Manu Chao is actually pretty sophisticated politically. At least judging from an interview from his appearance on Austin City Limits, and some reading I did. His politics are pretty right on, I think.

That is, unless you prefer a shrinking middle class, a desperately poor working class, homeless and shell shocked veterans discarded as wasted tools of the corporate military / industrial state, steadily falling real wages, exporting the U.S.'s erstwhile middle class foundational jobs to third world / second world countries, the upper two percent of the population controlling 90 plus percent of the nation's wealth (and steadily climbing), second world-standards health care for everyone but the rich, jingoism, racism, zenophobia and cultural / religious / sexual bigotry, denial, denigration and neglect of science and research & development, a rising police / intelligence state, dumbing down of the educational and media systems (and thus a creeping dumbing down of the populace), preemptive (illegal or otherwise) wars for petroleum and other natural resources, a rising tide of Fascism (yes, I know that's a red flag word... go read "The Fourteen Characteristics of Fascism" and tell me that isn't happening here in the U.S.), a social / political minority of "Tea Party" dupes of the corporate ruling class with disproportionate and undeserved influence...

... We could go on and on. Sigh. Some people just don't get it. Would rather be ostriches with their heads in the ground (or up some nether orifice).

The music? not to my liking, but I certainly appreciate the diversity of RP and hope the international flavor will continue, for there are many, many culturaly diverse tracks out there I adore.
