Every morning I've got a new chance
I want to land the part of Eddie in The Stranger Dance
'Cause he gets to sword fight the duke
He kidnaps the queen
And you think the score's set but you can't truly see
Til you know the two sides of Monsieur Valentine
Til you know the two sides of Monsieur Valentine

Every morning I pull on them pants
Mmm but I don't get out so much since I acquired St. Vitus dance
I turn the news on a while
I practice my scene
You think things are straight but they're not what they seem
Til you know the two sides of Monsieur Valentine
In his coat and his boots and his blackheart machine
No, no one knows the two sides of Monsieur Valentine

Every morning I've got a new chance
I want to play the part of Eddie in The Stranger Dance
He makes love to the duke
He sword fights the queen
He steals the whole show in his last dying scene
No one sees the two sides of Monsieur Valentine
No, no one sees the two sides of Monsieur Valentine
No one sees the two sides of Monsieur Valentine
Mmm hmmm mmm hmm hmm hmm

me too. every time i hear them i wonder why i'm not more obsessed with them. so good.

the vocalist's voice reminds me of someone, but i can't think who. oh well, doesn't matter. so good.

Even now, 16 years later, the excitement of hearing this can still generate a thrill! AND, after having seen them, humble as can be, in intimidating Daikanyama, Tokyo, jam our socks right out of our shoes, I can scarcely contain my admiration for them.  All my friends who at first were skeptical are firm fans. They are truly an American Treasure Band! I wish them the best and can't wait for their next!

Me too! Well, actually it was a year ago when they opened for the Shins. I was surprised by Spoon's energy. I expected something much more shoe-gaze-y. Definitely one of the best shows I've been to in the last 5 years.

i use elbow to spoon some cake
Perfect for this moment!

Being a guy I like this version! Love her voice
Monsieur Valentine is jack of all trades.
So glad I got to see this tight, innovative group jam their amazing, dynamic sound at Unit One in Daikanyama in Tokyo! Brilliant band!
great album. haven't listened in a while. time to dust it off.

Thanks Bill for some SPOON as I'm awaiting the new Album. If there is a better more talented contemporary band -please extend... My Morning Jacket is up there....
These guys are amazingly talented and can they make a catchy tune that never grows old... "Everyday we get a new chance" Monsieur Valentine...
Hey Britt, it's about time for a new record;)

Just in time for Monsieur Valentine's Day.

Quelle concidence. :)

unbearable.
I really dig how on THIS ONE he uses his quirky Bowie-Lennon-Lynne vocal stylings to great effect (and love how he uses his screaming twanging Gretsch so well on others...) and wow I can never forget the time this thing first flopped out of my speakers onto my desk and demanded its rightful attention and worship, and I gotta thank sweet RP for that!
The only time sounding like one has a head cold has ever worked... Love the vocals so hard.
Good something woke me up from the Cracker-caused coma.
ROCKS!

...perfectly!
Outstanding!
Love it
I really dig this album and Ga Ga Ga.  Not such a fan of the new one, but maybe it'll grow on me.
Delicious. Mysterious. Sexy.
Ah, BillG moves seamlessly from a song called "Loser" to a singer called "Loser."  Damn, I love this station.

Creative Breakthrough

A very fun groovy Spoon song. I dig these guys.

I disagree. I saw them at the Austin City Limits Festival in '04 and they were amazing. They're not a group to dance around, but their songs were tight.

I saw Spoon warm-up the Shins in Columbia, Md on Monday the 22nd. They were terrible. I like Spoon, but their show, especially the sound, was horrible IMO.

The Shins were very good, though.

Wow, exact opposite to all of my Spoon experiences. They've been spectacular every time I've seen them.
from another show attendee (with possibly better seats), "terrible"/"horrible" is bit a harsh. good show (admitted some sound issues) - great bands. both bands new album material played well live. see this double bill if you can. period. MidLyfe wrote:

Excellent segue from Jagged!
agreed!
I must say, that's a cool tune...
Gimme fiction, too. This sounds groovy
I really like the opening of this one.
Two spoons up
Excellent segue from Jagged!
In general I like Kill the Moonlight and Girls Can Tell a lot better than Gimme Fiction, but this track is really great, probably the best on the album. 9/10 for me

Another album for which I've changed the track order. As follows, with the original track order number pareth'd: side 1 ------------- 1 - Merchants Of Soul (11) 2 - Sister Jack (6) 3 - My Mathematical Mind (4) 4 - Two Sides/Monsieur Valentine (2) 5 - I Summon You (7) 6 - The Delicate Place (5) side 2 ------------ 1 - I Turn My Camera On (3) 2 - The Beast And Dragon, Adored (1) 3 - The Infinite Pet (8) 4 - Was It You? (9) 5 - They Never Got You (10)
A co-worker brought this in one day last year, I liked it instantly. Then I foolishly waited almost a year to get it myself. Then gimme fiction just kinda exploded on my consciousness. I had heard a little spoon before this disc, and liked it, but g.f. is the i feel unquestioned masterpiece of a band hitting the hell out of their stride. One of the best best best most challenging casually rockin'est albums in many a year. Every track on it would be, for me, 9 or above (okay, i quibble, sisterjack maybe 8). This one, 10. Hmmm, only 7 spoon tracks on the list. Oh, that'll change. Too good.
This has been a slow burner for me. Which is a good thing!! Brought the album now - very happy with the result.

It's the nature of radio. Why? It appears to be the nature of humans listening to radio or they wouldn't program it like that. I had hope for RP when I first tuned in, but alas, they have chosen not to open up the catalogs of artists, even of well known and loved artists such as Pink Floyd. Someday...
Hmm...I flair some bias in your argument. First you assume that everything the Floyds ever made belongs on the playlist. Then you totally ignore the financial aspect of the thing. Finally, I beleive that 47 tracks of the Pink Floyds on the playlist is more than honorable. I dare you to find a station that manages to rotate that many songs from a same artist and still be eclectic.
I live where these guys live! OMG!!!!
I love his voice ....

I just heard a pink floyd song on RP. WRONG!

One of the top 2-3 CD's that came out last year. Nary a bad song on it.
This song makes me feel bad for all other music.
I just love this band! Pitchfork fest this summer in chicago!
