don't want to borrow your car
don't want to meet your ma
don't want to hold your hand
or have you come see my band
just lay me down

don't want no sweet talking
don't want no moonlit walking
don't want to reminisce
about our first kiss
just lay me down, lay me down

about what's not going right
but while we're still being sweet
there's just one thing I need

don't want to know your past
'cause this ain't going to last
don't want to talk to your friends
while we're this close to the end
just lay me down, lay me down
don't want to borrow your car
don't want to meet your ma
don't want to hold your hand

It's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world.
(Except for Lola.)

I don't think it's supposed to be sexy. she just wants to get laid.
Just imagine a guy singing...

I ain't lookin' to compete with you
Beat or cheat or mistreat you
Simplify you, classify you
Deny, defy or crucify you
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you

No, I ain't lookin' to fight with you
Frighten you or tighten you
Drag you down or drain you down
Chain you down or bring you down
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you

I don't want to fake you out
Take or shake or forsake you out
I ain't lookin' for you to feel like me
See like me or be like meI don't want to meet your kin
Make you spin or do you in
Or select you or dissect you
Or inspect you or reject you
All I really want to do
Is baby be friends with you
Only 5 - D e c e n t from me

A human being singing about a human need - gender has nothing to do with it.

I glanced at the cover art for this song and it reminded me of Mars Needs Guitars. So I put them together to compare. Hmm. Nope. Sorta.

Well you could buy it from your local record shop, if one still exists. CD quality beats MP3 hands down, plus you get the cover art and a physical copy which'll last for ages (files have a tendency to corruption), and you can play it in your car without having to burn a shedload of MP3s to CD.

It is out on mp3 now and I got two CDs by this group...I truly believe in the digital revolution...now everyone around the world can enjoy the greatest things in the world for very low cost and very little harm to the environment...and with the cloud they are stored for good

I think it's pretty clear.
Another in a great string of songs. These runs are what makes RP fantastic.

like it. a lot.
The lyrics take me back to the 60s and the summer of love. Unfortunately, I didn't arrive until the 70s, but I can still remember the fantasies...
Oh, go on then. . . but can you ask your man friend to leave the room.

This is one seriously sexy song, and always gets me 'down there' {#Devil_pimp}

Splendid cover art
I prefer their first album.

Plenty of of passion in the words though. My take is that her voice is sultry. . . and in respect of the content of the song, that works for me!

I agree. Her style here reminds me of Margo Timmins of the Cowboy Junkies. I like it.

Wow - out of 223 ratings, no one HATES this song! Amazing.
I mean, I like it.
I hadn't heard this group prior to RP, and bought their other album and just love it. Terrific band!

Nice live version HERE

As an Aussie livin in the UK I'm still thanking you bigtime for this band Bill.  Bought both albums and absolutely love them.  And for the person silly enough to ask what its about then yes it means shut up and f@ck and it would appear to be getting said to an ex.
I think it means, shut your pie-hole and sex me up.

this is actually bloody good.  Must buy the album.
The song is very good (I gave it a 7), but it's been overplayed at RP in the last weeks. And overplaying can kill a tune...

You really need to ask?

It's rather obvious isn't it? Or is that just me?

Really like this, how is the rest of the album?

The rest of the album is very good. I must admit that after the first spin, I thought I was going to be disappointed because Between Last Night and Us was so good. The banjo seems to be a little more subtle on this one. After a few spins, I really liked the album. There is not a bad song on it. My personal favs are Chelsea Blues, When the Flood Comes, and Small Things.

I recommend this CD, but if you only can buy 1 Audreys album, get Between Last Night and Us.

This song is outstanding. Should go with Erin McKeown's "A Taste of You."
Huh, thought it was Jenny Lewis.
Really like this, how is the rest of the album?

nuff said and said well too, hard to get the tune out of your head or the idea lol

So glad this album is finally on RP! {#Clap}

As someone who used to suffer agonised conversations before/after sex, going on 'til the early hours of the morning when all you really want is some decent kip, I can sympathise with the sentiments of this song. Less yak, more sex. Bugger the romance, the existential angst, the 'where are we going' agonising, just get down and dirty :). 7 from the Nottingham jury.
Taasha has a great voice and they put on a fantastic live show, if you get the chance see the Audreys live.
Great song!
I was wondering when this was going to hit RP.  Thanks, Bill!
