And the people went into their hide, they oh
From the start they didn't know exactly why, why
Winter came and made it so all look alike, look alike
Underneath the grass would grow, aiming at the sky

It was swift, it was just, another wave of a miracle
But no one, nothing at all would go for the kill
If they called on every soul in the land, on the moon
Only then would they know a blessing in disguise

The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before
The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before

Tell me now of the very souls that look alike, look alike
Do you know the stranglehold covering their eyes?
If I call on every soul in the land, on the moon
Tell me if I'll ever know a blessing in disguise

The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before
And the curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before

One of the best shows I've seen in years.
This song was particularly intense.
How could this song be intense, you ask?
Well, for one thing, the two cellos had the intensity of Entwistle & Squire (really).
I guess you just had to be there.

Thanks Bill for playing Agnes. I had never heard of her..., but loving it.
Just got me a ticket for her performance at 'Best Kept Secret' festival on June 16 2017. Can't wait!

 Me too !
After a segue from Vienna Teng (whom I like too) I think this is much better so revising my rating upwards from  7 —-> 8.

uh oh.

I bet David Byrne will play now....
Kind of noticed the heavy Kate Bush Never For Ever-era influence.

To which do you object; The rodent or the flatulence?
HM. The rodent or the  flatulence - sounds like the name of a new York city punk band.
The flatulent rat - sounds like the name of a British pub.

There was at least 30 second silence before the song start, could have been used for a support appeal, what a waste of money {#Cheesygrin}
Or it is the curse, but which one?
Is she related to Denis O'Bell of "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number" fame

Fantastic!

All the things you may have heard it before.
Relax,  she's better than me with pack of lies.
              And here she comes,
There's a girl from Lithuania - Alina Orlova. They could have sung a duet together with Agnes...
Never heard her voice on RP. Why so?
Is she related to Dennis Obel, famed lounge singer who collaborated with 4 lads from Liverpool on "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number" back in the late 60's?

I saw her twice this year in NYC. Once at the Bowery Ballroom with a big crowd and then at Le Poisson Rouge with a smaller crowd. The sonic clarity of her voice and the two other musicians was astounding. She had the crowd so quiet you could hear a mouse fart. Well worth the cost of admission. See her if you get the chance (but I think her tour just wrapped last night in Australia).

Truly godlike! So well-done Agnes Obel.
Easily my favourite album for some time
kinda new age - it's kinda nice - lots of voice training - give me Diana Kralll

even early Kate Bush ( not the late kate bush)
Diggin' it.
Saw this great video on YouTube yesterday:

Still think it's whiny crap?
P.S. I am loving those huge retro lighting fixtures
Also just realized that a link to this was one of the first comments here....oops.  Consider it a bump.  And I embedded it for you ;)

Don't really understand why this artists would be "world" music. Lovely tune furshur, but still pretty mainstream for 1st world music, IMHO. It is not like she is doing ancient Viking songs or anything.

We need more Neptunian music!  Martian music is more of an acquired taste.  Good tune, even if she is an Earthling.
Une merveille je ne m´en lasse pas!merci Radioparadise de nous la programmer!

Reminds me a lot of Sarah McLachlan's first album, Touch.  very nice
This is divine. Love the cello.
{#Cool}
Very very very lovely, different, beautiful!
great artist, more world music please??
One of my favorite artists - such a sweet voice and haunting songs.
Liking her more with each hearing. Great voice. 7 -> 8
A riff on the cello borrowed from tears for fears - nicely done.
That album cover is (perhaps deliberately) reminiscent of UK postage stamps with Elizabeth Windsor's head on them...

Ooh, that cool Scandinavian voice gets me just there every time {#Hearteyes}
You can watch her - perhaps only with a proxy - live up to 720p until October 14th.

Curious about the title Aventine I was compelled to Google the word and aside from learning Aventine is Agnes' second studio album I also learned from Wikipedia that Aventine Hill is one of the 7 hills on which ancient Rome was built.  Aventine is a cool sounding word.

Rome wasn't built in a day so I can't help but wonder what Agnes will build in her 3rd album on what seems to be a really nice foundation.

How's about that for  a Google to Wiki to RP Trifecta.  {#Dance}

She doesn't sound like Norah Jones at all to me, but I suppose everyone hears different things.
Plus 29C in Puerto Vallarta and she still sounds good.
((High 80's for the Fahrenheit crowd).
Somewhat haunting. I like this style of music. It seems to go with the -20 temperature outside.

Norah Jones makes music.

Agnes Obel makes dream worlds.

Do we really need another Norah Jones?
this seems to be on heavy rotation. I like it, though.
Beautiful!
Goes for all of her music!
Fantastic production on this Song. The upright bass sounds lush.
Ooh, these Scandinavian women are just sooooo cool, in both modern and standard meanings of the word. Spare, minimalist, clear singing, yet moving and haunting. RP, you are really spoiling us with these Vikings {#War}. 8 from the entranced Nottingham jury.
Really liking what I've heard of hers so far. This too. Interesting. And of course, beautiful vocals. :-)
Loved this from the first note 'til the very last one!
