did not know, this was coldplay, but then....not a bad song!
Sounds like a track off Chicane - Behind the sun.
