I am a man
I am self-aware
And everywhere I go
You are always right there with me
I flirted with you all my life
Even kissed you once or twice
And to this day I swear it was nice
But clearly I was not ready.
When you touched a friend of mine
I thought I would lose my mind
And I found out with time
That really I was not ready, no, no
Oh death, oh death, oh death, really, I'm not ready

Oh death,
You me
Decimate those dear to me

Teased me with your sweet release
You are full and you are constant.
When my Mom she was cancer sick,
She fought but then succumbed to it
But you made her beg for it
Sweet Jesus, please I'm ready.

Oh death, oh death, oh death
Really, I'm not ready, no no no.
I'm not ready
I'm not ready
No, no
Oh death, oh death,
Really, I'm not ready.

Thanks, interesting stuff. BTW my son is in your namesake city, NZ as we speak. He had more success than me, an earthquake got in my way.
Sorry, that sounds callous, but I have been a bad omen for places, many have burned, exploded, flooded, quaked, revolted, or collapsed within a year or two of my visit, this one was the day before I was due to be there.
Or maybe the world is imploding around us.
Shite! where's that 20 year old single malt when you need it?

Would it be too much to ask that RP play Vic Chesnutt? I like this cover, but how about the original?

Have to agree with this.

This band got played on AM radio?  Are you sure about that?
Relating & Power - full but would love to hear the original.

I have 'heard' this song before, but I've never 'listened' to it until now. Wow. Intense, especially after learning its provenance.

BillG - get out of my head!  I was just looking for the request a song button 10 min ago - for this song!
They just keep making good music.
This is an extremely up-tempo song for Margo and the rest of the Boring Flunkies.
I can hardly believe my ears. It only took them a few decades.
{#Yes}{#Dance}  Bitchin' song.

What a great (but haunting) song!  Margo's voice is perfect for this cover.
I used to hate the Cowboy Junkies based on what I heard on the AM/FM Radio. Now after listening to RP, they are one of my favorite groups. And I love this song.
amazing song... followed me the last couple of days while travelling the Balkans and thinking about the girl from UÅŸice...

..love this tune..lyrics touch me as so very personal & so transcendent, simultaneously..

Doesn't sound unlike Nathalie Merchant / 10,000 Maniacs.
The more I hear Cowboy Junkies, the more I like their hypnotic and evocative sound.
Infectious bass line......
Like, much.

Thank you for posting them!

Thank you!

This is an excellent cover from a fine album...  all of the songs on the album are Vic Chesnutt covers...  although the album is a tribute to Vic Chesnutt, the band is also providing a realistic perspective of the demons he struggled with his entire life...

Vic Chesnutt, Singer and Songwriter, Dies at 45
by Ben Sisario
The New York Times
December 25, 2009

Vic Chesnutt, whose darkly comic songs about mortality, vulnerability and life’s simple joys made him a favorite of critics and fellow musicians, died Friday in a hospital in Athens, Ga., a family spokesman said. He was 45 and lived in Athens.

He had been in a coma after taking an overdose of muscle relaxants earlier this week, said the spokesman, Jem Cohen.

Mr. Chesnutt had a cracked, small voice but sang with disarming candor about a struggle for peace in a life filled with pain. A car crash at age 18 left him partly paralyzed, and he performed in a wheelchair.

The accident, he has said, focused him as a songwriter, and it became the subject of some of his earliest recordings. “I’m not a victim/Oh, I am an atheist,” Mr. Chesnutt sang in “Speed Racer,” from his first album, “Little,” produced by Michael Stipe of R.E.M. and released in 1990...

I need to check out this new CD from CJ ... any reactions out there from fellow RP-ers? Did you like it? Did you not? Cheers! {#Cheers} (I like this track!)
Vic, the world is a lesser place without you.

This is a good tribute. Maybe some day Radio Paradise might give his music a spin. I gave up trying. Tragically so did Vic and eventually he was tired of flirting and felt ready.
Tnx RP, excellent track from CJs.
Terrific Bass line ....  reminds me of Tommy Mac
First time hearing this.(8)
..It could easily go higher.
