Golden light above you, show me where you're from
The magic in your eye bewitches all you gaze upon
You stand up on your hill and they be bop all around you
They wonder where you're from, they wonder where I found you?
Oh, my love, it's a long way
Where you're from it's a long way?
I tried to understand you, I tried to love you right
The way you smile and touch me always sets my heart alight
Your lips are like a fire burning through my soul
And people ask me where you're from? They really wanna know
Oh, my soul, it's a long way
Where you're from it's a long way?
Magic woman wreckin' up my soul
Things you tell me have never been told
Magic woman I don't know
Electric before me I love you so, I love you so
You're racing like a fireball, dancing like a ghost
You're Gemini and I don't know which one I like the most
My head is gettin' broken and my mind is gettin' bust
But now I'm comin' with you down the road of golden dust
Oh my love, it's a long way
Where you're from it's a long way?
The golden light above you, show me where you're from
The magic in your eye bewitches all you gaze upon
Dtand up on your hill and they be bop all around you
They wonder where you're from, oh yeah, they wonder where I found you?

The first single I bought when I was still a kid. A Deep Purple classic. Still like the song very much
i missed this one altogether until now.
now that i got my face melted off, and feel like i took a bunch of speed, (i didn't) i realize i really like this. and omg - that cover art. beautiful!!

I heard this for the first-time last night. All I kept saying to my wife was "Listen to those drums." I had no Idea this song existed, and Classic Rock is my genre. Love it!
Yeah! See? this is what play to those like me who only hear those two songs they do!
I love this band! Straight-ahead, loud, raucous, with that growling Hammond B-3 organ, and lyrics that appealed to me at 13 years old.
Ironically, after years of music school and mediocre skills on three instruments over both clefs, and 50 more years of life, ... I still love Deep Purple!
Roll down the windows, stomp the accelerator, and TURN IT UP!

1. The world's spin is fueled by mondegreens.
2. The first manned mission to Mars will run on non-stop playing of Pearl Jam's unintelligible "Yellow Ledbetter."
3. Revel in your naked ignorance.
Best thing about RP - a song I lived with all my youth but never knew the words and invented some... now I can see the actual words... a bit embarrassing what I thought they were

One of my favorite Deep Purple songs, along with Anyones Daughter also on album
Awesome synchronicity, RP! I was just listening to "Highway Star," remembering and writing about what a kick it was to push the pedal and peg the speedometer in my '70 Cutlass with this band jamming loud on the stereo and my buddy Rich G. (R.I.P.) riding shotgun.
never heard until now. good song
Love theKleptones' excerpt in 24.
I heard that Ian Gillan Jesus scream in there!!!
Why do we not hear much of 80s Deep Purple, like "Perfect Strangers"? Is the later era not considered as good?

Paice is great on this!
After 40 years of listening to this, I still reckon there is no better rock drum intro than this. Still gets to me.
Paice is great on this!
Well, that got the toes tapping 8^)
Good Tune!
Excellent!
wow
this almost sounds punk...Ramones

Well, not sure how many times I'd be willing to endure this...
More tambourine!
This sounds amazing with B&W headphones and 3 liters of beers
Extra point for the band/sperm image on the album cover.
The Purple always gets a 10! Shockingly, i think this band is actually underrated. Shold have been in the Rock HoF a LONG time ago.

It is a brilliant intro. I dabble a bit on the drums and I must confess I couldn't replicate what Paice is playing as long as my bottom points downwards.

Love the song.

Reminds me a bit of "Radar Love" by Golden Earring. (And I know it preceded RL!)

This band's philosophy, style never changed. Metal first of it's type, vocals strong and so original
Richie Blackmore kills it on this album

Thanks RP. This is possibly their most diverse album - noteworthy for the quirky little country style gem "Anyone's Daughter". Thanks for the memories.
More Deep Purple!
Lazy..?
Great choice Bill! I think Deep Purple may be a acquired taste for some, unless you grew up in the early 70's like some of us did.
Well alright...it's a toe tapper
That was very satisfying to hear.
Been a long time.

Huh. I actually like a number of old Deep Purple songs, but I wouldn't call this one of their best, and it seems an odd choice for RP.
My general disdain for Deep Purple hasn't altered over the decades.
I love it when Bill gives us a peek into what he listens to when he isn't feeling quite so chill . Rock On! This was a fantastic album!
Gotta love a Hammond!!
Gotta love a Hammond!!
Wow how many years since I last heard this track?
One of the soundtrack of my youth.
Still worth a 9.
Excellent for speaker exercise .

Yes.
Listening to on an 8track over and over again in a Vega. Thems were the days.

Speakers are struggling as the rock onslaught continues.
I doubt that this can be considered a praise to the music of the Band Deep Purple ..... but it is a good start...lol

It gets an 8 if only for the album cover.

I played grooves into this song on the lp when I was in high school. There are a lot of good songs on this album.
NICE!!!
