When you're a charmer
the apples fall
and you're quite the little collector
you got 'em all

When you're a charmer
people respond
they can't see the hidden agenda
you got going on

But when you're weak it's the Holy Grail
you're two for one, it's a fire sale
and that's a wall that you cannot scale
so you're forced to burrow under

When you're a charmer
the world applauds
they don't know that secretly charmers
feel like they're frauds

When you're a charmer
you hate yourself
a victim of sideshow hypnosis
like everyone else

and then your thinking goes black and white
and you're all hunger and appetite
this is a battle you cannot fight
no, you only can surrender
no, you only can surrender

I was catching up on "Portlandia" the other night. In one episode, Aimee was Fred Armisen's and Carrie Brownstein's cleaning woman. I didn't recognize her at first, even tho' they were calling her "Aimee." Under some pretext, they made her do a song, and then I got it, "That's Aimee Mann!" How she's aged, I thought. Then I looked it up. She's 52. She's been recording for 30 years. Oh.

BTW, she quits in disgust and exchanges pleasantries with Fred and Carrie's gardener, Sarah McLachlan.

Funny!  I was just telling a co-worker (Amy) about Aimee in Portlandia…..and as far as the "she's aged" comment....ain't it awful when you realize "boy I've aged too!" lol
Long Live RP!!

The music is a coded secret message...  the masses must understand this...

I have a magic sword, and early this morning I had a vision and my magic sword guided me to the middle of a cornfield where I found a supernatural DVD, along with rubies and sapphires, and some Hanes magic underwear...

I took the supernatural DVD to one of my mushrooming multitude of churches, and everybody watched the magic movie on the supernatural DVD... the movie told us how to follow the light and let the forces be with us... the movie warned us to watch out for a dude in the dark named Darth Vader who is a servant of Black Sabbath...

after we watched the magic movie, the supernatural DVD went poof and disappeared because Zeus had called for the supernatural DVD to return to the planet Krypton...

everything is crystal clear to us now... we shall follow the road with headlights and beware the darkness of the new moon on cornfields...

I have never been more convinced that you are secretly Charlie Sheen.
OK, RP, you've officially turned me into an Aimee Mann fan.
{#Headache}Too many PSD's for me this morning, must be in a contradictory mood. Have to take a break.

That song is always welcome, one of my all time favorite songs.{#Notworthy}
Chick stoner rock. Yay.
Tall blond woman playing bass and singing like this. Gets my attention.

I love Aimee and most of her work but sadly not this last album. The production grates on me - slick, shiny and for me, without substance.
Interesting. The lead keyboard matches Aimees nasal harmonies, in a good way.
Good for her

No. She's just a whiner.
I gotta tell it like I hear it...this is just not charming me.  4

This song is kind of silly.  It seems to be suggesting that a "charmer" is able to take control of a girl's life.  Well what the hell?  If a woman is taken in by a "charmer" should she be blaming him, or herself?

Seriously people, if you can't spot a "charmer" as soon as he starts charming, it's your own fault.

Gryn,

You must not be familiar with Aimee's songs.  If there is a reason for her to be in pain, she finds it and then writes a song about it.

This is fun!  It's a side by side comparison of the new Aimee Mann video, "Labrador" & 'Til Tuesday's video, "Voices Carry."  I wonder how many of the actors are the same...?

Love it & love the album.
So, should we all strive to be as uncharming as possible?
She's coming to SC in a week.   Maybe I should get some tix ...

New Aimee Mann!!!
Doesn't cover any new ground, but always nice to hear new Aimee Mann!
Excited to receive my copy! As always, great lyrics, great melodic sense!
Not as strong as the material off of 'Whatever' or "I'm With Stupid', but OK. {#Neutral}
{#Yawn}
New Aimee Mann always welcome here.
