Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Enjoy the silence
Enjoy the silence
Enjoy the silence
Enjoy the silence
Enjoy the silence

Definitely see your point. The perfectly enunciated words are also a bit off-putting. There's no twang or swing to the pronunciation--unusual for a western-style arrangement.

Germans in western garb is a bit jarring. The get it but they don't get it. Studiously imitative tourism. But this a fun take on Depeche Mode!

Agree. this is totally allowed!
WHY WHY WHY did they destory that song!
Absolutely CrUsH ThIs!!!
UndT FrÀ Germany!!

Guitarist and drummer:
Jon Flemming Olsen and Olli Dittrich (Scene from "Dittsche")
I bought the CD based on this track. I'm not sure it's the best on the disc. Texas Lightning is the Western Swing version of Postmodern Jukebox - and that's okay.

I was not expecting to like this. I like this.

Jane Comerford is Australian. So i think English is her native language.
OK  now I'd like to hear Disturbeds' version!
This f’n slaps
Now THIS is what a great cover is all about. They're bringin something new here

Same...I don't know what to do here, so i won't rate it.

 The song is really cool!

It's normal for fuddy duddy americans to criticise DM. They probably don't even  know that this band inspired the East german resistance!
To me - it just shows what an exceptional song this is. It holds up with such different interpretations.

By their git-ups on the cover, I'm thinking Western Swing, but yeah, this band looks (and sounds) like a lot of fun.

I have no idea whether I like or dislike this, but it's giving me the giggles, so that's a plus.

I'll bite and give it a 7.
Witness the power and depth of Bill's humor...
Bill: "You might not like it, but it's for you". That's Radio Paradise in a nutshell. To me PSD sounds like a diagnosis - but that's just me, being introduced to so much incredibly good music that I have missed until now. Never felt the the need to press that button.
pretty cool, they do a good job with this...
Love it!  Classic train beat keeps this cover rolling along nicely.
Of course this will appeal to the American "geist".
My first thought: "Is Tom Petty covering Depeche Mode?!?!"
I think I like this better than the original.
This cover just goes to show that there's always another way to look at something. I had to smile when I heard this. Nice work Texas Lightning. {#Smile}

Or maybe a cross between TP and Brian Ferry?
great cover of an already awesome song.  a good song can stand up to a solid revision like this
I have to say, pleasantly surprised.....
well bill, since you mentioned it, i DO like it.
Sounds as if Russian Bravo group tried to perform DM in their usual style
Well Done!! Pretty sweet cover.
Old Depeche Mode "fan" as well ~ this just hits a different Mood.

That's the attitude, xray38!!  And as a soft core DM fan, I can say I recognize the DM song in this, and might like this better at certain times (like now) - call it a 7.4 for now...Long Live RP!!
Yep!  It works.

It is quite a feat to do something pleasurable from a song by Depeche Mode.
Just for that -> respect!
 The song is really cool!

That was a cheap shot :-)
Some songs are just too perfect to cover. This is a perfect example.

You all knew DMode was rockabilly under the hood, didn't you?

Man, this is just like a soundtrack to a parallel universe!! In this universe they also have the Spice Girls covering Radiohead, and it's raining doughnuts 😀 Not bad at all though!

k Keep up the great cover songs RP. They are one of my favorite things about the best station on earth! 7.5

Crossed with Warren Zevon.

If there is one serious flaw in the Radio Paradise formula, it is Bill's weakness for cheesy cover tunes.

Then do not listen, that is why there is a skip feature!
 Enjoy The Yee-haw!!!
Good one Bill!
I love the drum break followed by the Johnny Cash riff
This cover version is very unnecessary.
i like it.
Love this!
 yup   almost like Tom Petty  {#Clap}ziakut wrote:

Ha ha! I'm going to call this an improvement over the original! {#Bananajam}
Seeing the title and CD cover I was very afraid of the result, but hey... it's not bad at all !
I never heard this before.  I love it!!
Awesomely

A German band, called Texas Lightning, covering the English band Depeche Mode, in the style of, uh, the style of, uh, maybe Western Swing (ish?).

