Murals make it right, well, how can that explain?
Nobody can tell what the hell they're even saying
No one sees it's easier to change
No one sleeps and no one stays awake
No one complains
And I'll find wherever you go
And I'll help with things you don't know
And I'll get you out of the show
And I'll find wherever you go
It's things you have to give and never come around
There's opportunity to tread instead of drown
Remarks will make the living settle down
They call them markets instead of towns
They like how it sounds
Most of us are wrong
Most of us agree
Must have been the wrong
Message we received
If you gotta choose, I've gotta change
And if you've got the truth, I've gotta trade
And if you've got a feud, I've got a fade
My heart will wear you out
Yeah, my heart will wear you down
Yeah, my heart will wear you down
Yeah, my heart will wear you down

Agreed. All respect to Neil, but Doug is a better guitar player. And, I'd argue a better lyricist. In other words, Doug is crazier.

Didn't give this one much thought when I first heard it... until it stuck in my head the rest of the week! Now I wait for it to air here each time, and give the proper amount of attention. A very interesting composition, that rocks at just the right moments.
Sounds like Neil Young stripped of any talent.

I'm a big fan of Neil ( and fellow Winnipegger ) but this stands alone and is awesome!
I can see the similarities, but these guys have a wider range.

Big Neil influence in the music, big Dali influence for the cover art.

I hope they come through town again! Already feels too long since I saw them. What a show! THREE SCREAMING LEAD GUITARS, loads of talent, wickedly good lyrics; solid wall of rock-jam sound. Their encore was a ripping cover of The Smiths' "How Soon Is Now"

Great jam.
Lots of " sounds like" comments which is not a bad thing. This one deserves a John Lennon mention too.

This song is a mind blow live. Outstanding production in the studio on this one too. Bow down.

If you like this, Built To Spill Live is a must have. "Cortez the Killer" runs over 20 minutes and is still too short.

Way better for my ears than "Paps Bossman Skax"...
WAY BETTER!!!
..this tune was designed to make me slosh my coffee (or other beverage) jumping up to crank it up every time i hear it..it was Built To Spill that way, i suppose..

Hot DAMN this song is good!
Have loved this band for a long time. First time I saw them live back in '99 or so, their encore was a 20 minute jam of Cortez the Killer that was absolutely awesome (there is also a 20 minute version of Cortez the Killer on their 2000 Live album that is definitely worth checking out). Have seen them 3 more times since then, and they were great every time. They always throw in a cover or two live... last time it was Third Uncle by Brian Eno. Awesome!
i like these guys

Bought this album based on the songs that I have heard here. Wow! If you like guitar based rock that has some different stuff going on (aside from the obvious comparison to Neal Young on this one) this album is awesome. Just about every song is as good as this one or better. Quite good.

I saw a triple bill of Built to Spill, Sleater-Kinney, and Sonic Youth at an afternoon outdoor show (Seattle, 1997)—definitely not the best venue for the latter. Anyway, Built to Spill was the best of the three at that show. Luckily, I managed to see Sonic Youth/Two Dollar Guitar later at CBGBs—MUCH better setting for them. I've seen Sleater-Kinney three times live and each time I'm kinda like "eh
." They're better in a mix of other artists.

Nice tune!

Oh, and I've seen them live several times, mostly in the W.O.W. Hall in Eugene, Oregon. They've always pleased a *full house* of music fans, as they are fantastic live! BTW, the WOW is always all-ages, and many of the younger fans don't even notice a similarity to Neil Young. Doug is not necessarily trying to imitate Neil, his voice just happens to be of that quality, and his singing style fits the melodies. If Built to Spill seems to be emulating the style of Neil and/or Crazy Horse, one could say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Nothin' wrong with that!
