sometimes I walk around town looking at faces
wonderin why their bodies go to silly places.
Walkin past the carpet mills looking in and takin stills,
your ass it draws me in like a Bermuda highway.
Oh, don't carve me out! Don't let your silly dreams,
fall in between the crack of the bed and the wall.
Two times I fell asleep in a dirty basement
snoozing in cobwebs and the cement.
Sometimes I wonder why that meek guy got all the fame,
maybe im to blame for his short bitter fucked up life.

if you need to hear 'one person's opinion' skip ahead to OK_Sobriquet's take on the lyrics. not dissing anybody but i seem to have a simpler overview of a lot of lyrics, i guess...sounds like a song about a guy looking back at where he started and wondering where he got off track...again, one opinion.
Great to leave it up to your audience, right?

There are Bermudas in lots of places.  It's not just the island.

I think a "Bermuda Highway" is an alcoholic cocktail beverage. I've never had one and don't know how to make it, but I bet it tastes like ass!
Has caused me to get up, turn on the PC and look up what song is played, magical.

Can't wait for next Saturday at the Greek

ogni volta che l'ascolto mi emoziona x la musica e la splendida voce - grande canzone
Here’s a metaphor stretch: Bermuda is world famous for onions (locals even call themselves’ onions’). Onions = Tears Therefore, Bermuda Highway could refer to a Highway of tears. Obscure, yes, but I’ve read worse.

I don't think Jimmy James is singing about the island of Bermuda. Along with no highways, I'd bet it doesn't have any carpet mills* either. I think the setting of the song is the band's home state of Missouri.

My interpretation is he's heartbroken over his girlfriend dumping him for another guy to the point he's completely fallen apart. He's missing the sex too and he's equating that to another favorite thing he likes to do that he's not doing anymore, driving fast. (He's walking around town.)

So, the analogy is a car driving hard and fast down a long, straight, lonely, country road between fields of Red or, Bermuda, onions. The "ass" lyric then makes perfect sense.

One of my favorite bands.

* "Carpet Mill" could be an incredibly funny term for a bikini waxing business. Which would put the "takin' stills" lyric in a different, and kinda' creepy, context so Jimmy's probably singing about actual textile factories.

No, but Hawaii has an interstate highway.
The most wistful vocals I have ever heard. Strangely moving. Thank you B&R.
fantastic.  Stops me in my tracks.
I love that the 'sicko-barfo' crowd up their numbers to 34

Maybe he was thinking "Bermuda triangle" which would kind of make sense - but it didn't scan.
he is a fine singer but the music slightly mechanical  for my ears

I stop to watch the YouTube video, and the fact that is just him and his guitar at Red Rocks is effing amazing. In fact I think this may be the same audio.

7 --> 9

and I just figured out the album title

I couldn't know the lyrics unless I read them here. Jeez.

Sublime.
Certainly no cheap plug-in nor top-end rack can match that reverb on the vocals. Play live or don't play.
{#Hearteyes} that's the reason I listen RP!

Really nice song, but there are no highways in Bermuda.

Yep, this is one of those times when I am for shure against the big market USA which forces artists to sing in English.   I predict RP will change that.   As I have stated here a few times, I am one who champions poetry, but the elements of music most important to me are not lyrical.

I took my wife and kids to the Americanarama show at Shoreline in August.  I would have stayed till the bitter end, but everyone was ready to head out after 3 or 4 Dylan songs, so you made it longer that we did;)  Seeing Bob Weir sing with Wilco and MMJ definitely made it worth the effort!

Great song BTW...

Loved this song - had not heard it before.  MMJ is one of the best live acts in music today.  Period. Of course that's my opinion and you all are welcome to check them out yourself. . .

Sorry, but I don't see the appeal of MMJ. Their music is weak at best.  Now the Monsters of Folk is another story. Those guys rock.
Beautiful. Enough said.

And, even though people drive like maniacs here...there are no highways :-)

My Morning Jacket seems to have a great deal of intense joy in their music - even when the song is sad.  I think that's one of the things I like best about them.

Fu**ing beautiful!

I wonder what they'd sound like without all the echo?

Seems to be their trademark gimmick.
 Bill, nice song but if you go on like this I'm gonna cut my veins this morning! Please play something cheerful for the ones out there now in need like me! thanks
I love this, beautiful.

Thinking the same..WoW.. 8.

I seem to be very into the music today - perhaps because I wrenched my back and have been off work for a couple of days, so with not much to obligate me, I'm listening with both ears. {#Roflol} Lots of good stuff being played, and I'm actually rating songs!  Funny, though - I have a bunch of 7-10 ratings, but the songs I don't particularly care for, I'm not bothering to rate.

This one's getting a pretty high rating - I LOVE My Morning Jacket.  (And I love the group, too.) {#Sunny}

I know you've only been a member for a week, but could you talk/write without referring to your dick. It's offensive and quite honestly, there are plenty of other sites where you can express yourself like this.

Plus, this is Radio Paradise. It's one thing and then another, and then another, and if you don't like it, there are plenty of other places to go and behave poorly.

Like American politics (but that is going to change a little next week), so get in there while your still not as recognizable.{#Naughty}
