There's somebody waiting alone in the street
For someone to walk up and greet
Here you are all alone in the city
Where's the one that you took to your side
Lonely faces will stare through your eyes in the night

And they'll say
Woman, sweet woman, please come home with me
You're shining and willing and free
But your love, it's a common occurence
Not like love that I feel in my heart
Still, you know that may be what I need

Is someone to lay down beside me
And even though it's not real
Just someone to lay down beside me
You're the story of my life

Just someone to lay down beside me
And even though it's not real
Just someone to lay down beside me
You're the story of my life

Well morning is breaking, the street lights are off
The sun will soon share all the cost
Of a world that can be sort of heartless
Not like love that you feel in your heart
Still, you know that may be all you get

Is someone to lay down beside you
And even though it's not real
Just someone to lay down beside you
You just can't ask for more

My goodness, she sounds like Linda Ronstadt.
Nice - there's a throwback, nice transition from Linda to Karla, both bring back lots of memories.  I hear a bit of Natalie Merchant in that voice now.

I thought I heard "lay down inside me" and I had to come and check the lyrics. Pfft!

Don't do that. She wrote this, and many other jewels. This is a fantastic album, and belongs right next to Late For the Sky.

You should check out anything by the group Bryndle (especially their first album) which features Bonoff, Wendy Waldman, the late Kenny Edwards and Andrew Gold.

Saw Ronstadt with Karla and Wendy doing backing vocals. Just divine.

This album has quite a few gems on it that never saw airplay. Produced by Edwards. Gold, Edwards and Waldman all on it, plus Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Glenn Frey, Ronstadt, John David Souther, etc. (the LA all star studio folks). Damn! 'Scuse me, gotta go put this on the turntable without delay.
Wow, I had this album on wax.. {#Cheesygrin}
I can honestly say I haven't heard of her before today, and I'm amazed that it's from 1977 (it's held up well). I was getting an Aimee Mann vibe from this.

I think I may have bought this album for a friend, because Karla was a popular singer at the time.

Karla Bonoff? Wow, do I feel old.

Hers is a name I haven't heard or seen in a long time.  She was a talent for sure.
Love this song, and think it's held up pretty well, actually. I'm going to play it for my 13 year old and find out.

what a remember when!!

Same here. What? Karla Bonoff! Wait a second. This name comes suddenly out of the dark and I know I've heard it before, but can't remember where.
Fine song by the way.
Excellent cover! {#Music}
this is great. as is rps dedication to inclusion of women artists. too bad so many comments -- when the artist IS female -- are snarky, petty, comparing her to others, dismissive; a totally different filter and standards applied by knee jerk detractors.
I havn't heard this in so long. Thanks
I'd rather hear Linda Ronstadt. She had a better voice.
FleetwoodMacish
On the "Running On Empty" Jackson Browne tour, I had the privilege of seeing her open the show on two nights.

My friends and I were so enthralled we really didn't want Jackson to come on, she was so good.

A few months ago I got a signed copy of her live CD release.

40 years later, I'm still so incredibly fond of her music, including songs like this one.
I haven't heard this song since I lost this album in a divorce. So glad to hear this song again.
{#Clap}     kinda cool ('77 yow-za)
Interesting, I submitted this ages ago on the LRC, got an instant Sorry.
Anyways, always have a soft spot for this album.

i remember this now
sometimes sounds like Carole King

Beginning of this song is eerily similar to Jimmie Spheeris' I Am the Mercury.  Bill, any way you can put those two songs back to back?

Definitely.  Really enjoyed this back in the day, and good to hear again!  Probably have the vinyl somewhere...
I don't know this artist, but Beethoven said good music is a mixture of old and new and he would have liked RP for sure!
what a blast from the past!

Cover? She wrote the song ...
Good stuff. Thanks for adding Karla to the playlist!

RP is the CrackerJack of radio stations—there's always a surprise inside, even if it is an FM staple from nearly 40(!) years ago. Thanks, Bill!
Karla Bonoff? Wow, do I feel old.
Great CD
