Fake Tales of San Francisco echo through the room
More point to a wedding disco without a bride or groom
There's a super cool band, yeah, with their trilbys and their glasses of white wine
And all the weekend rockstars in the toilets practicing their lines

I don't want to hear you (kick me out, kick me out)
I don't want to hear you, no (kick me out, kick me out)
I don't want to hear you (kick me out, kick me out)
I don't want to hear you, I don't want to hear you

Fake Tales of San Francisco echo through the air
And there's a few bored faces in the back, all wishing they weren't there
And as the microphone squeaks a young girl's telephone beeps
Yeah, she's dashing for the exit, oh, she's running to the streets outside
"Oh, you've saved me", she screams down the line
"The band were fucking wank and I'm not having a nice time"

I don't want to hear you (kick me out, kick me out)
I don't want to hear you, no (kick me out, kick me out)
Yeah, but his bird said it's amazing, though, so all that's left
Is the proof that love's not only blind but deaf

He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar
I don't quite know the distance but I'm sure that's far
Yeah, I'm sure it's pretty far

And, yeah, I'd love to tell you all my problem
You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham
So get off the bandwagon and put down the handbook
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Get off the bandwagon, put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon, put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon, put down the handbook
Get off the bandwagon, put down the handbook, yeah

The fact that the Artic Monkeys aren't wildly popular in the United States is proof that good music taste is dead in this country...
these Monkeys are eating  spiders from mars
Love it - love the energy.
If the wiki about these guys is to be believed, the lead singer/guitarist didn't start playing the guitar until 2001 and by 2006 they were famous and had a record out.  I hate that kid.
Sweet tune-awesome crescendo two-thirds in....
nicely anarchic :o)
Simply awful!!!
!
There is really no such a thing as an Artic monkey. They are fake. So are their tails.
 Not sure about the band.

Like jewellry, this at first listen seems too big, gaudy and tawdry to be real. After a few more listens, it's clearly too big, gaudy and tawdry to be fake.
Good Sheffield boys, solid debut album and they keep on rockin'
this is pretty hot
god i hate this gawd awful band  {#Puke}
6.4 is really low. This is a great song! But not a new band :P They are pretty old now.

No way - Bowie is from the south of the UK, and the AM's are from the north.  The accents are TOTALLY different and very distinctive!

Possibly the most talented new young band from ENGLAND!

Sounds soooo different from US-bands - doesn't it?

Fresher, down-to-earth, real and....yes, just better!
WRONG...?

Not that new - they have been around for a few years now...
Ah I like this. It's edgier and harder than yer garden variety RP fare. It's not that I'm all about harder/edgier, but every now and then it's good when Bill cranks up the juice to "11.". The only problem is that this strikes me as a bit poppish in that "alternative rock" way.

Yes. great band... regardless of country of origin...

brilliant lyric!

Love this song and many of the songs i've heard by these guys. Thanks for the variety RP!
Just think this is junky. It's not the high caliber I expect from RP playlists. I'll take it gracefully though..and enjoy that I've never heard this before. Still better than most crap on regular radio.
FANTASTIC!!!!!

BEST NEW BAND!
Why USA has nothing comparable?
I f—-ing KNEW this playlist was recycled.. regardless it's a good one.
Enjoying the theme here in SF :)

Parents and Children see the world differently... or maybe not
SF is the American "Moveable Feast"... different bits of flavor wherever and when ever you go

Living there is a "Mortageable Feast"... can' eat the house but it eats you...

Finally we have stopped getting stuff from the rubbish 3rd album.  Every track on the first 2 albums is better than the best track on the 3rd album.  Oh and by the way in divergence to the general feeling here, those first 2 albums are in my opinion unique and brilliant.  And though i also love Bowie i really don't get the link people are claiming.

Had this seriously not been played on RP since 2006? This is a great song. I really wish RP would dig a little into the back catalog more often.

ZZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZZZ ZZZZZZ ZZZZZ See ya.
reminds me of supergrass.. no wait.. reminds me of white stripes.... hmm. :)
I heard the whole album..... nothing that sond in your head after....like a bad fast sex rendez-vous....

What do you think, they will be dating members of the Royal Family before you know it.

There's something good here--but I'm trying to figure out if it's enough........
Fun, but nothing original or inspired.

Homage or rip off? I am trying to figure that out.
that initial guitar riff sounded a bit like punk-era Joe Jackson, too. Glad to hear some bands doing straight-ahead punk/rock these days. Sarah :guitarist:

No. Best Arctic Monkey is a non-singer one.

Noticed the same thing, biggest difference (aside from it sounding "rougher") is the lyric which starts " 'Oh you saved me!' She screamed down the line" and was changed from "the band's a f***ing wanker, I'm not having a nice time" to "the band weren't very good"...
I didn't even notice the lyric change. That shows how much attention I pay to the lyrics when listening to the radio. The version on the album is one of my favorite songs right now. They got a great groove going on that one. I can only assume the final version would be doing a little better than this in the song ratings if RP was playing it.

Now that I've been living with the album for a while, it seems like this is a different mix. Is this the version that was floating around the 'net building up the pre-release buzz? It has the somewhat raw quality of a demo, but the album version is more polished, yet still gloriously groovy.
I'm thinking I shouldn't like this...but I'm slowly being sucked in.....help !!!

again... :bananajam: :bananajumprope: :bananasplit: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana_2: :bananapiano: Rock ON RP - YEEAAHH !
 Some of these wannabe bands that are (seemingly) everywhere of late really kick. This ain't one of 'em.

Medieval Philosophy class..That's a course one can use in the real world!

Have you ever said "glottal stop" while using a glottal stop?

...sorry, tammaye, I agree that Jack White is better than the Edge. He plays the parts of 2 guitarists and a bassist, which is extremely impressive whether you like the music or not...

I don't get the impression that The Artic Monkeys intend their music & image to be taken entirely seriously... Besides, I can't help myself from pointing out that I find guitar riffs from "the edge" to be dull and pedantic. Just my 2 cents worth - don't get too worked up about it.

I'm really growing to like this song. Good stuff.
Too much of a Bowie rip-off. Decent song though.
Listing on Amazon According to this, an "eponymous" disk is due out on February 2...
thanks for the introduction. love the vibe of this band. can't walk normal when this sucka is cranked on the system. :drummer:

Definitely some Bowie qualities in there. I thought it was him at first - maybe that guitar sound. And the vocals.

Can we get them to do something about those damn cute penguins? Oh, I guess they'd have to be antarctic monkeys.

I hear they're going, er, bananas for these guys in the UK. Sounds cool enough to me.
This is going to take a long time for me to warm to. Quite annoying on first hearing...a 3.
This is as obnoxious as h3ll.

i like this!
That's the best band name I've heard in years. My favorite odd band name of all time has to be a band advertized once in Austin, the Sawdust Boogers. Sheesh!
I dunno, I first thought of "White Stripes Wanna Be's" White Stripes suck so these guys are starting off on the wrong footing.
Dig it. From their web site: "But the reasons it started are as pure today as they ever were and that's gotta be a damm sight better then formed a band, drank some JD, took some drugs, had some birds or whatevers cool these days. All thats left to say is, welcome to anyone and long live it all say..."
