I know that I should think about giving
And think about
Helping out
And think about
Think about living
But I can't seem to rescue myself

I know that I should think about giving
And think about
Helping out
And think about
Think about living
But I can't seem to rescue myself

What about my bank account
And my holy desert shield
That keep me dry under that arms?
Flags and mental jewelry's all I know
And they keep me happy and warm inside

So I said unto this man
"Who are you and where do you come from?"
And he proceeded to tell me many, many, many, many, many, many, many things
But I said nothing at all
For the flower in the corner, by the room,
In the window, and the sun
Said it all

What about my bank account
And my holy desert shield
That keep me dry under that arms?
Flags and mental jewelry's all I know
And they keep me happy and warm inside

At least they said they would
Said they could
Mama Said they would
Do me good

I know that I should think about giving
And think about
Helping out
And think about
Think about living
But I can't seem to rescue myself

As long as they don't rhyme magenta and placenta again, I'm cool with it.

As Dana Carvey said in that audition: "The lyrics are so inane it sounds like they're making 'em up as they go along:"

Great sound, great voice...lyrics mashed-up from crazy homeless-guy conversations overhead in a McDonald's at 3am.
Memories of high school and undergrad...{#Hearteyes}
one of the great debut album first sides ever.
Voice reminds me of Simply Red in the late 80's
As long as they don't rhyme magenta and placenta again, I'm cool with it.
Choppin' brocolli!
Sweeeet!  NEVER heard this album on RP....about time!  An unbelievable album overall - a brilliant debut.  There are probably 3 other tunes from this release that would be great here also.
all I heard was, "bank account" lol! Had to go look at the lyrics lol! Weird, surreal lyrics.
I could see this song, due to his voice, growing on me.
Wow, it's been a dog's age since I've heard this song. Good 90s memories.
Never heard any Live here before.

This is the first record produced by Jerry Harrison(Talking Heads).
These guys were really young, barely out of their teens.
I was only a few years younger when I saw them perform this at Club Babyhead in Providence.
It was intense and I'll never forget it.
Where does the time go...?

What ever happened to these guys?

From Wikipedia:

On November 30, 2009, Taylor revealed that what had initially been termed a "two-year hiatus" was more likely the end of the band, due to what he felt were inappropriate actions by Ed Kowalczyk, which have resulted in a lawsuit being filed against him by the other three band members. Kowalczyk alleged that he wrote most of the music for Live and a new publishing arrangement had been accepted by all members of the group in 2006. In June 2011, Taylor revealed that he, Gracey and Dahlheimer were to reform Live without Kowalczyk, who confirmed that he would not work with the other three again. In March 2012, Shinn, formerly of the band Unified Theory, replaced Kowalczyk as lead singer. The band's first album featuring Shinn, The Turn, was released on October 28, 2014.

Unfortunate as I really liked the singer's voice. I haven't heard any of their new stuff, though; hopefully it's good!
