What about those of us that don't care whether or not Paul Simon stole African music but can't stand his take on it, but do enjoy the real thing like this song? Does that meet with your approval?
People pick on Paul Simon for "stealing" African music. Then when they really hear it, they don't like it. Go figure.

First I love African music. In particular West African music.
Second. Paul Simon gets a bad rap for Graceland. Paul is from Queens. Queens is the most diverse (city) in the world. Travel 5-10 blocks and you will find your self in another diverse ethnic immigrant community. It is ever changing and ever evolving. Even when Paul was young Queens was like this.
Paul has done what he has always done...Follow the music, follow his ear. What started in Queens with different forms of music in different neighborhoods has evolved to going all over the world following his ear.
Read or better yet listen to the book by Malcolm Gladwell where he just keeps interviewing Paul about all the influences in his career. The man is a genius and an American treasure. You don't have to love every recording, but he has a rare talent most artists can't even hold a match to.

I give it a 3 just for the album name...
Yes, I know that is why the musicianship is at a high level!
Doofus! Some of the most technically proficient and high quality music is and has been created by stoned performers!

This is great! I love palmwine music. I know it sounds repetitive, but it's such a great mellow groove to dance to ... outdoors, in a courtyard, with a live band and the mosquitos buzzing ...

Are you kidding funny man from Germany? See him live? Now that'd be a feat!
P.S. Can we have that awful green thing below from manbirdexperiment banned?

His voice definitely isn't what it used to be, since he's been dead for 14 years now (as noted below), alas... Trivia note: recorded by Grammy award-winning producer Tchad Blake

At this point, he's pretty old and his voice isn't what it used to be, but he's still pretty incredible.

I'm not really into the sound of the vocals, but the tune is nice and the guitar(?) sounds great. Very soothing.
What I need right now.
Is he singing in tongues?!
Wonderful rainy day music. Don't know why, just is.
Wow, what terrible enunciation -- I can barely make out the words.
Looks like a happy fellow...all this kind of music sounds the same to me though

He's a persistent little prick - I think I'm gonna call him George......
There is highlife I like better, but this is still a great old school tune. I'm remembering old guys shuffle dancing in open air bars in Accra ...

Are the background singers singing "I don't want a beer"?
I'd find that hard to believe.
what? that they are actually saying that or the fact that they don't want a beer?

I'm glad you dig this, too. It's a great tune.
But even stuff you don't personally dig is stuff that other people might like, and your personal dislike of 90% of what Bill plays doesn't make them "unoriginal".
And, sorry, you ain't no 'playa'. Unless by 'playa' you mean a dry, lifeless patch of land.
About time RP played more international;)

Ironic story indeed about this album
I did not know he died. Got the disc from a friend and really dig it. Explains why I never saw more from him. (really really good disc)
Waitaminute! Did physicsgenius just say he actually liked a song?
See album title. Just another reason I like so many dead men! Especially dead authors.
Voice sounds like he went non-verbal after one too many at the bar... But, the song is pretty good overall.
Christ, Bill, take your pills.

Who gives a fok why you listen to RP? Just shut up a listen, or not. If you don't like a song, turn it off. If an inteligent and eclectic song comes on, then turn it up and enjoy. Is that simple.

Great, so 90% of the time we "get" to listen to you complain. That makes it so worthwhile... Seriously, why not look elsewhere for the other 90% of the music you need? Spare us your angst and be happy yourself. Sounds like a win-win to me.
Excellent tune off PG's label. Not that I've ever heard anything bad from there...

AMG says he is from Sierra Leone, so its some language of Africa.

interesting tune, what is it? Anyone know who this guy is, where he's from, what language he sings in?

How could so many have it so wrong. Paul Simon has 'stolen' nothing. Nor have hundreds of other non-Africans musicians who bring the distinctive and often marvelous sounds from that continent to the masses -- sometimes the masses of asses as it turns out. Paul Simon has also launched the careers of hundreds of African musicians who would never have been noticed without his collaboration. Paul Simon is a champion of African music and for other music from all around the world.
