Someone that I met but I hardly knew
He said that everyone loves a defective heart
He'd parted ways with diction, this was late last night
He see me getting your affection and it proved he was right
The way I stared off thinking that all was sound

Anyone that I knew they would've called me found

You can break my legs, you can kick me downstairs
But there ain't no getting over Joanie Hale-Maier
Just let me walk away
Ah, let me walk away

And then the place ignite
It's in my face and I'm
Behind the bassline

Someone that I knew but I hardly met
Told me, it's hopeless I'm a slut for the New York Times
She made my heart soft, worn an aiguillette on her arm
She never been to Texas, never heard of King Kong
And it'd been so long since I'd been suitably high

So we did an Airborne, settled in for the night

Tell me sweetness don't somehow reach your heart
Until you fall flat down and you can't wait to start
This is the one cold truth we've all of us known
As I think to myself this could be easy or I could face it alone

And then the place ignite
All out of grace and I'm
Behind the bassline

YES at Revolution! That was a great show. I'm a total Spoon dork - guess you could say I'm a Spork. lol.
this is very groovy. i'm going to have to pick up this recording.
Love that bass line that anchors all those amazing sounds they make!
The talent and passion these amazing jammers bring to every song can floor me every time! Fantastic to see live, too!
Wait wait wait, this ISN'T Cake?

Yanno. ....

I've been here long enough to say,  that I have truly seen seen the faces of the Elder Cave Dwellers here on RP. How long for you @LizardKing?

There is a slow-to-percolate community in this place.  A cob-web thin connection between listeners, all nodding in time, filtering out the cretins and collectively expanding our repetoires and our minds.

Gawd. I love this place.

Transplanted Austinite (from Houston, it's a lateral move), never heard of Spoon until RP, I have to admit, I like 'em, sorta...

Whoops! Just read an earlier post re: sounding like Cake - great minds and all that, I almost made the cake/spoon joke but was more on the licking the cake spoon 😍
I think these guys have a kind of Cake sound. Seem to be a fav of Radio Paradise - not familiar with them. Guess I could read the Wiki.

Yes! Until recently, I assumed that Spoon was from England.  They really do have a Clash-y sound.  Love it.

Following Zep's "The Rover" just illustrates how these influential types have such a powerful legacy.

Something in the wicked witty lyrics catches my ears and mind's eye, every time! I LOVE how they ain't afraid to part ways with diction!

Spot on description!  Except, I like Cake anyway.
First time hearing this. Thought is was Cake at first, as well. You'd eat cake with a fork, so the combination made me think of a spork.
I just love how these guys are as edgy, as weird, as quirky and deep as you wanna go; the way they sing and thrash the music is bliss!

There's a certain segment of the "critics" here that think it sounds cool to bitch, like they know the first thing about the music they shit on.  They remind me of cranky old men who stare out their windows, missing all the mystery out there, just to watch the garbage men take their trash away.

No I won't have that, I'm a cranky old man and I like this track!

Whole album is great!
I've heard the whole CD; a few good tunes but overall not a keeper, IMO.
And yes, this song is very Clash-y.
We took this sound already. Stop. Find your own. Stop. -The Clash

The only well known band to come out of Sac that I know of is Tesla.  And hopefully we'll never hear anything from them here!

It's nice to hear a Spoon song that hasn't been played to death (and hey, I love Spoon) although this is not one of their better efforts

I too was less than impressed when I attended their live show.  They seemed oddly lacking in passion... they executed the songs well enough, but seemed almost withdrawn.  Wasn't sure if it was just me, though.

I saw them at the Mile High Music Fest this summer, and thought they were one of the better bands there.  It helped that they were playing on a smaller stage which made them more accessible.

This song is a tad bit reminiscent of The Clash...maybe it's that sharp downbeat of the guitar, like in Radio Clash.
this is one of my favorite albums...lots of great tunes.

So right after Led Zeppelin... What was right about music in the 70's This is what is right about music today (and there isn't much right about it, especially on this side of the pond where everybody just cares about Emo today). Our European music loving brethren have it so much better with those British rock bands that know what rock still is (read: Supergrass) and all those wonderful Scandinavian songwriters. We've got Fall Out Boy.

Usually RP goes for what I think is the best cut on the album, but in this case I disagree -- I like the sexy "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" on this Spoon record more. A lot more.
