Feet don't fail me now
Take me to the finish line
All my heart, it breaks every step that I take
But I'm hoping that the gates,
They'll tell me that you're mine
Walking through the city streets
Is it by mistake or design?
I feel so alone on a Friday night
Can you make it feel like home, if I tell you you're mine
It's like I told you honey

Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough
I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Let's say goodbye
Road's long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime

Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words
This is the last time
'Cause you and I, we were born to die

Lost but now I am found
I can see but once I was blind
I was so confused as a little child
Tried to take what I could get
Scared that I couldn't find
All the answers, honey

Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough
I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,

Let's say goodbye
Road's long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime

Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words,
This is the last time
'Cause you and I
We were born to die
We were born to die
We were born to die

Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane

Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough

What a weird - borked even - way to look at music, never mind listen to it.  Who cares who paid for the producers and publicists?  Do you think that, for example, the Beatles saved up their pocket money to afford these things?  No, they were paid for by the record company.  If LDR's father paid for her to get her foot on the ladder, then that's a bit 'nepo', but she's more than proved her worth as an artist in her own right since.

Agreed. And will add I give her points for getting up and out and doing something even though daddy is rich. Many are lazy do nothings.

Very fascinating and talentuous girl. Her songs make me thrill.

Yep, too right. Same thing with Dido.

I like it and I like the variety we get on RP.

hadn't heard this before & was reading thro the comments while the song was playing, thinking 'whats all this stuff about a dog'?
if you're doing the same, i can say - it'll all become blindingly obvious after the song finishes, so just wait for it & it'll all become crystal clear.
And if you're anything like me, it'll make you laugh too  . .
cheers!
Why, every time I press the PSD button, it plays Dire Straits or Led Zeppelin?

And yes, that golden retriever gave full voice to his disapproval again.

So the question remains: why is RP playing this woman if the owner/dj is so underwhelmed by LDR?

Utterly generic. Although coming hard on the heels of Bjork, that's not all bad.

My teenage daughter's favorite musical artist and I like this song.
I was just thinking why she gets sooo much flack.  It's like, what if Lindsay Lohan sang....
Perfect, she gets me in a perfect state of mind the more I listen to her.
Seen her live in Düsseldorf Germany, and she is a sweet girl as well.
Seems her voice follows the music in a slow mystical way, mmm.

1st Prize for Best Comment.

Beautiful woman, somewhat interesting voice that could get better with training. But the lyrics, the overblown arrangement, the whole marketing of Lana—someone needs to fire the committee that foisted all of this on us.
So this is Lana Del Rey? Huh, for some reason I thought she'd be taller.
How about something more refreshing?

Just give her a fair shake, people.   Give her a chance.   This chick has talent.  Not great talent, granted.  But talent, nonetheless.

(no, I don't mean literally grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking the crap out of her, though I think that is what most would like to do)
There's a new star!
LOVE this song. In fact, I love the whole album. It wasn't love at first hear, though. It was a slow growing love. Another awesome track on the album is "Radio" (number 9, I believe). Would love to hear that on RP!
This is not a really bad song compared to 90% of what I heard on the radio when the lads came to build my fireplace....well...what I heard on the radio when the lads came to build my fireplace was 8 hours a day of exactly the same pop crap, so....damning with faint praise? I didn't want to, really.
Well, at least she can admit that she wasn't born to sing!
So was everyone else, Lana.  Your point is....?
 I agree.

Had a completely delayed reaction to this comment.  When I read it last night, I thought, "oh, there must be a flying saucer in the background on the album cover" and never bothered to actually look.

Then, while sitting at a stop light today and listening to the song (which I do like, actually) it totally hit me and I started giggling in my car.  Yes, I am slow, and unashamed.

But, thought I would share.  Thanks for the chuckle.
Aw crap. I was hoping Bill wouldn't "discover" LDR. She's been overplayed everywhere else and I just don't think she's that talented or original.

This song, for example, is derivative as hell. The lyrics are made up from phrases from other songs: feet don't fail me now, take a walk on the wild side, let me kiss you in the pouring rain, I can see but once I was blind. And, I'm pretty sure the melody of the chorus is straight from something by A Fine Frenzy.

Yeah. Thisounds very manufactured...paint by numbers...Lana's more interesting when she putsome passion in her voice, but the world-weary melancholy feels like an act.

I know some of you don't want to read negative comments on RP but really: where else can you debate the merits of an artist or song with such an eclectic, informed group? It should be OK to write about your dislikes as long as you have something intelligent and non-abusive to say.

Steely Dan used to make me grit my teeth, kremfresch, but now I love 'em. Dunno when or where or how that happened.

I don't get this Lana Del Rey thing — do I need to listen to the words to find some value here for me?   She sure doesn't sound like any sort of extraordinary talent to mee.
Yes, she's a very good singer.  Yes, the songs are well written for the most part.  Yes, she has taken way too many Valium and has the emotional content of a comatose seal.

Lana Del Rey has the Industry Machine working for her. Her success is guaranteed, regardless of music quality (which, incidentally, I don't think is terrible)

Uh, this was meant as a reference to the song lyrics, nothing about the artist when I said:

"Definitely born to die if a flying saucer is hovering with obvious noises in the background."

But the background "stuff" on this piece seem ridiculous.

This is the first time I've heard her sing after hearing so much about her, not bad.

I don't think she's going for much emotion here, especially given the song title.  Not an outstanding tune, but not bad either.  I don't detect much auto-tune - at least not used to accentuate any high notes or sustains - since doesn't seem to be much of those in this song.

What a strange choice to pick someone with such a weak voice to sing on an obviously manufactured song.

Almost as bad as James Blunt (but at least he can sing).
