Well, won't you lend your lungs to me?
Mine are collapsing
Plant my feet and bitterly breathe
Up the time that's passing.
Breath I'll take and breath I'll give
Pray the day ain't poison
Stand among the ones that live
In lonely indecision.
Fingers walk the darkness down
Mind is on the midnight
Gather up the gold you've found
You fool, it's only moonlight.
If you try to take it home
Your hands will turn to butter
You better leave this dream alone
Try to find another.
Salvation sat and crossed herself
Called the devil partner
Wisdom burned upon a shelf
Who'll kill the raging cancer
Seal the river at its mouth
Take the water prisoner
Fill the sky with screams and cries
Bathe in fiery answers
Jesus was an only son
And love his only concept
Strangers cry in foreign tongues
And dirty up the doorstep
And I for one, and you for two
Ai'nt got the time for outside
Just keep your injured looks to you
We'll tell the world we tried
Mine are collapsing
Plant my feet and bitterly breathe
Up the time that's passing.
Breath I'll take and breath I'll give
Pray the day ain't poison
Stand among the ones that live

I knew Townes when he went to Colorado University. He was a fraternity pledge brother of mine for a very short while. Not his shtick!! Another great one lost to us from drugs and alcohol.

Have you ever heard of a man named Bob Dylan? Or maybe Neil Young?
But you know what? All three voices grow on you over time. Give them a chance.
Great songwriter......worst....singer......ever.

'69 cool
that photo has me thinking of the really quiet, sharply intelligent kid in class who doesn't have his homework, and when you talk to him later outside of school, he has focused bright eyes and says odd brilliant comments about just about anything

Someone mentioned that RP had no Robert Randolph. I agreed that this was a horrible oversight and submitted great three Robert Randolph songs. All I got for my troubles was "sorry"; hell, I've been stoned on all my submissions.
I fight the urge to collect some rotten eggs and look for a certain dj's house (kidding...). This is a great song, though, so you must be happy to hear some Townes. Must check him out...
More Townes. So far has been regularyl rejected as upload!

Like this one a lot. Would love to hear LL's cover too.
Most Excellent. Lyle's cover is just as good. Had not heard the original until True Detective.

excellent addition to the playlist. Thank you Bill and Rebecca.
Was lucky enough to see Townes once back in the day, a night I still remember intensely.

Are we having a True Detective moment here?
