You win
It's your show, now
So what's it gonna be
'Cause people
Will tune in
How many train wrecks do we need to see?
Before we lose touch of
We thought this was low
Well, it's bad, getting worse, so

Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

They got this and that
With a rattle a tat
Testing one two,
Man, what you gonna do?
Bad news, misused,
Got too much to lose
Gimme some truth
Now whose side are we on?
Whatever you say
Turn on the boob tube
I'm in the mood to obey
So lead me astray
And by the way, now

Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

Sitting 'round feeling far away
So far away but I can feel the debris
Can you feel it?
You interrupt me from a friendly conversation
To tell me how great it's all gonna be
You might notice some hesitation
'Cause it's important to you, it's not important to me
But way down by the edge of your reasons
It's beginning to show
And all I really wanna know is...

Where'd all the good people go?
I've been changing channels
I don't see them on the TV shows
Where'd all the good people go?
We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

Where'd all the good people go?

They got this and that
With a rattle a tat
Testing one, two
Now what you gonna do?
Bad news, misused, give me some truth
You got too much to lose
(Where'd all the good people go?)
Whose side are we on today, anyway?
OK, whatever you say.
Wrong and resolute but in the mood to obey
Station to station desensitizing the nation
(Where'd all the good people go?)
Going, going, gone.

Long Live RP and 'My Favorites'!!
there's no good ppl on this planet. not even aliens

Jack Johnson has completely disappeared from the RP- programming grid.
Option 1 - by bad luck, Johnson for the RP has already "gone out of style" (out of fashion) and so Jack Johnson can go to the warehouse shelf, maybe to give place to some fashions instantaneous and ephemeral that here pass.
Option 2 - Jack Johnson forgot to send share...

And here I am just another struggling schmuck.

Yeah, I'm jealous, so what.

This sounds a lot like the song accompanying the Lacoste perfume TV ad. Twee is the word that comes to mind as soon as yer man's voice cuts in.

I don't disagree with your point about pop, but you're conflating three different genres.  Johnson writes surf music, pure and simple.  He originally wrote it as background music for surf movies.  I can hear elements of that in common with DMB and Ben Harper, but I wouldn't lump them all together.  (I personally like Johnson and can't stand Harper.)  Having said that, I agree that pop radio can ruin almost any genre of music.

If he used more than 4 notes and 2 note progressions, this might be interesting, but sadly it's Ho-Hum all the way. For that matter, this has been a pretty ho-hum morning with the last half-dozen or so numbers being snoresville. Or maybe I'm just in a grump after returning to wage-slavery after the holidays :(

Well, just yesterday I was bragging to a friend about how much better RP is than our local "progressive rock" station. "That station plays stuff like Jack Johnson and David Gray. That's progressive "lite" rock! RP is way better!"

Oops. Wasn't that a David Gray song I heard about 1/2 hour ago? Now Jack Johnson. That guy gets on my last nerve. He received an overdose of cool somewhere, and it's not wearing off. You better play something I really, really like soon, or I'll... I'll... turn the volume down slightly. That's right, you heard me! Slightly!!!!
This makes 3 for 3. Pure bubble gum. I'm getting mental cavities. I'll check back later...

Yep really sounds like the same music maybe different words. The whole thing just makes me not want to listen to find out if they are different words! Someone said below that he's makin' music inspired by the nature around him! Poor eyesight or he's in a deep gully of gray rocks!

:P

I usually make more of an effort to make positive comments ... but I need to register my irritation with his music ... i can understand why RP includes him on their play list ... it is surprising to me how something so bland can be so grating ... and i guess it is because his music is everywhere

In Between Dreams an' Good People is a man with his guitar bein' inspired by the nature around him Love this! The idyll!
This is good listening music. His effortless and very proficient chord changes, well they are icing on the cake of his voice. Yes, some here have said this is "bland music". I don't see it that way. A 2007 Cat Stevens? Well, what's bad about that? You complainers have expectations which are both irrational and difficult to justify. If any of you can carry a tune and play a guitar, well then maybe you have some ammunition. This track is simplistic, it is clearly sung, it is minimalist in melody, yet it is enjoyable. Why? Find you own reasons or not but don't make complaints about a style of music rarely heard in the past few years. Spend more time listening and understanding than make sarcastic comments. By the way, when a monkey climbs a tree in a hurry the first thing you see is his big red ass. Think about it.

