Just watched the movie, Telling Lies in America, and this fabulous heirloom piece is playing in a classic 1961 Diner scene; good thing Bill is NOT the 'Billy Magic' type of sleazy DJ (played to the gleeful hilt by Kevin Bacon in one of his best acts!) and no one is paying to have songs played here! Thanks, RadioParadise, for being for real for us! I love you so much, and I love hearing great tunes like THIS!

Never occurred to me before now, but I suddenly thought that the main theme from Star Wars sounds just like this on steroids. Different key, and lots of horns instead of the sliding guitar, but essentially the same tune....

You get visions of Don "Bubbles" Ho and I get visions of George Hamilton and Delores Hart in "Where the Boys Are".  I saw Don Ho in Hawaii about 30 years ago.  He was "in his cups" and the bubbles flowed.

The song plays during the closing credits of Scorsese' The Departed. Without giving away any plot details, the song is playing while there is a rat on the screen. I think this is a reference to a popular ad campaign currently on TV here in the province of Quebec. The dairy producers of Quebec have used this song in their cheese ads and Scorsese makes a clever, albeit subtle, connection between rats and cheese. Perhaps Scorsese or someone in the crew or DiCaprio saw the ad when they were filming The Aviator in Montreal, liked the music and saw a use for it in the Departed.
