Neither was I, at first. Now that I'm over his breathy voice -- a trait I adore in female vocalists, but not in males -- I get a sense that he's trying to bring out something deep. And if you're trying to sing about something deep, you need the instruments to stay safely and quietly behind the vocal tracks.
That, and my younger son and his wife gave me this CD for Christmas last year and it reminds me of them.

I'm hearing Dan Fogelberg with a soulful edge. Pleasant but not especially innovative chord changes. Nice overall, for at least 10 more listens.
This guy must have the best publicist south of Katy Perry. His music is everywhere, on tv shows, commercials, playing every time I drive in the car listening to xrt...he gets around. (Personally I am not that impressed.)

Funny, I was just thinking Tracy Chapman too and I do not mean it as a compliment. It's too bad because the first few times I heard him he sounded pretty good, but then with overplay here and the songs starting to sound the same I have to mute it.

Not exactly true, he said hello on both night and introduced his band both nights. I know this as i have recordings from both nights. He NEVER says anything to the audience generally,why should he? You go for the music at the end of the day and i have to disagree with you about those performances,they were both exceptional in my opinion. Again,if you had never seen him until hammersmith then i can tell you most of his concerts are done in a more country,(the band( style and i love it.
Everytime I hear Ray LaMontagne, I like him more and more! Very good sound.

Lots of comments here addressing the similarities between this song and other, more classic material. Seems that this is derivative of alot of other songs. its just ok though. 6/10 perhaps

I love this album. It grabbed me right away. Still does -- just had it in my player last week. That said, this isn't my favorite track on the album.

What a terrible voice and inane bongos and ill-fitting synth or similar--irritating guitar despite being well played--Is this supposed to be blues or blue-eyed soul? Can other songs by him be this yecchy? Hope to avoid in future.
