I thought Flaming Lips, too, when I first heard this (just now), which would have been great. But I'm also not feeling that howling at the end, kind of killed it for me. In all, not awful, but not excellent.
Thought this was a new Ween song at first....
Saw them live last Friday at the Riv in Chicago. Amazing show.
I was digging this until singer dude was apparently being skinned alive during the fading moments of an otherwise likeable tune...did anyone call 911?
this is schweet. very poppy. very light hearted. got my head swaying back and forth and bouncing all around.
At the risk of sounding redundant, I just don't get the hype and appeal that I've encountered about this band. Everything I've heard is less than mediocre and sometimes just plain awful. I've heard actual 'garage bands' down my street compose better songs.

I wish I could disagree. I'm trying to keep an open mind with these guys, but good god, this is awful.
I had never heard My Morning Jacket before tuning into RP. It took a while, but I've come to really enjoy this song (and "Gideon" too). Thanks Bill! This station is my primary way to get exposed to new music.

yum, yum, yum nufsaid
When I first heard this song I thought it was a new track from Neil Young... then I realized his voice was too clear. I totally love this tune. I crank it up every time I hear it.
Are you people kidding me!?!? My Morning Jacket are one of the few bright spots in the emerging alternative music scene today! Sure, Jim James has a quirky voice, but so did Neil Young, J Mascis, and Wayne Coyne. Plus, it's about the originality of the sound, not the suitability for the masses. This is evolution.
If only this were indeed wordless!

GOSH! Bill just punked Pink Floyd and REM by following them with this. What the WAILING!?!?! Sounds like Michael Jackson made a guest apperance in this. SUCKO! :puke:
Not bad at all
Wow. This hurts.

Translation courtesy of Google: This music it likes to my perico Teodoro
I love* how Google and Babelfish deal with a word they can't translate by not translating it. It's probably the most sensible approach, but it does make for some low-value non-translation translations. Like the time I wanted to know the meaning of the brand name of a can of salsa. I entered "el pato" into the translator, and out came the answer:
the pato
Okey dokey. (Since that time, the bot appears to have added the word for "duck" to its Spanish lexicon.) *do not love

Translation courtesy of Google: This music it likes to my perico Teodoro, but to my no. They sound like a group of slowed down mental that consumes drugs. Basically, it's got a good beat, but Broke won't dance to it. And say no to drugs, kids. Especially if you sound mentally challenged. I've now done my good deed for the day.
Excellent! regards from Bariloche, Patagonia Argentina. :notworthy:
This is cool. Lots of soul.
Tired, tired, tired of this song. Must it be played EVERY DAY?
love it, love it, love it. you doubters need to see this band live, and this song live. you'll change your tune!
A bit left field for MMJ, but I think it's cool. Does have somewhat of a Flaming Lips vibe working.

Yeah, especially considering most of its ratings are 7s and 8s. Maybe the people that don't like this tune just tend to *really hate* it?

My 15 yr old loves them. We normally have similar musical tastes but I don't get this one.
Toss IT!!!!
:puke: :puke:  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
A sadly misnamed tune. If only it were wordless (It certainly is tuneless)

Thirded? I could not agree more. Time to delve into the RP archives.
This, like everything else of theirs I have heard on here, is GREAT. I gotta actually listen to one of their albums I think.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now that's just silly.
Maybe it's just the timing, but while enjoing an amazing sunset at the end of a fantastic day, this gets a bump up, 8

The album cover reminds me of Radiohead's "knives out" video.
Ow! Painful.
hey, there's a live show recorded and available to stream on npr (click here)
But, dig the harmonies!

We see Zee (and Moose A. Moose) every day at our house. Luckily, I don't have to hear this song every day.
When this song comes on, I'm afraid I have to turn off Radio Paradise.
I'd like this one a lot better if it was also "Howlless Chorus".

Yeah. Considering "Zee" is the name of the little blue bird on the kids' network, Noggin:
Well, the Zee on the cover obviously gave away its phone number and address...

Agreed.
One of my favs. Keep rocking the MMJ! :cowboy:

Pretty good song, but pleeeeease add "Anytime" from this same album. I guarantee a higher rating, probably ending up somewhere in the upper 7's.

I saw the same show and agree with you. Not sure if I'm ready to purchase a CD yet, but they sure are growing on me!

What's a good CD to start with, as far as MMJ goes? The harmonies take me back to a simpler time (when vocal quality mattered). I'll take that any day over these twentysomething bands that sing off key (presumably because some jackass told them it sounded cool).
Right on man! Jim James has such an amazing voice, a true gift to my ears in this day and age of 'twentysomething bands'. You should start with either "It Still Moves" or "At Dawn". They are both great albums, I tend to like the songwriting a bit more on "..Dawn" but "...Moves" is a bit more upbeat and rockin'. You choose, they are all great really. This new album of theirs "Z" is very differnt from anything else they have put out. But, that tends to be their strength, they always put stuff out that didn't sound like what they put out before. Keeps fans on their toes and keeps this girl lovin' their style! Enjoy the tunes!

I saw that also, what a good show! I saw they are playing at Bonaroo this year.

i am familiar with these guys. they are one of those groups they love to profile on NPR, playing snippets of their songs while the narrator glows breathlessly about the relevance of the music and the feistiness of the songwriter. why is it that some people think that lazy musicianship and totally flat production makes music more "real"? sorry, but while this group is not talentless, they are not good either. if i was their manager, i would have them practice by themselves eight hours a day for a year before i'd let them record another note or play another gig.
If only this were also a vocal-less chorus!
lovin' this. groovin to this. ahh
These guys make me sleepy.
I had forgotten just how bad music can be.
That is a wordless chorus alright. And I love it.

This album is different from previous efforts, but great in its own right. I saw them in concert recently, and if you have the chance, I suggest you check them out. If you think this is good, it's even better live.

you do, i felt the same way when i first got it months ago on a leak, but after listening more and more it grows on you...although still not as good as "At Dawn"
I thought this was Simply Red for a minute...... very surprised to find out it is MMJ.
