This is not a challenge,
It just means that I love you
As much as I always said I did.
I was wrong.
I have been laughable wrong
Sandpaper, paper mâché, chalk, and hung out wet
Oh, the city and your skin
now, now, now, now, now, now, now.
I didn't have to be afraid,
I didn't have to feel so stupid
I can see myself, I can feel
That just the slightest bit of finesse
I might have made a little less mess
But it was what it was,
Let's all get on with it, now!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Laughing!
Discoverer!
Floating across Houston.
This is where I am.
I see the city rise up tall.
The opportunities. And possibilities.
I have never felt so called.
Remember the vodka espresso night of discovery
Remember that? Laughing! Discovery!
Oh how I look back and reflect.
How I felt it. How It set.
I don't have to feel so wrong,
now I wake up dreaming saffron, turmeric and brass.
Just the slightest bit of finesse
I might have made a little less mess
But it was what it was,
Let's all get on with it, now!
Just the slightest bit of finesse
I might have made a little less mess
But it was what it was,
Let's all get on with it, now!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
Discoverer!
This is so bad I am embarrassed for the band... maybe they will come to their senses on their next album...
Sorry RT. Doesn't look like another album is gonna happen.
This song hurts my ears. Keep Dancin !!
Everybody just ran out of my hotel room screaming and waving their arms over their heads... oh, the horror of this song...
Agreed. The song sucks.
I agree also. And what's up with the 10's? I guess I could be wrong, but a 10?
No. I have a funny way of judging songs. I listen to them and if I like them, I say I like them and if I think it sucks, I say it sucks. This is not rocket science people, I think this song sucks.

I hate to see REM in decline like this......because I've always been such a huge fan. But their Muses have gone away.

They've survived, evolved, and prospered. Yeah, they hit a period where they weren't at the top of the heap and had some backlash (U2's POP era by comparison, anyone?). Some fans, and mainstream non-fans, never get over it.
Well, they certainly haven't aged well on that album cover. What horrible artwork. The distorted image makes all of them look like horror movie zombies!
You say that like it's a bad thing. Actually, that is rather perfunctory-looking cover art, but I guess there's some concept behind it.
I really, really hate "Mine Smell Like Honey" - so, I'm agreeing with romeotuma. This is not the R.E.M. I know and love. Evolution is great, but when a group evolves to the point where it's reinventing fire, it's time to move aside and let other bands claim the mountain. *sigh* Off to listen to "Reckoning" again...

This isn't bad.
Surprisingly good actually coming from REM circa 2011.

As a fan of R.E.M.'s forever, I am not happy that I have to disagree with you... this is no fun at all... but their new album sux... in fact, it is the perfect example of self-indulgence and egomania from a band well past its prime... here is a review that exemplifies my own attitude about the new album... again, I wish I agreed with you, and I have immense respect for your open-minded statement—
To paraphrase from R.E.M.'s catalog, new lead track "Discoverer" seems "Out of Time" and out of step with what the rest of the music world is doing in 2010... I guess I gave them a little too much leeway and tolerated how the band transformed from jangly, Byrdsian folk rockers into Michael Stipe's ever evolving showcase of meaningless non sequiturs and Peter Buck's pseudo experimentalism.

RT this new album is getting great reviews and acclaim. Granted music is a personal thing (to your ears) but give it a few more spins round the old turntable and you may find you grew Happy Ears... You know what they say about Rome, ok, so I don't either, but sometimes familiarity breeds Happy Ears ...keep the faith as REM has kicked ass for many years now.

I love R.E.M., and it is shocking how bad this new album is... such a disappointment...

I like the power chords in the chorus, but the iambic pentameter of the melody sounds most like a dog barking, and the lyrics suck... I love R.E.M., and it is shocking how bad this new album is... such a disappointment...
Ok, REM hangers on who still claim they are great, here is the absolute proof they are not, when they lose RT, they have truly lost it!

No, their first five albums didn't sound like this at all.
but it sounds as if a lot of people think it´s just hip or cool to bash them. that´s ridiculous.
for me, the song sounds really okay at first hearing. i´m not yet sure if it is a masterpiece, but this will take some time, as with al good music: it does not give itself away at the first glance
all the noise, half the melody
Its like they took their various previous riffs and sounds and put it into a blender, and got nothing better out of it...
Pretentious spinal tap phase of the career...
Hey!! WTF!?!?

Yes, sounds very much like that. Only more on the annoying Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi side. Monster was a really bad experience for me....
They need to give art rock or something different along those lines a try.

Agree!!
No crush with R.E.M. - at all!
Stupid!
This is another one from their huge bullshit-pile!

The only thing I don't like about this song is the name. Discover..er, doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. And it sounds like the name of an automobile. Introducing the new Ford Discoverer.
Not quite.
Did you note the release date? 2011?
The whole CD is going to be released in 2011 but this track is a free download from the band's official website: https://remhq.com/.

Hopefully no one jumped off the balcony?
(And yes, this song blows big time.)
