Happy to report that, six years later, Sarah has largely worked her way to the end of the alimentary canal known as American politics.

See ya, hun.

But I thought all Canadian males between the ages of 18-34 had to play at least one line shift in the NHL or something bad happened to their citizenship or voting rights or beer ration or something...

Who are you trying to kid? You don't even like yourself.

one of the worst songs i ever heard on RP. that´s what the "sucko-barfo"-term has been invented for. thanks for giving me the chance to use the 1-point-vote  - it´s seldom enough!

"Chemical City", eh? Has Sam Roberts been reading Karin Boye? {#Eh}

Good Canadian boy. Thanks, Bill.
Check out his earlier material, folks. Sam's a down-to-earth kid. Hard-working, bar-to-bar, nothing fancy. Did you see him at the intermission of the outdoor hockey game in Buffalo Jan. 1?
Hard Road, Where Have All the Good People Gone?, Brother Down. Worth the listen.

His new CD is also very good. And yes, he and his band put on a great live show.

I love this song!

Update to the story.... The CD eventually DID come back from the manufacturer and I did return it to the library. They gave me $19.99 back for the disc/case itself, but kept the $6 processing fee. I suppose that is fair- being that I run to the library for free books/DVD/CDs at least 1-2x week! The lesson is- never put CDs with those metal anti-theft bars into your car's indash player! You might not see it again. Props to the folks at (click here)for at least giving most of my money back!
At least you didn't have to deal with Mr. Bookman!
Uhh - yeah -- about the cover art -- uhh -- my girlfriend is a painter -- and she paints these fantasy paintings and -- uhh -- well -- they're really good...
I saw that painting in Spencer's in the black light section in 1980.

This CD will always to known to me as the one that got away. I picked it up at the local public library (after hearing this song on RP) and it got stuck in my car's CD player. Turns out the auto dealer had to install a brand new stereo and send the old one back to the manufacturer...with the Sam Roberts CD still included. They say I won't have it back for 12 weeks MINIMUM. Late fee, processing fee, replacement fee, and a lifetime of dirty looks from the library folks all because of this CD!!

Something tells me the CD might _not_ come back. Our library is pretty understanding, maybe you can plead your case as mentioned below.
nice cd cover

Nice song, very much reminds me of The Nits, who would fit nicely on RP. Never heard them here though...
Why does the chorus make me think of Sir Paul McCartney and Wings?

Or a Journey/Kansas/Asia album cover circa 1978; Ack! Catchy tune, though.
Saw Sam and his band at ACL last year... one of the best acts to come out of Canada in the last few years. If they come to a city near you... don't miss them, they put on one heck of a good show!

yeah, no idea where you heard that. Sam Roberts band is one of the best live acts I've seen in some time (I've seen over 75 shows this year) Up there with My Morning Jacket or even Wolfmother, amazing energy, great interaction with the crowd, good show all around

This isn't even the best song on the CD. The entire thing is amazing and such a far cry from all the drivel you'd normally hear on the radio. I'm so happy for them that they are starting to feel some success outside of Canada (where we love them of course!), they so deserve it.
We do love them!! I hadn't heard them played on Radio Paradise yet and was planning on sending an email to Bill suggesting he do so. I hope Radio Paradise can be a part of bringing them success south of the 49th.
I was certain this was one of those Finn boys, til I looked at the playlist. He sounds good. Not sure about that album cover though (yikes)
This song gets a lot of air time, it's ok

I saw these guys live last night @ The Variety Playhouse here in Atlanta. They were the opening band for Ben Kweller. Not only did they put on an amazing show, but they also signed autographs and posed for pictures. Really cool dudes from Canada. Ben Kweller was amazing too. Thanks to RP for turning me on to Sam Roberts.

Just caught Sam Roberts at the Montreal Jazz Fest (huh?) at a huge outdoor multi-performer tribute to Paul Simon (huh? #2). It was a solid show and Sam Roberts rockin' versions of Late in the Evening and You Can Call Me Al were surprising show stoppers. Really hot performances with an amazing jazz band and full gospel choir. For all you Canucks out there (and Americans close to the border), the concert will be on CBC later this year. Some other really good nuggets to note: Holly Cole, Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo, Elvis Costello and Alain Toussaint, young jazzy wild performance by Brit Jamie Cullum was also very hot.
Excellent tune. Reminds me of the '70's, even though I wasn't born yet :)
