We are aimless
And the target is an empty wall
We're out of patience
With smiles that cut across her face

No complaints
But I wish I had more time for my brain
I'd like to walk
Where the sun doesn't know we're awake

We're in spaceships
Take a visit to the Pyrenees
On paid vacations
Send a brochure from the agency

No complaints
But my girlfriend dug a ditch in my room
Walking papers and a hole
Straight out from my shoes

No complaints but it's harder
To believe in the truth
So write a message on a billboard
And I'll send it to you

We feel painless
Check the status on the info line
In some ways tainted
Radiation from the factory

No complaints
But it's overrated, that's for sure
Take a bus back
From Little Rock, Arkansas

Or Modesto
That's where my drawl comes from

in theory, I suppose.  In the courtroom, maybe.  In reality, not.

Fatuous comment, absolutely.

Sounds like the Kinks, kinda. In a good way. Even Becks voice has a Davies sound here.

I agree totally...good observation.

Don't give 2 cents about Beck's religion as long as he does not start peaching it.  Not much of a fan either but thats more because most of his stuff just doesn't do much for me.

Oh, i don't know.  I think I'd like it if Beck would peach his religion.   It could be tasty.  And worth more than 2 cents.

Luckily, the U.S. recogonizes freedom of religion.

Freedom of religion does not apply to dangerous cults.  Scientology needs an enema.

Humm...interesting comment. Just kidding. I know what you mean. I certainly don't know where his focus really is but I've found that it takes spending some time (with each track/CD) to discover the full meaning of his lyrics...kinda like poetry.

I think it's more like abstract art.  You can find your own meaning.  But there is no "true" meaning as such in the majority of his songs.

e.g. "my time is a piece of wax fallin' on a termite who's chokin' on the splinters"

SCIENTOLOGIST!
Yikes, I am getting NO work done this morning thanks to RP and Wikipedia.
After this set of songs, I'm starting to think there might be trouble in Paradise!

I dig the new album, hasn't grabbed me as much as Guero (or Guerolito for that matter) but it is still quality. Gotta respect Beck's use of circuit bent instruments (especially the track "1000 BPM")

Agreed.  Beck is truly a creative and talented artist.  I've been a fan since his debut release.  Concerning the circuit bent instruments, check out this site for more information:

For me, Beck can do no wrong.

It took a while to get into "Sea Change," but everything else he's done has been pure genius!

he's quite the hipster. A great dancer.

saw Beck this summer in Bend Or. Good show, creative stage art. Someone from the crowd jumped up and grabbed the microphone from his hand and said " Beck's a Scientologist!!" then jumped back in the crowd.

That's what he said. Hardly means it's true. Beck seems to write with more focus on the meter and rhyme than on the meaning of the words. Y'all can shout me down if ya disagree.
Yeah but when I'm at work I mostly just ignore the words and hear the music so this works well for me. -N
Never quite got Beck. Not a great voice, no haunting melodies, perhaps a bit too clever for his own good. Whatever, it just doesn't work for me

My daughter took the stickers from the album and decorated the walls of her room with them. That was not planned but a nice twist on four-year-old art.
Including the copulating beasts of burden?
were they self-adhesive or did you have to lick them?
This ones growing on me....I usually dig Becks new stuff on the first listen, this album is differnt for me for some reason, but I'm glad to say this one is definitly more likeable now then when I first listened!!
Whistling, discordant guitar and sqeaky electronic sounds. Pure Beck genius.

Ooooo new Beck. Oh, Santa?
His dog comes from Modesto? Did I hear that right?
This has become one of my favorite tracks on the disc. Quite a nice tune, even with the buzzing detuned-sounding guitar.
i would call this album a guero/mutations hybrid with a twist of midnite vultures & a dash of sea change. how's that for a recipe for 'awesome?'
Sounds like the Kinks, kinda. In a good way. Even Becks voice has a Davies sound here.
No complaints.
New School Beck that mirrors One Foot In The Grave / StereoPathetic Soulmanure Beck.
Amazon delivered it today. I'm still working on the whole sticker thing. Otherwise, I like it.

Good stuff.
