I thought it sounded vaguely familiar ... scrolling down through the comments to the "Tiny Dancer" comment. I like the tune though, and here in Toronto this guy gets next to no airplay. Every once in a while RP plays something that is like nails on a blackboard to me --- lately it's been Nitin Sawhney --- but when I compare it to any other station out there, RP hits way more often than it misses.
I prayed this day would never come. This is meant as a joke right?

I've never protested a song on RP if I didn't like it b/c the songs that i don't like are usually at least salvageable through their quirkiness. I've gotta agree with you on this one though. This guy is so saccharine. I saw him play "Beautiful" on the Grammy's. It was the auditory equivalent of eating sugar-coated cardboard.
I think that other song (you're beautiful) sounds like Rod Stewart, whose voice I simply cannot stand. This doesn't sound like RS, but I still don't like it.
Those three men have a semi by the sea?? lol A 2...
Come on people... A few "mainstream" songs make it on RP and you guys nearly have a stroke. Lighten up and don't take yourselves so seriously. I'm the biggest music snob in the world, but man... you guys are silly. I HATE this dude in general. This song is fairly decent and IMO, fits with what RP is supposed to be. The prejudgement going on here is amazing.

james CUNT. you mean james CUNT.
James Blunt banned! -- The AOR warbler gets a mighty shock. A UK radio station has banned MOR singer James Blunt's songs from its airwaves, just days after the star said at an awards ceremony that anyone who does not like his music should simply switch off. Blunt's 2005 worlwide chart-topper 'You're Beautiful' won two Ivor Novello awards - International Hit Of The Year and Most Performed Work - at the London event last week (May 25). After claiming his prizes at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Blunt said: "To all those bastards who don't like my music - you're all adults, you can switch your radio off." Now Essex FM have announced that from today (May 29) it would no longer play Blunt's hits 'You're Beautiful' and 'Goodbye My Lover'. The station said it was responding to recent audience research, which revealed that listeners had tired of the star's sound. Chris Cotton, the programme controller, told The Independent: "Quite often there will be popular artists that people are starting to grow weary of. This time, the number of specific comments about James Blunt were more than we have ever seen for one particular artist." He added: "It was quite staggering. People said, 'Can you get rid of him?' 'Can you ban him?' Even people who say they are fans of his songs go on to express that they're sick of it." Cotton added that when the station announced its intention to ban the singer, the switchboard was inundated. He insisted: "The amount of feedback is enormous, so it looks like there'll be a pretty long-term ban. "While his songs have been very popular, there is a tremendous amount of industry pressure to play certain artists frequently. Often this can be out of step with the audience's tastes, which results in songs being overplayed. We're happy to stand up to this pressure. We encourage other radio stations to take the same step." Wow. The hate is tangible. I don't know. It's not a bad song. So it's a Top 40 hit. Big deal. So's that Gorillaz song.
I am honestly perplexed by this guys popularity. I have nothing against popular music and can understand why a lot of pop bands do very well, but this guy?? What's he got that a million other guys don't have. An expensive management and marketing team I suspect. At least we know he writes his own songs, no-one paid to do it would come up with such pathetic lyrics.
This sucks big time
... May's just around the corner and time for my monthly subscription and seing as RP is playing James Blunt I'll double the usual, thank you Bill and Rebecca for your unbiased and varied choices over all genres, this beautiful song eases a ten no worries mate! ...
Oh God, James Blunt now even on RP?? Noooooooo. Will the silly hype around him never stop?

Even Prince Harry has demanded to be sent to Iraq or he'll quit the army! (click here)

Just got back from being in London for 6 months...can't believe I have to go through Blunt mania again!! He's a cutie though. Trivia: his real last name is Blount, and he changed it because he thought it sounded too posh.
Count yourself lucky - at least you were able to get away from it. People are saying that he is the reason emmigration from the UK in on the increase!!! It is even rumoured that he is also the reason British troops won't come back from Iraq (unless he trades places...)

Almost every comment i read on here talks about how they hate Blunt's hit, Beautiful, but other then being overplayer... the song isn't bad. If James Blunt was never famous, and we heard that song on here, everyone would like it. So im stickin up here, and saying his hit song was good. This song... wiseman, is much better though.
No kidding. Last year before the Blunt invasion I remember hearing "You're Beautiful" several times on XM's Hear Music and thinking it was a great song. I didn't even know it was being played on the pop stations until seeing him on SNL and Opera. Now that he has been plastered everywhere, he's been diluted quite a bit. But if he was a nobody indie artist, you cynics would have rated this at least a seven. Listening to the rest of the album, his nasally voice gets old to me, but I think he deserves some credit, even if he becomes a one-hit wonder thanks to over-marketing.

