I went to see Bill Cosby at Blossom Music Center with my best school buddy and his parents - we weren't old enough to drive yet. Following Cosby's performance, we stopped someplace - probably a mall, and there was a record store. I was a huge Spirit fan ever since I first heard "Fresh Garbage" and whenever I walked into a record store, I went right to the "S's" to see if there was a new Spirit album.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the black LP cover with CLEAR SPIRIT in the familiar Spirit font type in the bin. I'm not sure how I came up with the $3 or $4 to buy it, but I did. I held it all the way back home and, of course, played it through after arrival. I wasn't too keen on first listen - especially these slower, orchestrated themes, but over the next few weeks I continued playing both sides and loved it as much as their first two LP's.

Hey Dougie, we had great times, didn't we?

Damn. Them's were the days.

NB. Just found Blossom schedule for late August 1969. Janice played the night before The Coz. Seats were $2.50.

Cool story.  Thank You for sharing it!
Wow created 1969. Sounds fresh and emotional. Good music for the nice people who listening RP.
I haven't commented in awhile - so just thought I'd pop in and say how much I love the band Spirit. Would love to here a coupe of cuts from their Mercury years - like "Diamond Spirit" or "Farther Along or "Colossus". Thanks Bill!!

4 years later - going up 1 to an 8 rating.
I think you have to have the correct listening environment to appreciate this fully.
Of course state of mind goes without saying.

Set and setting.  Applies to many aspects of life, my friend.  I vote 8 without the slightest hesitation.
First time, and hopefully the last time, I've heard this. As I was listening I found myself subvocalizing "blah, blan, blah-blah, blah". Or, trouble sleeping? Try this instead of melatonin.
Watched the movies "Model Shop" and "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" back-to-back one weekend. Found it very interesting. Spirit did the music of "Model Shop".

A sliver of this played during a public service announcement on the TV back in the '70s, and it burrowed into my memory where it stayed for decades, long after that spot stopped airing.  Never had heard it anywhere else.

Then, as it was my procedure as an overnight college DJ, I randomly picked tracks out of the record library to play at 3am... and there it was!

Great story!

You might be hope the food's as good as the tunes.
Nice to hear Spirit again.  One of the more unheralded groups of the late 60's.

I hear Paul Winter Consort.

I think the Ramones would disagree.

Excellent transition from "The Hazards of Love."
Some beautiful, haunting instrumentals on those early Spirit albums.

This is lovely, but it would be better if I was trying to relax or fall asleep, not keep my energy up at work!

Yeah, too bad all songs don't run three minutes on the tape recorder, huh!

Nice.Is it old? Sounds like the soundtrack to something.

This one's about to start its fourth decade.  Released in 1969.

Sounds familiar, I think this was sampled by either RJD2 or Deltron.
Something big must have occurred between this album and the next: "12 dreams of Dr. Sardonicus".
spendid segue excellent piece please keep it in the rotation
Spirit! Outstanding! They don't write 'em like this anymore. The rest of the album is superb also.
...very nice change of pace...
