Serve God, love me and mend
This is not the end
Live unbruised we are friends
And I'm sorry
I'm sorry

Sigh no more, no more
One foot in sea, one on shore
My heart was never pure
You know me
You know me

And man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing
Oh man is a giddy thing

Love, it will not betray you
dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be

There is a design, an alignment, a cry
Of my heart to see
The beauty of love as it was made to be

Love, it will not betray you
dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be

There is a design, an alignment, a cry
Of my heart to see
The beauty of love as it was made to be

Love, it will not betray you
dismay or enslave you, it will set you free
Be more like the man you were made to be

There is a design, an alignment, a cry
Of my heart to see
The beauty of love as it was made to be

Giving it a chance, need to be honest about such things....

Ok, gave it 90 seconds. It's crap.
One of the most horrible things I've ever heard.
The first time I heard them I thought they were okay.  I was thankful that they didn't sound like everything else on the radio.  But then I heard them over and over again.  This reminded me of every other band I can only listen to a few songs every few months, and anything beyond that is WAY too much.  I still love the variety on radio paradise more than any other station ever.  Play on!
I look forward to hearing this so I can rant again about how truly awful it is.
lol What could I possibly add?  Sounds like.......
They used to be Eh, now they're Yuck.
Numbford & Sons
Thank you again, Bill..........I see it has become cool to say that Mumford & Sons sucks, now.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate your ignoring all this and playing what you think is good.  I don't like every selection, but you have great taste and I hope you just keep doing what you are doing.....
Please make it stop!!! Truly awful
on paper I should really dislike them, but I love this album.
{#Beat}
Not nearly as sorry as this sounds.... PSD
I don't care what anyone says about the Mumfords.  I like this CD.  Their follow up was just meh.  BTW I bought this CD before they exploded in popularity.  I think RP had something to do with their popularity too.

That's a good one!
Quaint.  Precious.  And not in a good way.  {#Skull}  I think of moving it from 3 > 2, but 2 and 1 get reserved for stuff that's in the trash department, you know, really bad as in needing to mute the sound, and this isn't quite there ... yet.
Maybe they would sound better, if I were really drunk.
What a horrible song

thank you thank you thank you - I so needed this right now!
still suck.
Mumford & Sons are growing on me.
keep them coming... but please, thistle and weeds!
Where's the -1 rating?
I can mute that tune in 3 notes!
Banjoes = instant 7

This song is growing on me
Another egregious rip-off of Mumford & Sons, oh...wait...
I must be from the future then, because I have been bad mouthing all of their songs and rating them all 1 since I first heard them.

I don't call that music snobbery.

How the heck can you "ingest self absorption and smugness" from listening to music??  And if you don't like that the radio stations ram music down your throats, do what I do - just don't listen to the radio.  Simple.

I've heard some church choirs that kicked Satan's butt.

Now, if someone would only do that to the Mumfords.....

Props for the Python ref.  Nee!

No props for this song, though.

I'm sorry I had to hear Mumford and Sons.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII'm sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryy
Why do you play this? Who are these people? What did I do to deserve this onslaught of drone?
This band are starting to grate.

This just went from Ho-hum to Marginal. Number 2 with a bullet.
you're sorry....
An album with a lot of great songs! Very powerful and emotional. Comforting in bad times.
This song here is not the best one, just a starter giving a glimpse of what to come.
brilliant
horrible singing :-((
Over exposed, smugness and public school toffs may well be true.
But I still enjoy most of the songs from this album, especially from a musical perspective, this is not one of the better tracks though.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...

That one line reminds me of Pooty Tang.

Sigh no more? Auto-sigh when this bunch of toffs comes on. In the car yesterday I was relistening to proper folk rock in the shape of New Model Army, going back to the 80s when class war was a daily in-yer-face reality. Radical and angry folk rock, as it should be, not de-fanged and de-classed as M&S do. (This is no ordinary recuperation/commodification, this is a M&S recuperation...). NMA would show up this bunch of public school posers for what they are and, as those across the Pond might say, would kick their donkey bigtime.

Fair point. But there is a certain amount of self absorption and 'smugness' that you can't help but ingest when you listen to this. I know what you mean about how success breeds contempt, and I enjoy most of what I've heard from these guys, but this particular tune has a bit too much of a church-social/funereal sound to me - especially that prolonged intro.

I'm filing these guys as a guilty pleasure.  I don't know if the youthful earnestness is what does it for me, or maybe the lively banjo picking, or even the folk on coke sound...  something about it is just fun for me.

That being said, I do not own this album and do not intend to buy it.  I'll just enjoy what I hear when I hear it and be happy for it.  I think if I could listen to a whole album of this, I'd get burned out pretty quickly.

