I've been working on my rewrite
That's right
I'm gonna change the ending
Gonna throw away my title
And toss it in the trash
Every minute after midnight
All the time I'm spending
It's just for working on my rewrite
Gonna turn it into cash

I've been working at the car wash
I consider it my day job
'Cause it's really not a pay job
But that's where I am
Everybody says the old guy
Working at the car wash
Hasn't got a brain cell left
Since Vietnam

But I say help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you!
I'd no idea
That you were there
When I said help me, help me, help me, help me
Whoa! Thank you
For listening to my prayer

I'm working on my rewrite
That's right
I'm gonna change the ending
Gonna throw away my title
And toss it in the trash
Every minute after midnight
All the time I'm spending
Is just for working on my rewrite, that's right
Gonna turn it into cash

I'll eliminate the pages
Where the father has a breakdown
And he has to leave the family
But he really meant no harm
I'm gonna substitute a car chase
And a race across the rooftops
When the father saves the children
And he holds them in his arms

And I say help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you!
I'd no idea
That you were there
When I said help me, help me, help me, help me
Whoa! Thank you
For listening to my prayer

Oh, holy crap.  I had to get away from the horrible Paul Simon Regurgitation, so I hurriedly started up "Revolver".  It was the first thing that popped up in my library that seemed "safe" from this crap.  I see that someone else feels like The Beatles are a cure for new Paul Simon.
Could have been the new Decemberists, that's good too.  When you need a strong cure, go to ground.

Val Doonican?! {#Lol}  I haven't even thought of that name in years.
oh Paul......     you have created such masterpieces before....   what happened with this song/album?  It just lacks your artistry.  Perhaps you got in a hurry, or something!?
Sorry to disagree with the other comments, but this is just more Simon twaddle that sounds exactly the same as everything else he's written since his traumatic brain injury or whatever it was that made him forget how to write songs. The (bad) whistling is just the cherry on top—apparently he's going after the Val Doonican fans.

He really should retire and rest on his past glory, of which there is much.
Nice enough, I suppose, but so reminiscent of earlier Paul Simon songs that I feel like I've heard it before.
Paul Simon's lyrics - amazing...he is an artist.  Working on my rewrite.  Nice!

I just have to get this album. Every song I hear from it is delicious.
