I'm lookin' through you where did you go
I thought I knew you what did I know
You don't look different but you have changed
I'm Iooking through you you're not the same
Your lips are moving I cannot hear
Your voice is soothing but the words aren't clear
You don't sound different I've learned the game
I'm looking through you you're not the same

Why tell me why did you not treat me right
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing over night

You're thinking of me the same old way
You were above me but not today
The only difference is you're down there
I'm looking through you and you're nowhere

Touch of The Beatles is just fine :) Music will remain the same. "I am Sam" is obligatory if you happen to like such covers. I consider it one of the best OST's ever.
Surprised at the 5 rating, thought RPeings would be down with this. For me, I think the 5 fits just fine.
OK-ish but Steve is not referring to Jane Asher I guess?
I like Steve Earl ... but I don't like this. I just don't sense the right kind of emotion from it that I get from the Beatles far superior original. And that feels wierd to say, seeing as I'm commenting on Steve Earl....
I'd rather listen to the Wallflowers version.
Godlike got a vote !?!?
I like this version...it's quirky and cool.
Love hearing Steve Earle, but there are so many other of his recordings (like stuff he WRITES) more worthy of being heard.

Most songs by the Beatles can be improved by other performers' rendering them, except for the Beatles songs whose lyrics and instrumentation are too vapid. I vaguely remember not thinking much of the Beatles (except for a few songs) and because of the widespread adoration being afraid to say so. But I'll bet I have lots of silent company. Still, there are the few excellent pieces . . . This one is OK.

True, this song is covered unnecessarily, however, this CD is very good. Would love to hear some more Earle on RP.

Though the "bluegrass cover of well-known rock standard" is joke that stops being fun after a short time, this is a pretty good selection of subject matter. The song is fairly well suited to the treatment. But I'm generally hesitant about Beatles covers -- usually, I'd rather just listen to the original.
The original is perfect. This is unneeded. SE just roughs it up in a way that's not needed.