Well - at least it's not "You're beautiful". Not without talent but this guy has been sooooo over-hyped here in the UK.
Wow. Lots of hate here. I don't know... This song has just the swinging, easy-going quality I was in the mood for. And I didn't mind the vocals at all.
vocals sound a bit too backstreet boys-ish
Ah, yes James Blunt... winner of the Chas 'n' Dave award for the best new rhyming slang of 2005... maybe.

What an awful voice this guy's got. It would work well on a local pop station, probably. But here on RP??
Couldn't agree more! Please leave this stuff to the TOP40 radio stations around the globe and get back to the obscure and eclectic!
He's just so 100 % uninterresting...
This song would be a lot better if there wern't a series of beeps that sounds like my phone battery is dead.
In America, this guy has "ONE HIT WONDER" written all over him. This is just....ok, nothin' to write home to mamma about.
Yeah he sounds like someone kicked his voicebox when he was 14 years old. JennyAnyDots wrote:
I'm not wild about his voice either, I find it rather banal and quite nasal. His lyrics are generally quite meaningful though.. it is a pity they aren't better emphasized by his singing. He certainly has high rotation on the pop stations in Sydney though. Seems someone loves his voice!
Don't let the overplayed Beautiful song take away from what is a good song.

Chorus sounds like "Tiny Dancer".
Are we there yet? This song was somewhat novel for the first 45 seconds, but... wow.
My god, I thought this was Maroon 5

Gotta ask yourself the question: why is this crud on RP?
Why so many people like this guy's music? His voice is so terrible, his tunes are no great shakes!

I think's it's on purpose. There's a song about Jim Morrison on this album ("So Long Jimmy").

Uh... this isn't "Beautiful", it's a different song. If you don't like this track, say so. I don't know what difference it makes that you're tired of some other song.

I gotta 'ass' myself the question...why am I falling asleep?

I must admit, I am surprised. I like this one. His big radio hit "beautiful" makes me cringe (although my wife loves it). Something for everyone, I guess. Not necessarily a bad thing for a CD. There are few complete albums that everyone in my household agrees on.
I'm not saying I don't like this song, but this is just too distractingly similar to Tiny Dancer for me to be able to really it. I keep singing the wrong words in my head and wish I was listening to Elton. Now From what I've heard some of the other tracks on this album are really cool.
Rhymes with... ...and for very good reason. The man's an abomination.
"Hold me closer, tiny danceeeeer!"
Blunt. Heheh.
I enjoy the Beautiful song, and I think one is very nice. Not sure yet about purchasing the CD, but hearing this tune moves it up a bit higher on the list!
I love this guy, so do my mother & my 12 year old daughter. This song is my favorite on the album.
yeah I liked him for a minute...got old fast "your beautiful" your nails on a chalk board
Since it is the first I have heard this song or the artist for that matter, I will withold an judgement for the time being. I will say it 'caught my ear'... --------------------------------------------------- She said to me, Go steady on me, wanna tell me what the wisemen said when they, Came down from heaven, smoked 9 'til 7, all the shit that they could find, but they, Couldn't escape from you, couldn't be free of you, Now they know there's no way out, and they're Really sorry now for what they've done, they were three wise men, just tryin' to have some fun. Look who's alone now, it's not me, it's not me, Those three wise men they've got a semi by the sea. Gotta ask yourself the question 'where are you now?' Gotta ask yourself the question, 'where are you now?' Really sorry now, they want to know, they got caught up in your talent show, With you panikety little bastards and your fancy dress, Who just judge each other, and try to impress, But they, couldn't escape from you, couldn't be free of you, Now they know there's no way out, And they're really sorry now for what they've done, they were three wise men, just trying to have some fun Look who's alone now, it's not me, it's not me, Those three wise men, they've got a semi by the sea, Gotta ask yourself the question, 'where are you now?', Gotta ask yourself the question, 'where are you now?' My family and i really dig this guys debut album. He is a great singer songwriter.
Never heard him, or of him. I like this - got a little Elton John thing going on there, I like the groovy keyboards.
awful
poor thing.
Argh, it's the "You are BEEEUUUUTIFUL" guy. Like this song much better.
Is there no escaping James Blunt on any radio station?
0.4'Meh' + 0.6'Blah' = Whatever
no thanks
