Heheheh.

Too many notes? Whaaat? This is simply *awesome* both from a virtuosity and musical perspective.

Okay, so there's something about part of the guitar at the beginning of this that sounds like the riff in the song "A-Punk" by Vampire Weekend. Anyone else hear it, or am I just hearing things?

Yes, I hear hat too.

I cringe at the idea of where he keeps that third hand...
IcouldplaythatbutIdontwanna...........
No Way I think Chet Atkins is sitting in with him....LOL! {#Guitarist}
Got a chance to see him live a few weeks ago.  Incredible.
Plays bass, rhythm, melody and percussion all at the same time on one guitar.
you've got to see it in person to believe it.  Great show.
Short clip of one of his songs earlier that day.
Tall Fiddler
First heard this song on RP as my  introduction to Tommy Emmanuel.
Wrote  down the name of the song and looked him up  when I heard it.
That happens a lot on RP,  Thanks Bill

re.  tarded.  holy smokes.
Holy moley ........................ this guy is friggin crazy go nuts good {#Good-vibes}
If you like the amazing technique on display here, check out Don Ross on any of his "heavy wood" albums.
Emmanuel has extraterrestrial guitar skills. I see people talk about missing the 'relates-to-me...'  touch in his music -that's the same reason I can't listen to Malmsteen or Satriani - well, that's why there are many genres of music (you can't expect much of these with, let's just say, ambiental music). It's not 'designed' to summon these emotions. I don't listen to to his music on daily bases too, but being a guitarist myself, I bow to the guy - 10.  {#Notworthy}

Impressive!

I like feeling like this.

People, you have GOT to watch this! The man is beyond amazing... Thank you, Calypsus_1.  I really think he's probably forgotten more about guitar than Eddie Van Halen ever learned. Awesome. {#Notworthy}

OMG, that is some rockin' guitar playing.  I just googled him to find out where I can see him live.   Totally awesome.  Thanks for the link.

Day-am - my fingers hurt just from LISTENING to his playing. What a great talent - and I'd love to see video of him playing... Calypsus_1, where are you?? {#Mrgreen}
That was amazing.
I've listened to an awful lot of Tommy's music and seen him twice live. I'm a guitar tyro and my wife doesn't play at all. In a way Tommy has those songs that simply show off his unparalleled technical mastery (this song is an example, as well as "Guitar Boogie") and those songs that bring a level of feeling, emotion, and simple joy in the music. These brought my wife (a hip hop and R & B listener, mostly) to tears.

A few links to youtube videos of the latter type:

(Angelina, written for his daughter)
(Those Who Wait, my favorite)
(Since We Met)

Well... I play the guitar for about 2 years now... I know i catch on pretty quick but this is a totally different case. For this guy somehow the word guitarist isn't enough... It's really strange, it's more than just playing what he does, it's as if his hands/arms function in a total different way compared to any other guitarist... Technically i'd say (MHO) he's the best "guitarist" out there...
However, to me, such fast and complex pieces of music totally lose the feeling of the music behind it... It just gets on my nerves and after a couple of minutes i really need to hear something that communicates with me, not something that just launches hundreds of chord progressions and scales AT me...

So... Hearing a Tommy Emmannuel song every now and then is great, but no more than that for me....

Excellent response. Very well-stated. I couldn't agree more.

He's a guitar wizard and great performer and entertainer. Saw him few years ago. Half of the audience were guitar players and they just stared at his fingers. He is like an ultimate genius and beyond reach of mere mortal guitar players.
Those are some wicked licks. Nice.
Wow. Thanks for the smile you put on my face with that song! {#Yes}

Tommy has been around for so long you forget the body of work he has produced, he first went on the road at age 6 years..  Here is a transcript of a interview he recently did.  https://www.abc.net.au/talkingheads/txt/s1587113.htm