They are pretty good overall, but I don't like this one except for the banjo.

I can't apologize for enjoying this.
Band has balls...just saying.
A year and a half into this, still think this is the best new band in a decade. Crazy talent.

Even better live.
So most say they dislike Mumford and Sons.  I'm going to disagree...they are real.  AND...the music really grows on me.  I'm going to have to say that they are underrated.

Mumford & Sons - "Sigh Sing No More"  ftfy...

I'm about ready to add them to the Tom Waits Hall of Fame.  One of a handful of RP regulars that makes me want to cut my connection to the internet.

Play no more, no more..
Mumford & Sons suck.  Hard.
underrated
Overrated.
I like the very beginning and when the tempo picks up, but otherwise I agree with many others that this song goes nowhere fast. I am torn about the singing, both love and hate it.

Someone described them, I think, as "posh West London Fleet Foxes tribute band". Made me laugh.

Except William Shatner is funny and does his 'covers' with tongue firmly in cheek. This bunch of nobs take themselves super-seriously. If there's going to be nu-nu-folk played, I'd rather it were The Decembrists.

Just saw Mumford and Sons at Bonnaroo.  Yes, I agree they are sometimes frustratingly earnest.  I still like them and they are very good live.
When RP first started playing this band I liked what I heard but its gotten old pretty fast....
Not my taste!
I literally LEAP to the volume control to shut out those ghastly voices.

They're the chapel choir for what ??    The Cult of Gargling with Gravel  ??

Oh... my.. god... these guys are like the William Shatner of music. Every word and note is so f___ing precious and important.  I say this all the time when my adorable son goes out of his way to be adorable: "Hey Theo, you've got the job, you can stop auditioning already." Except in the case of Mumford and Sons I have to ask, "Who are YOU trying to impress?"

Waaaayyyyyy too much air time for this band.  For those of us who seldom listen to normal commercial radio:  Just like The National, M & S are all over broadcast radio, regular phenoms.  Despite all that popular support, both bands seem similarly uninteresting to me.  Sorry 'bout that.{#Sleep}

I like their style of music, but it seems to me they're kind of a one trick pony.  Am I right on this, or have I just not heard enough of their songs?

Is he singing "My mind is a Guinea Pig"?. The banjo playing is excellent but doesn't fit with this song...

It just jells.
I'm sorry, but I really don't enjoy, nor am I moved by, this song.
I really like this band, but not sure why they are so much more popular then The Avett Brothers, who play similar music.  The Avett brothers are a great band, especially in concert.
I really hope the huge success of this album does not set them back in some way.  It seems to me that most of my long time favorite bands take a while to rise to success.  Only time will tell.
Intensity abounds with this band, still tasting... not sure yet.
I have this album, but I am still trying to figure out how much I like them.
Mumford & Sons concert from May 2010 on Baeble. I watched it last night on the Roku box' Baeble channel.

I have pretty wide-ranging musical tastes, but I actually turn the sound down when these guys are played.
For a moment there, I thought he was singing, "Old man is a guinea pig."  If his old man's a guinea pig, then logically, that would mean that his mother smells of elderberries.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time.

UGH.  Enough Mumford already...

They're all part of the 'nu nu-folk' movement - another in that genre would be the Decemberists. A genre that's getting old already, and will be past its sell-by a year or two from now, IMO. I certainly can't be doing with this lot - a bunch of toffs rehashing folk songs written by peasants and workers. Bleucch!

Ditto The Decembrists.
Edit: I read recently that M&Sons are a bunch of public-school toffs. Not that I expect them to be horny-handed sons of toil, but Eton's a long way from the tilling fields of folk music.

Just a word of explanation in Fred's post, "public school" in Britain refers to what we call private school over here.  Exactly the opposite meaning.

I'll give them a second chance, but for now, I'm not going to even rate them. In fact, I think I'll switch from RP to my own playlist (which, in fact, DOES include a lot of Craig Chaquico's solo work, and a bunch of Charlie Sexton's stuff.)  Love you, RP, but sometimes you just flummox me.

I'm a non-believer, too, but don't see any reason to dislike Mumford & Sons whom I've been a fan of for 3 years. I hate to put this rather bluntly, but rather than trying to get Bill to stop playing what he wants, you always have the option of not listening. That way the rest of us can still enjoy it.

All their songs have the same recipe. guy sings, no instruments, intro banjo, bring the noise with the banjo, intro all other instruments, everyone sing and play instruments, stop, silence, repeat.

Funny, I was listening to this CD today and I did notice something a bit hymnal as you say.  Still, I don't think you are being fair to their music.  As a fellow atheist who listens to Bach, Handel, and Gregorian chant, I am not sure what the issue is in any event.
