What would you do
if it all came back to you?
Each crest of each wave
bright as lightning.

What would you say
if you had to leave today?
leave everything behind
even though for once, you're shining.

Standing on higher ground
when you hear the sounds
you realize it's just the wind.
And you notice it matters
who and what you let under your skin.

Put to the test
would you step back from the line of fire?
Hold everything back
all emotions set aside it.

Convince yourself
someone else
and fight from the world
your lack of confidence.
What you choose to believe in
takes you much too far
takes you much too far.

No one else around you
no one to understand you

no one to hear your calls.
Look through all your dark corners
you're backed up against the wall
step back from the line of fire.

What would you do
if it all came back to you?
each crest of each wave
bright as the lightning
do the same as you do
do the same as you do
do the same as you,
do the same as you.

I do the same as you,
Do the same as you
do the same as you do
What you choose to believe in
takes you much too far

No one else around you
no one to understand you
no one to hear your calls.
Look through all your dark corners
you're backed up against the wall
Step back from the line of fire x 8

Step back
Step back
Step back

Simple but so effective and really draws you in and threatens to be hummed the rest of the day.
Superb song

Thank you! I couldn't quite pin down what this reminded me of until I saw this. (Still like both tracks nonetheless.)
From wiki:  ". Their song "Line of Fire" was used twice in The Blacklist."

No wonder it sounded so familiar.

Simple melodies, builds, long notes.  The writing is not that complex but it works.
Yum.  Good song.

This track is at the top of my dream music track list of a screenplay I've written. Along with Your Spirit to Me, by Big Country, it perfectly captures the mood and themes of the story. I can hardly wait for my pitch meetings and to be able to play a snippet of this.  Terrific track.

can we have an update on this? how did it go? sounds really cool.
such a powerfull song

 Yup, it is him

So far an 8, not only do I like it on first listen one of their songs is in one of my favorite films. After loving the original with Danny Kaye as a child I didn't expect to like the remake.  (The Secret life of Walter Mitty) What a wonderful surprise!
JG deserved to be promoted in Walter Mitty.
Same immediate reaction.

Great music, I like all that JG does.

I just SO SO wish he cleaned up his production quality. Could be amazing sound if produced well..

Had to bump my initial 7 to 8, love the way this song builds
Love this song too, very moody, sort of Indie sounding.

Personally, for myself, i had & still have an awful lot of music on cassette tape which as yet i've not been able to replace 'digitally'. But i would much rather put up with quite frankly abysmal sound quality & still be able to hear those songs, than consign them to the bin.
The song has to be worth it of course. I think this song does that & looking at comments below i think (for once) i'm not alone. I know this ain't a democracy but if it were, i'd vote to keep playing it now & then & damn the sound quality issues.
thats my tu'pence anyway.
cheers

PS gave away one hundred & twenty of my old C90 cassette tapes a couple of weeks ago. Only another three hundred & eighty or so to go . . .
great song, not great production quality, but I can overlook that seeing as we really don't have any recourse to fix it. Can't help but connect this to Breaking Bad final season, saw the AMC promo with this tune too many times— but an excellent match.
On the positive side I know from reading further down its not my speakers now.  It is a hell of a shame cause though I normally say remix is a dirty word good lord get someone else in there next time.  There is a great song screaming to get out.

Wow, that's a shame as it's a great song... I think that given the choice I'd rather hear it occasionally and put up with the mix than lose it altogether!

coldplay meets moodyblues. i dont understand the mixing issues etc but i hope it stays around

Agree!
So, that is José González.  Like it.  8
Some of their music is used in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty".

Raku is very cool. It's like getting a prize from a grab bag: you're never quite sure of what you're going to get.

Talented artist who must surely know that crummy production is bound to harm his chances of being played.  If MrG is going to drop the song because the quality is so poor then what are we to do?
nice

I find myself asking Siri to play Line of Fire way too often.  I need to bump my rating up a notch.

Love the song, but is this a low bitrate version, or an odd production choice? It sounds nasty, and I'm on the 192K ogg stream... sounds like it's clipping most of the time?

LOVELY BAND!
Bill,

I noticed when this went by last night that the closing organ chords reflected the opening organ chords in Sarah McLaughlin's partially-appropriated tune, Obsession. Thought it might make a good overlap segue.

Another godlike piece from José González.
The overall rate of only 7.5 on this song is truly disappointing.

Agreed!!
I believe it won't be an exaggeration to say that this is my favourite song since at least 2005. Music. Lyrics. Jose Gonzalez. Breaking Bad. Travels. People. Life. Amazing, amazing.
Jose Gonzalez has a band? Thought he was just a solo act.

This song has one of the more disturbing music videos to go with it. Don't care for it, it's unsettling...yet I remember it...so they've done their job I suppose. The tune itself is so good that it doesn't ruin it for me after seeing the video, but I should say the video doesn't help. It's well done, but incredibly grimace inducing.
me, I'm likin' this one.

Fantastic choice of song for the final episode's trailer:

This song is why I love Radio Paradise.  What a beautiful song Bill!
One of the greatest new tunes by far on RP. Jose Gonzalez and his brilliant group. He has done some cool stuff with Zero 7 too. The guy is becoming godlike really{#Bananajam}
Possibly my favorite song at the moment... absolutely beautiful
Great song, nice voice: 8.
very nice tune...I like especially the intro...refrain is a bit more common, but overall great ;)
Thanks for playing!

One need not think that "music just consists of lining up one note by the other" in order to believe that there has never been anything "completely new".  Even Miles Davis' playing and composing were influenced by those of his predecessors.
Great tune. Bought it after  the first time I heard it on RP

Got to get this!!
Love this!!
Great stuff
КлассМП, пПЎМОЌает МастрПеМОе :)
I really make a connection to this song.  Beautiful!
Real good music
Great song ruined by excessive recording levels.

This song is just gorgeous.
OK, from 7 -> 8. Gets better and better. Love Jose Gonzalez.

Ha! Glad I could help out! :)
Really liking this, how is the whole CD anyone?
Feeling a bit Moody Bluesy
This song is growing on me.
Here's an interesting video . . .

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSaDElz7wSI

. . . and a comment from a youtube listener, "theedgeofadream":
“The story of a tormented old man, stuck in a relationship that perhaps was not his choice, or preference. We see fragments from childhood, the first awkward kiss, the father watching over him. Making sure he follows the right path. The old man, like all of us, a person programmed by the convictions and beliefs of others. In the case of the old man, the unconscious suddenly manifest itself when a young, jeans wearing character appears in their home, forcing him to question who he really is.”

Just great music {#Sunny} 8 - 9.  Looking forward to seeing them again in Manchester UK at The Band on the wall on May 12th {#Good-vibes}
These guys are great, I like Jose Gonzalez's solo stuff 8 ---> 9.

Heard 'Chickens' on RP a few weeks ago and bought their first CD immediately. Can't wait for the new release next week

I'm confused either way.
The song does not seem worthy of the insult if you are being sarcastic (unless you intend to level the comment at almost everything played even on this station).
If you actually mean what you've said then either you've heard very little else, or you are hearing something that is passing me by completely.

of course sarcasm, which eventually prevents from insult.....
level? too much good music in this world to give 7/8/9 to so many songs played here: that´s sort of insult to really good ones

au contraire, Bill! The album isn't out until April 20: https://www.junip.net/. I just looked it up when the song came on tonight.

Nice. Evocative. In some ways, mostly the synth lines, it echoes some Moby tracks.
