Looked up this morning, saw the roses full of thorns
Guns are falling, they don't have nowhere to go
Oceans of diamonds always shine, smooth out below
Can we start it all over again this morning?
I lost all my defenses this morning
Won't you show me the way it used to be?
I've gone all around 'til there's nothing left to say
Wrote it all down into something that couldn't be said
I tore it all down and buried me underneath the wave
Can we start it all over again this morning?
I let down my defenses this morning
It was just you and me this morning
I fought all my guesses this morning
Won't you show me the way it could've been?
Remember, in body heat william hurt tells kathleen turner sometimes he feels like he needs a hat. Maybe like this one and maybe for the same purpose.
My favorite line from that movie: "You're pretty dumb. I like that in a man."

I know the confliction you describe and (for me at least) I've resolved it by 1) remembering that Mr. Hansen has NEVER come to my door trying to 'convert' me and 2) having compassion for him and anyone else that I believe has been lead astray with any number of bullshit religions, etc.
Once that clicks for you I think you'll find you're able to enjoy his tunes a bit better. Heck, his post-breakup album (Sea Change) captures very well that 'lost love' feeling that we HUMANS endure from time to time, atheist/christian/scientologist/etc., alike.
Long Live RP!! OH...I have this one rated at 8....it's borderline 9 for me.
I think it's important to point out that Beck's parents were both Scientologists. He was born into it - never had a chance. No need to do mental gymnastics. Beck aside from his beliefs is still an artist you can't ignore.
As it's three months after you posted that, and I'm listening to it on a foggy Sunday morning ... I agree.

Thanks to both of you for summing it up for me. In the end its just great music and we're all trying to find the way.
If someones religion or political beliefs put me off their music, I'd be listening to...nothing.
Scientology is a tad quacked, as with a few other religions including Christianity, but if the music is good I'm willing to ignore that aspect of him, her or them.
And by the way, Beck said he is no longer a Scientoligist https://www.hollywoodreporter....
Yes. We all are in agreement. Beck is a boring no-talent asshole.
No Talent? LMAO
Jealous much?

I am so conflicted!! I really enjoy Beck's music...but that Scientology crap continues, continues to put me off.

So ... you'd discriminate based on a person's religion?
Maybe this will help to clarify why so many of us feel the way we do about the subject: https://www.foxnews.com/entert...

You were oh so original in "going there". Bold. A true adventurer.
Yes Beck - do the "70s thing" while listening to Dark Side of the Moon
Completely different chord progression - not even vaguely similar, but don't let that ruin your narrative. Apparently, every song was written by Pink Floyd anyhow, at least according to many listeners here.

Well I was just thinking how people get up themsleves about 'fashion'; Reading the comments of Nena's poppy little dittie compared to the reverential, existentialist comments about this dirge is certainly a case of the Emperor's New Clothes. It's just slower folks, and in english (and without the armpit hair), get over it, get international and most importanly, get a wider viewpoint!

Good summary for my feelings as well. After all, he's just a musician.
Nobody is "just a musician".

Agree totally. When I heard he and his band were playing in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast recently and it was being shown on TV I sat down to watch the show... Beck appeared on stage and proceeded to sing along to dance type songs.
Not what I was expecting at all - I thought I was watching somebody else

The gypsy flies from coast to coast
Knowing many, loving none
Bearing sorrow, having fun
But back home he'll always run...
That's what I heard on the intro too, but a little bit slower... oh, Sweet Melissa!
Agree completely!
The gypsy flies from coast to coast
Knowing many, loving none
Bearing sorrow, having fun

...to sweet Melissa
.
(but I don't think it sounds like that)
Lets see Dose out of almost 600 reviews the AVERAGE is 7.5 shall I repeat it? 7.5 you ARE A boring no intelligence RP listener, use the PSD and SPARE us your DRIVEL!

Some people are just constitutionally incapable of sparing us their drivel. Fortunately Bill, like 7.5 out of 10 of us, likes Beck.
Yes. We all are in agreement. Beck is a boring no-talent asshole.

So sorry Beck didn't reply to your love letters.
Time to let it go and move on, dude.
I wasn't agreeing that Beck has no talent and is boring.
I was agreeing to the statement that opinions are like assholes.
Have another beer
So we are in agreement that Beck Hanson is no talent boring asshole? I thought so.
Yes Beck - do the "70s thing" while listening to Dark Side of the Moon
Yes, again, this guy Beck Hanson writing a lame version of song that has already been written.
If you're so easily bored by a song that's only a few minutes long, that's on you, not Beck.
No. It's him.

What a lovely world you must live in where everyone agrees with you whether they do or not.

Me too!

I still like it, though.
Yeah, Hansen ripping off himself ripping off Gregg Allman.
My thoughts as well. You beat me to it.

As they say, opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's got one.

I am renewing my donation for your superb play tonight!!! Joe Cocker? I'm a Delta Lady living in Richmond, VA.
As they say, opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's got one.

Very similar. I thought it was a cover by a different band at first.

The pipe, one would imagine. If one were so inclined.

Me too!

I still like it, though.
I thought the same thing, but I really like both songs. He should mash them up live.

More like mourning, amirite?
Solid album all the way through with strong theme underlying. Becks got the midas touch.
Baiting?...
The Golden Age part 2. Not that excellent.
How dare an artist revisit some of the best musical themes of their career. It's like he thinks he has a sound or something.

Who cares?
I love this album! It will be one of my favorites of 2014.
The Golden Age part 2. Not that excellent. I'm hoping for some more original cuts.

Absolutely!

Looking forward to hearing the whole thing, even though it does sound like he's consciously trying to recreate the previous album's sound.
Kinda waiting for the tune to get past the “I’ve so heard this before”, rut.
Loved it then, and love it now. This is a great album.