So it's one thing to work for the tv and film industry but if you have a record contract . . oh never mind.
JJ's guitar is fun but I prefer the Curious George efforts. This isnt my favorite track. When I hear a song complaining things are just so wrong today or people suck now I think, "um yeah, times were never all good. People certainly are not 100% good, there's always imperfection and there's always conflict. If it's your heyday its someone else's rainy day" The only thing different about modern times is the sensationalist media coverage of it all. The older I get the more I realize what a concious effort it is to try to stay upbeat.

The way he sings "Where'd all the good people go?" reminds me of the scene in Blazing Saddles where Bart (Cleavon Little) shouts to the KKK...well, you do the research if you don't know. For all the vitriol spewed on Mr. Johnson's music, it's awfully inert. Boring even. Just decent. Maybe.

Just an observation... I've looked at the Jack Johnson posts for a couple of his songs, and there seems to be more contention over him at this point than any other artist played on RP. In case you're wondering, I gave this song a 6 (I don't have a strong opinion either way).

Thanks for the positivity! We need more folks that can take this music for what it is; fun and easy, music that makes you feel like the ocean is right outside even when you are landlocked like hell...
I have finally found an artist that RP plays entirely too much for my taste. I know some people like this schlock, but I have to agree with the poster below - it's Chinese water torture.

Ah Jack Johnson...let the snarkiness begin -- the sometimes amusing downside of RP...poor guy!
I adore JJ but he always has 1 awful, preachy song on each album; this is that song. (see also: The News)

Chill out folks! I can work brainlessly to this music, it doesn't offend my coworkers and I can sing along on the car radio because the song demands so little. I'm just jealous that my life is so complicated and will never have the sense of leisure that JJ's songs evoke.

so funny to read the negative comments on JJ. He is such a mellow cool guy, his wife was a HS teacher at my daughters school and just so sweet. Always love to hear him.
Boring.
What a miserable song. I think hearing it just ruined my morning.
You know what is an odd phenomenon? How popular Jack Johnson is in the U.K. I would not have thought he would have "translated" across the pond...but I guess he is filling a void in the scene there.
Sometimes I need this kind of music to grade by - not arresting enough that I get sidetracked, but not vapid enough to make me switch back to my own music library.
Sure he got up on stage in the first place but I don't feel he ever envisioned himself as a rock star. Too me, he was probably just a guy that enjoyed playing music for his friends and people like them. Fame was an after thought. After all, he comes from a pretty vibed-out, happy go lucky surf culture that prefers to have a rosier view of the world. His music reflects that culture. In its simplicity you can find the genius of his music. Also, for those of us who live abroad and never get the chance to hear the radio we welcome everything that RP has to offer.
I like "Flake", but I'm so over Jack Johnson at this point...
It gets a solid 3 from me. I wish I was hip enough to 'get' him...
After reading some of the dreck people wrote about Jack, where indeed did all the good people go?

Funny. You brag abount being a musician, and then list your "credits"--- film. television. video games. As if that gives you a special dose of credibility.... Now, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with music written for those channels, but if you're going to be one of those "musician's musician", music snob, purist types, well then MUSIC FOR VIDEO GAMES won't exactly help your case... (oooh, this guy MUST know what he's talking about... he wrote music for a VIDEO GAME!) The musicians you listed aren't exactly my favorite... but there is no denying that John Mayer CAN play guitar well (taste or style is open to opinion), no denying that Dave Matthew's Band'd drummer is world-class, and no denying that the production and much of the musician-ship on Jack Johnson's record is of a reasonably high level. If you're really a musician, I would think you would have some ability to discuss elements of why you dislike certain music. Bring it on!
