I'm glad some people are more discerning of this old sailors ditty, catchy though it is.

man you gotta get out more often, music was invented to make people dance

You're rather free with those ratings, and just because it makes you dance?

For the good of the group I'm going to average this out with a big fat zero ..... ok, a one then.

i give you 5 really good reasons:

hendrix - all along the watchtower
marvin - grapevine
beatles - twist and shout
jeff buckley - hallelujah
aretha - respect

I can think of many reasons to like a cover.  One of my faves is Superman by REM, and I STILL have never heard the original.  The difference is Buddy Holly's songs were MAJOR hits.  And these sound zactly the same!!  (context: today this comes right after a Los Lobos cover of Buddy Holly and I am of course referring to their cover of this tune)
Amazing that this hit the RP playlist so recently.

This is the first I have heard it here.  I have heard the Los Lobos version many times here.  I suppose if you compared the two versions, one could prefer one to the other (I cannot tell the difference, except subtle).  In my opinion, in a case like this, the Los Lobos version would never get played.  I firmly believe the original should always be preferred to covers unless there is some really good reason.