Whatever the heck it is, I like it.
c.
Another genre-busting classic from the RP archives!
This is actually an improvement over the original! Awesome! THIS is exactly what a good cover should be, a reinvention

Very superior 10. DM gets less than.
That was VERY UNNECESSARY.... it can only do harm
Well... If I never hear the original more than once a year, it would be sufficient. I don't dislike it, but there are some songs that get excessive play. Thus, an occasional variant is not so bad and in fact may be enjoyable. This is a worthy rendition.
now that's a cover!!!{#Bananajam}
Interesting! I like the DM original better, but this is pretty good too!
I thought this might be Tom Petty... I like it.
This is awesome!
 So... what do Bob Dylan and Depeche Mode have in common? {#Tongue-out}

Seriously??{#Naughty}

Oh no... ;-)
{#Roflol} Great
Normally not a big fan of covers, but is fun!
Pourquoi pas ! Why not !    {#Ask} {#Yes}
hahaha. I'm a DM fan and i LOVED this. :-)

Not just you.
My daily dose of "if I didn't hear it on Radio Paradise I never would've heard it". Thanks Bill!

This cover is in the middle for me. It's not bad, but if I never heard it again I wouldn't care. Someone asked why a band would do a cover like this. My guess is they liked the song and "because they can". I can't imagine anyone thinking the song was going to take off in any meaningful way.
I'm here for this. I get it.
Is it just me, or does the lead vocalist sound a bit like Tom Petty?
That's hilarious!!!  {#Cheesygrin}{#Drunk}{#Lol}{#Eek}

It's like Bill really likes Depeche Mode songs, just not Depeche Mode. :)

Nope. Tons of Depeche Mode on RP.
Sometimes there are stray characters after titles on the RP app (I'm listening on a Fire Stick - TV audio is run to the stereo), and the title of this was "Enjoy the Silencer." Considering how people like their guns here in Texas, I had to open up my laptop and see if the title was true. {#Biggrin}
Slightly better than listening to Hayseed Dixie murdering AC/DC...

Normally I'm all for Bill's selection of covers, but this is just WEIRD.

But if you'd heard this version first, you might consider Depeche Mode's version weird.
This works. I wouldn't want a prolonged diet of C&W covers of DM but this is alright.
German comedian Olli Dittrich on Radio Paradise ... oh my goodness {#Eek}
I love this, but don't need to hear it again.  Thanks RP.
OMG ! It's even worse than the original {#Eyes}   I'll have to raise the Depeche Mode version to "2" in order to keep "1" for this ...
Bad.
Why? It was perfect the first time. That being said, How can you not like Johnny Cash's Personal Jesus.

This version should not have been recorded.

If I had never heard the original, I may have given this a 6.
But this will go down as a failed cover song.

I've been trying to get Texas Lightning to do a US tour.  They broke up for a while and I think they're back together again.  It would be a fun show.  danagle wrote:

  and there you have it.

This makes me think of the band Luther Wright and the Wrongs, and their cover of the entire album The Wall by Pink Floyd. The whole thing was done in a bluegrass style; it was quite surreal. I highly recommend checking it out!

Now promenade y'all.
I'm sitting here stressing out over insane production schedules, and this comes on and puts me in tears of laughter. Thanks RP! {#Cheesygrin}

Someone needs to upload the A Mighty Wind cover of Start Me Up!

I'm laughing my ass off  right now,,,its actually not bad for a cover...completely different direction
Apparently, a lot of people disagree with me. but I think that this is one of the best covers I have ever heard.  The old school country beat and instruments are an amazing compliment to this song.  Clean and well crafted.  Great stuff!

Love it!  It makes me smile.  {#Smile}
wrrrr horrible cover
This isn't a bad cover, but I prefer the feel of the original.
What made them think that this would be a good idea?
UMM.....Yeah.
In some bizarrre way this reminds me of Busload of Nuns  covering the Bee-Gees "Stayin' Alive".... Not like theoriginal,but surreal.
